Hiking the 4th!

We did it!

A handful of us including Connie's hubby Ed headed up to Grayson Highlands yesterday morning - choosing to go at 9am to beat the crowds that surely would follow on a gorgeous Independence Day Sunday.

I'm so glad we did!

I always tell folks that seeing the ponies is a bit like whale watching - you know they are out there, but whether you see them or not is always a question.

Up and up we go!

I like to take this section of the "horse trail" up to where it joins Rhododendron Trail partway up.  The path is wider here, and it is more shaded in the summer.  It's also a great way of avoiding a crowdy bottleneck on Rhododendron trail where folks coming down are stepping aside for folks going up the narrow trail.

And Ed made for a great cameraman!

And yes, there were ponies!

Even better - there were new curious foals!

See the little one in the back hurrying to catch up to his mama?  So fun!

What's this all about, little one?

Zoey wasn't so sure!

The foal got very playful, and Zoey jumped away! LOL!

Temps were only in the high 60s f as we neared the top.

Such a beautiful morning -

And yes - I had hat AND sunscreen!

This one napping -

This one not!

And mama always close by.

Hello, big fella!

Beautiful Mountain Laurel in bloom.

Finishing off the 4th with fire pit night!

The Floridians got chilly and needed sweaters!

Summer in the Blue Ridge is such a respite!

This is the summer of YUM!

And lest you think there is no sewing going on around here -

Let's just say that I was so busy laughing and chatting that I didn't see THIS happening until it was too late.

Seam ripper, anyone?

The Grateful Threads are here until Tomorrow at noon, so I get to enjoy them for a while longer yet - and it has been wonderful.

I'm also thrilled to hear how many of you are tickled and excited about all of the possibilities with our NEW Leader & Ender Challenge - Fish School!

It's going to be a fun unit/block to play with over the next year and just see what comes out of it.

I spent some time culling out the "short" 2'' strips from my 2'' strip drawer - I've got quite a stack to start cutting into half-square triangle units.  These scraps are going DOWN, and this is going to be a fun way to do it.

ALSO - it's time to draw for the winner of our Rivanna + Bitcoin Bundle Gift-Away featuring a fat-quarter bundle of Mary Koval fabrics from Windham and Mary’s Quilt Shop!
Who is entry 1511 of 6138?

Prices revert back to $12.00 each tomorrow, 7/6/2021 and the Rivanna + Bitcoin Bundle will no longer be available.

Today is the last day that Courthouse Square and our Unity quilt are also 255 off.

Prices are already marked 25% off - and the sale is good through tooday, Monday 7/5/21.

The price reverts back to $12.00 each on July 6th, so hurry!

I think that catches me up to now.  It's photo day at Quiltville Inn.  Group photos in front of the house, quilts over the rail on the side porch kind of day.  It looks like a good day for it.

I hope the continuation of your Independence Day weekend is a good one!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

To those who don't understand this passion called quilting, it must seem like a strange thing indeed.
However, as I follow the pull of my inner voice I know I am on the right path.
Just direct me to the fabric!

Have a wonderful Monday, everyone!

  1. I know that pulling feeling. I'm almodt finished with one quilt and Friday when I went shopping. I stopped at my avarice fabric store to get some needed material. Found out they were having a sale on quilt fabrics. I had seen some woodturning projects to that reminded .e of quilt patterns. The shop had the colors I wanted and I got what I needed for a quilt, paid the price and walked out happy. Now to finish my current project and get everything cleaned up and going.

  4. Hi Bonnie! Thank you for all your wonderful posts.I live in TN and would love to hike Grayson Highlands. The ponies and beauty of the land have drawn me! Can you tell me if there's parking for the trail you pictured and where exactly is this trail that's wider and shadier? Thanks for your help.
