Things are starting to green up in my corner of the Blue Ridge Mountains!
Green enough that the goats at Martha's Lazy Bee Farm are out and about and enjoying it.
And while the sun shines, and the cloudless sky above shows promise, it's still quite chilly - but getting there.
"Would you like to come along?" She asked.
"Of course!" And I had good reason - there is a new 2 week old baby goat to love on!

But don't let that face fool you - she is full of spit and vinegar and her brand new horn buds are just appearing.
It's like teething. For the top of your head.
It's enough to make anyone just a bit snappy!

It was a weekend of some sewing, some spring cleaning, and just some puttering around. I loved being outside with Mabel and Zoey - and it occurred to me that Mabel comes wearing her own camo when it comes to the woods!
She has "Sit!" pretty much mastered as long as it involves a treat.
This one - somehow thinks the top of the couch is just right for her. Yes, the paw crossing is a thing.
Or maybe, it's the arm of the couch with paws also crossed. Goofy girl!
I quilted through QUILTS!
The hand quilting got plenty of time in over the weekend evenings. I even turned the corner to the 3rd side.
Once I get all the way around the outside of the quilt, I can trim the quilt and put the binding on. And then I don't have to work with batting and excess backing fabric hanging out while I work my way in toward the center.
There will also be fewer seam allowances to deal with - the lettering has so many seams!
But stab-stitching and "one-stitch-at-a-time" is working to get through the tough spots, and yes I keep pliers on hand for when the needle is a bit tough to pull through.

Today's big job is Mabel's first vet appointment with our vet.
Check up, vaccinations, flea & tick meds (So crucial because they are in the woods every day here.) and also to see about a DNA test.
I am so curious as to what her heritage is. More and more we see lab in her. But lab plus what? Suggestions have been Aussie Shepherd, or Catahoula or Heeler.
The thing with Ivy is getting better. there is never any hissing. There is much curiosity on both parts.
They have been within inches of each other and Ivy still opts for up on the desk.
All in due time I think, and as long as we don't make a deal of the situation it will resolve itself.

I spent 3 1/2 days with a friend sewing I got all the blocks done for the RT mystery. and some other sewing done so happy with my progress. and we still took time to go out to eat and visit 2 quilt shops..
ReplyDeleteThere's a gal about 10 min. up the road from me that has a bunch of goats and I've been milking them (with help from my niece) since Oct. We go every Tues. to milk. She had the guys in with the girls for a month or so and they were removed end of Jan. So hopefully we'll have a bunch of babies before too long. She said last year she had several sets of triplets and some singles but no twins last year. Can't wait to see what this year brings. Thankfully she removes their horns at a pretty young age!! I always thought goat's milk was probably kinda nasty tasty but it tastes pretty much like goat's milk. I like it.

ReplyDeleteI am signed up for a daytime retreat beginning this Wednesday through Saturday and I can't wait! Time stitching with friends will be delightful. A wintry mix of freezing rain/snow is supposed to hit us later today so hopefully that won't mess us up too much. We'll see.

ReplyDeleteThe goats sound like a wonderful get-a-way!! I bet it would be fun to have them. I did get to quilt on the long arm yesterday so that is one less thing to worry about this long weekend. Today I am cleaning up little piles that need to be cleaned that have been put off for days like today! (I hope that made sense!) Maybe some more stitching time at the machine. 17 more blocks and this Disappearing 9 patch is ready to be assembled. Starting the countdown to Spring Break, where I have some custom stitching planned. I am just ready for Mother Nature to make her mind up, whether she wants it hot or cold, as we are on the weather-roller coaster this week! Have a great one!

ReplyDeleteI just left a whole pasture of goats at the 1890 House in Cedar Hill, Texas. We left Arkansas Thursday and ended by coming home today. 2 Texas peeps met the 4 Arkansas girls there for a wonderful retreat.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures of the dogs!! When you said that Mabel had mastered "Sit", it reminded me of the first 2 dogs I had after I got married. We had adopted a border collie mix puppy, & six months later adopted another border collie mix puppy. We were trying to train the 2nd puppy to sit. The 1st dog sat patiently when we told them to "Sit", the second puppy didn't sit right away, so the 1st dog took her paw & pushed down on the second dog's back end to try to get her to sit!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I did start something new: a 30's fabric quilt called Take Flight from Nancy Mahoney. I got started, then discovered I hadn't quite got the pattern down. Fortunately it was still a photo on my feed, so made one block and cut a bunch more using up little pieces in my stash! Such a good feeling, but why does the crate still seem full?
