What Day Is It Anyway?

Just two rhinos - standing at the side of the road, watching us drive on by.

Faces only a mother could love - and so close!

I think that is what got me the most this time around in Kenya -

"Well they are in a park." people say - but it's not THAT kind of a park.  Not like a zoo park.

Nairobi National Park in Kenya is 45.26 square miles (117.2 square kilometers) in size. It's smaller than most national parks in Africa, but it's still a vital part of the greater Athi-Kapiti ecosystem.

The animals have the full 45 square miles to roam. We are just hopeful that we are going to cross paths with them at some point.

It's a bit like whale watching - you know they are out there somewhere, but whether you see them or not is a bit up to chance.

Two herons perching.

Two storks standing.

(And if it's blurry it's because I zoomed in.)

Water reflection at just past dawn.

Four rhinos munching!

The baby one!

And this one in the bushes!

I'm amazed I got these horned beasts at all...they were on the move.

So is this guy - moving away from us.  All I got was a butt shot.

I love the giraffe - my favorite!

This is a photo that Sally took with my phone of me sitting where two other giraffes had decided to also pull up in the shade and just sit down.

Yes, I'm that close.  There is no fence.  Did you see this video of our time at Lake Naivasha?

Unbelievable walking tour!

You can find more of my videos on my InstagramFacebook and YouTube pages.

And I have more to post.  I just need to get my whits around me.

I see you, beautiful impalas!

Yesterday was all about getting the inn ready for the Shippenstitchers of Shippensburg, PA.

I was also hoping they'd beat the heavy rain that was incoming.  It looks like it's going to be really rainy over the next several days, but they are in and sewing.

(Yes, it's good to be home and back to some normal chaos!)

As for me?  By the time everything was done all I had time for was abit of cutting:

I can blow through my variety on these blocks I'm making, so I stop every once in a while and cut/sew a new set to bump that variety up.

I only need 5 more "big blocks" and I'll be ready to set Waterford together.

But I'm still moving a bit slowly.  I'll be taking some hexies over to the inn to stitch and visit with the ladies....

I think I need a few more days to be full steam ahead.

DRAWING IS TOMORROW!

Thank you for the great response to my Diamond Tile release!

The Quiltville Store has been humming, and I've also heard from people who started their blocks when the pattern came out in Quiltmaker, but never got around to setting them and now they have ideas.

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

(I love the orange in this one!)

It's ALL a learning process, folks! (Is it ever!)

And...hats off to the crazy quilter who thought 12 arcs in a fan was a good idea. I'm quilting 7 arcs on my star quilt and it's taking forever, so I'm wondering just how long this quilt was in the frame. I love it.

Okay. Time for breakfast. Off to the inn -

Have a terrific Thursday, everyone.

  1. Those shots of animals are so cool. To get that close!! I'm glad you had a great time.
    Rain here too. All day.
I'm working on a simple patchwork table runner, time to pick out a border fabric.
I gifted Crazy Mazie to my good friend for his nephew who is in a wheelchair. I hope he likes it.
    Have a great day 💗

  2. When you started counting the animals in the pictures, my mind started putting the descriptions to the 12 Days of Christmas. LOL

  3. As I study the flying geese quilt with pretty orange background, I agree that it must have taken a very very long time to complete. I've never seen one quilted with the Baptist Fan arc distances like this, or with so many arcs. Then the small FG look to be maybe 2"x4." It's a beautiful Labor of Love!

  4. The way you started your post with the pics I was waiting for a partridge in a pear tree! LOL!!!

  5. Oh, so many projects fit into the category of your quote today. Live & learn is right! I've heard that rhinos are a bit ornery. I would have been pretty nervous to be that close with no barrier. You are a braver man than I, Gunga Din!
