They've been a bit slow to bloom - this heirloom variety that gives the appearance of "double blooms"
But I love them so much!
Of all of the flowers that bloom, I think it is the hope and promise of spring that bursts forth with the daffodils that makes them my favorite.
From another angle -
They just make me so happy!
The traditional variety beneath the window of the Quilting Quarters are in full bloom. I think I need to cut some and bring them in to welcome Debbie's group. They arrive this afternoon -
There is one hyacinth -
But its fragrance is mighty!
Along with the arrival of spring comes all of the maintenance and improving of things.
Next up on the new coat of paint list is the outside of the QPO Studio.
Yesterday son Jeff was over to start power washing and get off all of the flaky old paint that he could.
It makes things look worse before they start to look better!
Paint flakes everywhere - But that will be power washed off with the green moss, too.
Already the front brick wall is looking better - as is the parking area here...amazing what a good power wash can do.
He spent about 5 hours until the wind whipped up so badly that it became futile to continue. He'll be back today to do more.
You had questions on this little ditty!
These Gnome Santa table runners were being made during Irene's Sewciologists' retreat. The pattern is "HoHo Woodsy Gnomes" by My Fabric Addiction. A google search should find it for you. It's so cute!
In between flipping loads of laundry at the inn yesterday, I managed to kick out the last of the log cabin blocks needed.
Or at least - I think this is all I need until I start playing with layouts. Who knows...maybe I'll need more to make it bigger?
All I can say is that this has not made a dent in the strings, crumbs and cut-off triangle stash at all. AT ALL. Not that I really thought it would, but sheesh.
THE VERY LAST BLOCK.
(MAYBE?!)
And I love them.
There has been no particular plan other than neutrals on the skinny side, and colors on the fatter side.
It's a riotous mix of prints, solids, stripes,. plaids, genre - there were no rules other than if it is a color it goes on the wide side - if it is a neutral, it goes on the skinny side.
And now I get to start laying them out!
We'll see how far I get - there are beds to be made, and pressing stations to recover with fresh freezer paper.
Finishing touches, a bit of a change of décor as St. Patrick's Day stuff gets swapped out for Spring/Easter.
But I can't wait to finally make a decision on how this quilt is going to come together.
In case you missed it - this happened and is on-going!
My Waterford PDF pattern is now available in the Quiltville Store with an automatic 25% introductory discount good through 3/31/25.
It was inspired by a tile floor I photographed on my last trip to Ireland, when we took our Craftours group to the Waterford Crystal showroom in Waterford.
Waterford measures 80'' X 80'', but is easily made smaller or larger just by changing the number of blocks.
And yes, there is a Gift-Away!
I'll be drawing for two winners who will each receive a Waterford PDF pattern from me and a Notable Neutrals fabric roll from our friends at Cotton to Quilts
Get your entry in on That Post!
We'll draw for those winners THIS SATURDAY 3/29/25. Whew!
Did you catch this from this post?
My friend Bruce Leonard's newest Hadley Carroll novel Quilt City: Safety Second is joining the line up of other fun quilty mystery titles, continuing the story of Hadley's adventures in Paducah Kentucky.
I'll be giving away 3 copies of Quilt City: Safety Second so head to that post and get your entry in.
I think that catches us up to now.
How boring life would be if it all went the way we planned it.
I am grateful for the plot twists and bumps in my road that have brought me to where I am now.
Well, SOME. Not ALL!
Side note: I can't help but giggle at this block and wonder what happened to cause it!

Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

Not even so much what CAUSED it, but what kept the quilter from FIXING it, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI just finished a quilt where I found one of my stars set incorrectly. I spent an hour fixing it. After I quilted it and was sewing down the binding I discovered that I had also twisted a second star! Too late to fix. Some young person will love it anyway. Maybe that's what happened to this person. NancyB
DeleteMaybe so!
DeleteA wayward Churn Dash. Yep Plot Twist. Happy Spring. My few Daffys are blooming and the darker tulips are out. I love how they close up at night and In the rain. It's almost Dogwood ti.w, my favorite.
ReplyDeletePutting Old Town on my Quilting Machine today. Gotta get it done for Quilt show. I'll be looking for fellow Quiltvillians in the Show.
Face it - you are never going to make a "dent" in your scrap piles. And if you dare ever say you see a dent happening, I guarantee you there will be 1001 of us out here who will immediately box up our scraps and send them to you!! One way, no return address. You have created scrap monsters. LOLOLOL
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I can see that on a t-shirt. Bonnie’s scrap monsters. :)
DeleteLove seeing your big pretty daffodils! We only have a few light yellow ones. Every Spring I wish I had more throughout my yard because they're so welcome after Winter. We do have 12 hyacinths--yes I count each year to be sure they all came back lol. They're so pretty and smell so good!
ReplyDeleteOh, what pretty blooms! I have a few starting to come up on my rose bush. I'm excited for those. We are starting to get some much needed rain, but unfortunately with us it's feast or famine.
ReplyDeleteI'm always happy when tops reach the "block done" stage and you can start having the fun of laying out! Enjoy the new group. Have a good evening and happy stitching!! :-)
I have been sewing with a friend of mine every Thursday. I have so much fabric that now I am starting to use some for backing. It seems that because of my friend I sew now more than before. However, my stash doesn't seem to shrink.
ReplyDeleteIt has been awhile since I have posted to your blog. Spring is slowly making its way here in Missouri. My daffodils have buds but no blooms yet. I haven’t felt like sewing at all since having both knees replaced in December and January. I hope that in the next week to get back to some of my projects. I have a graduation quilt to sew before nd of May. I have not even started other than pick out fabric. I love the Waterford quilt pattern.
