Happy Independence Day, 2016!

4thofjuly
Happy 4th of July, America!

Irene and I arrived home on the mountain to a wagging tail and a panting smiley face!

Sadie was being lead on a walk down the road when we were coming UP the road.  Such a happy girl!

She is doing so very well, though I admit I cringed a bit when I saw the length of her incision and all of those stitches holding it together.  POOR BABY!

She is not giving it much attention at all, and we settled in with unloading the van, fixing up grilled steaks, potatoes, corn on the cob and salad for dinner….finishing it all off with some quiet hand stitching and a couple episodes of Leverage on TV before calling it a VERY LONG DAY and heading off to bed.

Pose pretty for the camera, Sadie!

The rains came pretty hard last night, so I was worried that Sadie would have one of her shaking episodes, but there was no thunder with it, and she and Irene are still crashed out in the guest room as I type this.

I’m keeping this blog short in an effort to keep a promise made at the beginning of the year to take my holidays as days off.

I hope you are happy and healthy and surrounded by loved ones.  I hope you are reflecting on the freedoms that we enjoy daily.

I am reflecting on the words of Harry S. Truman:

America was not built on fear.
America was built on courage, on imagination and
unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.

To make this post just a bit quilty, I’m pulling out my favorite patriotic quilt from Scraps & Shirttails II:

GoosePuddlefinal[2]

Goose in the Puddle!

One of our students from our time in Smyrna, TN brought her rendition for show & share:

I so love this!

Long live the Red, White & Blue!

Happy 4th, everyone!

Let Freedom Ring!

Vintage hearts and gizzards quilt found in North Carolina.

It’s foggy and rainy on the mountain, and temps are cool.  Perhaps nature is preparing us for that Alaskan Cruise that happens all too quickly!

Irene and I plan to be sewing a bit today, and if the fog clears we’ll go see the waterfall and some other sights in the area.

The drawing for the Quiltmaker Bundle giveaway will happen tomorrow evening.  Did you register ON THAT POST?

Time to get breakfast going….

  8. Welcome home & happy 4th. My brother-in-law called yesterday while making a stop in Juneau on his Alaska Cruise. He & his wife are traveling with their adult children & 2 grandchildren age 3 yrs, and a 6 month old. They were warned of some rough seas but were not expecting 100ft. swells. Hope your voyage is much more smooth !! Secure the rotary cutters & batten down the machines, things could get a little 'wonky'! Enjoy your upcoming trip. Let freedom ring America !!!

  12. Of course HAPPY JULY 4th to one and all.

Have you heard of the THUNDER SHIRTS for dogs. Apparently they do work. IT is really more od a band-like thing. Great for pups who get fearful etc. That is how it got it's name, thunder.

Welcome home, hug Sadie on the hour please...
