I needed a rather quick finish.
Ladder Star has months and months of hand quilting to go.
Don't get me wrong - you know how I love my evening hand quilting time - those things are not a race, and they don't have a deadline.
Square Pegs is still in the binding stage. I'll likely finish that over the weekend and then my evening stitching time will go back to hand quilting on Ladder Star.
Yesterday I took a look at the bins on top of my stash cabinets in an effort to ascertain whether there was something I could finish up rather quickly.

And these were partially assembled!
I set right in to sorting out this mess of strips and scraps I had stored with the blocks to see if there was enough to make the needed amount.
I made the 8 more cornerstone log cabin blocks:
YAY!
And then came the half-cornerstone log cabin blocks. I did have to make the flying geese and do some piecing of the cornerstone strips - but the flying geese triangles were already in the box making things extra easy.
I had to cut some strips, and make some cornerstone units - but that wasn't a biggie either. Why did I wait so long to finish this up?
Neutral half-log cabins and quarter log cabins made to finish up that layout.
I had some Lifetime Movie Channel junk playing in the background. Also known as "the man-hater channel" in our family over the past 30+ years. LOL.
Me shouting at the TV: "Don't you know that guy is a sleeze ball and he is going to clear out your bank account behind your back while he is wooing you?! Don't fall for it!!"
I love these dragonflies!
The temps stayed in the 30s just above freezing with a very cold windchill yesterday. I didn't feel like giving up my sewing time for a 30 minute drive to the grocery store for the few things I need - I just wanted to stay in and sew. And I did.
And it was worth it!
If you've started this one and it has gotten set back amidst the other UFOs - maybe it's time to pull it out and work on it a bit?
And if making the big one has turned into something too big to keep going on - maybe consider making the smaller version?
The finished size is about 55'' X 55'' before quilting.
It's a great size for me to hang in the entrance at Quiltville Inn or perhaps in the Hen Den this fall.
It would be a great table topper for the round entrance hall table too.
And I'm smiling as I put that now empty bin back on top of the other empty bins in the QPO studio.
What's up next? Checking the shelves in the home studio to see if there is something else I can push forward.

Awe... what a lovely fall wall hanging! I have pieces cut, and using the little 1/2 square triangles for leaders/enders in between other projects. Maybe over the summer it will get done for the fall. We are getting so excited here in South Central Texas... the total solar eclipse on Monday has everyone's attention! :)

ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear that others yell things at the TV, too. My kids are forever laughing at my comments. I thought I'd gotten Ditch Lilies when you first offered it but I don't seem to have it. I will have to fix that!
ReplyDeleteTwo opposite sides of the country (So Cal desert), same weather!! Freezing cold, terrible wind, and even some snow flurries! We made the same executive decision regarding running to the market. Love this smaller version of Ditch Lilies!
