Runaway Day -

I'm putting something quilty at the top here -

Because this is really where I want to be spending my time.

My blue strip drawer is a pain to open.  And a bigger pain to shut.  There are just too many strips and it's time to whittle them down a bit.

This time I'm being a bit judicious and only using dark blues.

These strips have got to find a better place to live than in the depths of the blue strip drawer.

I'm now on a mission.

I need a lot of variety for what I'm doing.  And no, this is NOT the mystery.  This just another wild hare tile floor inspired thing.

Remember when I said I needed to locate all of my photos taken of tile floors and put them in one folder?  I started doing that.  It also included tile ceilings, tile wall patterns - you name it.  It's in there.

I can hardly wait to get back to this.

But in the mean time - this is what turned my yesterday into a completely runaway day.

Hubster Dave mentioned he had a dentist appointment in Jefferson at 1pm.  I asked if I could come along for the ride.  The dentist is right next door to CVS and I really needed to get my covid and flu shots done before leaving for Kenya on the 13th.

I checked and made an appointment via the app for 12:30.  Perfect.

We headed over to the inn where I was starting in on laundry and getting things ready for today's group arrival - and the canvas on all three ironing stations gave way.  After nearly 5 full seasons of retreats the heat from all of the ironing and pressing just finally had the canvas fabric giving way.

The freezer paper I put on top and change out every retreat has helped things to last - but eventually cotton fabric just disintegrates.

Which meant - while waiting for Hubster Dave to finish at the dentist I could run over to Lowes and get some extra strength velcro we use to fasten the pressing boards to their stations.

We were on a roll and I was sure we would have these done and in place within an hour -

Two shots done and off my to-do list.  YAY!

The canvas I am using is from 100% cotton duck cloth that came in the form of a painter's drop cloth.

If doing this - make sure yours is 100% cotton.  Some are a poly blend which wouldn't matter for paint, but for pressing surfaces, it does.

This is the canvas drop cloth I have used - am using - as it is 9' X 12' and there is so much fabric in it!

I've got it linked in the Quilting All the Time category of the Quiltville Amazon Affiliate Store.

Direct link HERE. #ad

We are not removing the old layer, just adding a new one to it so the batting and old fabric are staying there.

I am using the remainder of what was left after the first covering, and there is STILL a lot left for a third covering when we need it.

We finished one - and then promptly ran out of staples.  AUUGHHH!

Had I known we would run short I would have picked them up at Lowes while there -

So let's just say that last evening was also cut short by another trip to town to grab more staples so we can finish today and get the new pressing stations set back up.

All of this running to town also means that there are still a few loads of laundry that didn't get done.

And by the time we were back home for the evening I felt totally wiped out and non-functional.

Have you had these kind of runaway days, too?  I had planned on accomplishing so much.

Evidently the universe had other ideas.  LOL!

And don't worry - there is also this going on behind the scenes.

But NOT YESTERDAY!

  2. Yep, I've had days like that too. You're right, sometimes the Universe has other plans for us. Thanks for the reminder...I need to replace my pressing board also. Great tip to use a canvas cotton drop cloth.
Blue. I love blue. Can't wait to see what you come up with in your dark blue scraps!

  3. I had a similar day on Monday - Labor Day. Was full of labor for me. Started out getting my piece work done and bringing it in to the office - cause they don't care that there's no mail going out on a holiday, or that it is a holiday. If it's a Monday they expect the items to be sewn and delivered to them on Monday. Then went to the supermarket and got on one of their mobility carts. Made it to the back of the store and it died. Had to take my cane and hobble (bad back, bad knee, and a heart condition that makes walking more than 20 feet exhausting and hurtful). Made it to the front of the store and out the door to get another cart. Again the cart died at the back end of the store. The third one worked and took me all the way back to my car, but I was exhausted. A couple of hours after I got home, I noticed it was getting warm in the house (it's Florida and it's hot outside). The temp inside was up to 82 degrees and there was an alert saying the a/c had been shut off. Checked the a/c unit and found he drainage pipe was clogged. I needed a fitting to be able to attach my small shopvac to the drainage pipe outside. So, at 5 pm I went to the local Harbor Freight store and walked around quite a bit before I found the piece that I needed. When I got home, I was going back and forth bringing that shopvac outside and inside trying to alternately suck and blow out the clog. When I finally got it to work, and the a/c was back on, I was totally wiped out. At this point it was 7 pm and as I sat down in the kitchen, my boss texted me just then with the order for Tuesday. There was no way I was going to start cutting out the pieces to sew for Tuesday and texted her my day - she was nice and said Wednesday would be fine. All I wanted was a shower and a sandwich. But first the dog needed a walk (with me on my mobility scooter), so I wrapped a water soaked towel around the back of my neck and we went around the block 3 times. After we got home, she needed to be fed and I started feeling cooler after my shower. I grabbed a peach and sat down on my recliner. That was the end of my day.

  4. Drop cloths are so great to use for the ironing surface. Sorry you had to make an extra trip to town. Hubster Dave is a big help. Glad to see photos of triangles, I love the Essential Triangle Tool!!

  5. Runaway days? You bet! My 'wanna do' list yesterday got side-tracked by a collapsed/work/dead computer hard drive. It was trying to install Windows 11 (I have Windows 10) and the effort was just too much. Three-four hours to determine there was no way I could do anything for it, plus a bit more time arranging an appointment to take it to a not-too-far-away computer repair guy. By day's end, managing to catch up on a bit of the 'wanna do' -- including changing out the syrup in the 'waspinators' three times -- and I was beat! So I empathize! Safe travels overseas, eh?
