Happy Thanksgiving, 2019!

From my house to yours -

Wishing you health and happiness and time with those you love.  And soft gentle memories of the ones who are absent from us all.

Yesterday was a day of finishing touches. Each day the “to do” list gets shorter and shorter.  And I am learning that some things can just be put on another list to happen later.

There is a lot of truth to the saying “It is what it is.”  And I am standing back and smiling, focusing on all that has been accomplished in the past year, not on those things that have to wait a bit.

Things got hung on walls in the Hen Den!  These big barn quits and folk art paintings on wood are HEAVY and we really did need 3 people to do them.

It’s perfect in here!

What looks like “stains” are actually where pine knots have bled through to the surface, adding a touch of primitive charm.

This one I love!

Not really a barn quilt, but painted on heavy heavy wood as a folk art piece.  It’s perfect on this wall as well.  Wouldn’t it make a great applique block in wool?

Someone will be stitching here – TOMORROW!

Sign over the door in place -

“Enjoy the Little Things.”

The funny thing about this sign – The Hubster used his level to make sure the sign was straight.  But it looked terrible because the door frame is NOT straight.  So we purposely set the sign off straight to match the top of the door frame.  LOL.  It is what it is!

The two dining room carpets have been taped and joined down the center, and the rubber non-skid underlay has been trimmed so it doesn’t show underneath.

This also proved to be a challenge as like the door frame – those rugs weren’t exactly straight and square either.  I figure they will settle over time. They were also not exactly the same width!  One is 1/2’’ wider than the other, but if we adjusted that, the pattern of the circles down the center would be off.  I matched the pattern, and the edge in FRONT of the table, where most people will be walking, and left the overage to the back side of the table.  Again.  It is what it is!

The only thing left to do today will happen while I am here at the cabin cooking Thanksgiving dinner.  Dad and Dave are heading over to the inn to stack the firewood outside the side door, and to get a good supply by the stove for tomorrow’s early morning arrivals.  We’ll be there by 9am for last minute stuff, and getting the den warming up.  It’s a good thing that we are not in a cold snap this weekend.

In an actual REAL fully up and running calendar, we would not be open for retreaters this weekend.  Our last weekend of the year will be the weekend before Thanksgiving, and we will be closed through the winter and open again the first weekend in February.  This is the time on the calendar when we will be upgrading and refurbishing so we will be fresh to re-open for the next year’s group events.
