This Is How We Do It! (And A Shout Out!)

All good things must come to an end as the saying goes.

And the reply is simply "But Why?!"

Wouldn't we like this to go on and on and on?

The August Quiltvillians have filled the walls and halls with love and laughter and I have enjoyed having them here at Quiltville Inn so much.

So many gorgeous projects.  So much yumminess coming out of the kitchen. So many wonderful friendships enjoyed!

Sunday evening's weather was wonderful!

Grassy CreekIndigo Way, Part of an App State in progress!

Becca is holding her Four-Patch & Furrows mini next to Chilhowie and a split nine-patch (Free Patterns tab.)

Disappearing nine-patch next to Jamestown Landing (String Fling) and a newly completed sampler top.

Tonni did finish her Daybreak top (String Frenzy) after the design wall disaster the other day!  This is folled by a Triple Treat Leader & Ender challenge finish (Free Patterns tab) and this color coordinated line up is completed by a Straits of Mackinac also from String Frenzy.

Sunday evening continued with a visit around the firepit - complete with s'mores!

Rule #1:  If they burst into flame - no flinging! Blow, baby, blow!

It was a beautiful evening!

If you look closely you can see both Zoey and Mabel - with Tula close at hand to supervise.

She takes her job seriously!

At one point she and Mabel were even closer to each other - but here they are at a very calm "I see you, you see me, and we are just as fine as can be." moment. Mabel could have reached her if she wanted, but she is just content to ALSO supervise.

These are the summer nights I wish would stay!

Tracy and Meg - winners of the cuss and rip jars -

About $60.00 each for them!  Hooray!

Thanks for another fantastic retreat, ladies!

Safe travels to everyone!

And this long-winded activity filled post is not done yet - we've still got this:

You all know my friend Bruce Leonard as the author of the Quilt City Hadley Carroll mysteries.  The ones with the cozy (if murders can be considered cozy!) mysteries happening around Paducah, Kentucky and all involve quilting as a theme.

You might not know that he also writes other genres - and since we all have a wide variety of things we like to read, I'm helping Bruce promote is newest release Hard Exit - which goes live on Amazon TODAY!

Bruce writes:

My latest novel, Hard Exit, will go live in ebook, paperback, and hardcover on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The good news is that I consider this mystery-wrapped-in-a-love-story that takes place in Malibu to be my best novel yet. It's my most personal novel and took me decades to write, rather than months, as the others did.

The bad news is that it isn't a cozy mystery that involves quilting. Therefore, it contains mature themes and language. But unless readers live in a cocoon, they encounter similar content daily. None of it is excessive or gratuitous, and it all serves the plot, which one successful author summed up this way: "Stellar!"

So for my other Bruce Leonard fans out there - TODAY IS THE DAY to show Bruce your support.

Synopsis:

Jack Drake shares a Malibu beach mansion with a gorgeous movie star but hates his life. The depressed private eye can't shake the death of his wife and can’t end his toxic relationship with Hollywood heartthrob Amanda Bigelow.

But an at-risk sixteen-year-old who is injured in an inner-city shooting gets Jack unstuck. As a favor to a friend, Jack sequesters Game in the mansion, keeping him safe.

Their worldviews differ, but they draw from their histories of loss and grief while investigating the shooting and three seemingly unrelated murders, tying Game’s world in downtrodden Oakville to Jack’s in idyllic Malibu.

Fans of wisecracking investigators such as Spenser, Kinsey Milhone, and Stephanie Plum will cheer for Jack Drake, a man in love with two women—one of them dead.

                                            Cover Blurb

“This is a smart, edgy, state-of-the-art L.A. noire with heart. Jack Drake is a private eye with grit, a few demons and a semi-glamorous life on the beach in Malibu. This series is a terrific addition to the modern hard-boiled genre.”

—New York Times bestselling author Jayne Ann Krentz

And yes - there WILL be a Gift-Away - look for that to happen here on the blog on Friday 8/9/24.  I'm drawing for the winners of the Summit St. Boxes on Thursday (Head over to THAT POST and get your entry in!) - and I couldn't have these overlap. And at the same time I wanted to give a shout-out to Bruce on the release day of his new book.  Release day sales mean a lot to an author.

Hard Exit shows such promise as a hit that it is Bruce's first book being offered in hard cover as well as paperback and Kindle.

Other Bruce Leonard titles:

Quilt City Murders is available here:
Quilt City: Panic in Paducah is available here:

And as soon as he finishes up what he is currently writing, he'll be back at continuing the Quilt City series with the fifth Hadley Carroll Mystery — Quilt City: Safety Second. I can hardly wait for more Hadley Carroll!

Book readers - please head over and grab a copy of Hard Exit for yourselves. If you happen to win our Hard Exit gift-away, I'm sure that Bruce would gladly send you an autographed copy of one of his other titles instead so you don't end up with a duplicate. (Unless that is what you want!)

Thank you for supporting my friend!

And with that - I'm off to tackle 12 loads of laundry and flip the house - The TaDa Quilters from Erie, PA arrive tomorrow afternoon!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

If this has ever happened to you - then you know! ⁣

    1. Joan E: I'm still mixed on whether I like audio books better. I look at what must take a lot of time and talent ($) to read a book outloud, let alone voice charaters differently! Marcia

I agree, I have missed Cats feedback, & she did seem to be having a rough time.
