Farewell, February Quiltvillians!

A couple of the February Quiltvillians left having made BANK in the Cuss Jar/Rip Jar pool! LOL!

I'm starting this post with this image because the drawing of the names was just so fun -

Now, you can choose to put 50 cents in each time you are caught cussing, or having to un-sew OR, you can just pay it all up front for unlimited cuss/rip moments (Usually happening at the same time) and hope to win it back at the end of retreat.

One of these jars had close to $50 bucks in it!  I'm not sure if it was cuss, or rip, but there are two quilters going home with fabric funds in their pockets! LOL!

It was a busy weekend of pressing, cutting, piecing, laughing!

Betty's Sand Castles from String Frenzy.

Fun fun fun!

This is Terry's - not sure of the name, but I love it!

Next to Terry's - Pat had her Rhododendron Trail at the half-way mark!  It was a race to see if she could get the top center together for group photo time!

This also happened.  Click to Play:

Go, Tonni, Go!

Everyone who wanted a chance, got a chance and they did great!  Our weather, however, was NOT so great - Gusty winds up to 33 mph and chilly temps made it impossible to get photos over the porch rail.  What can we say? It's February!

So we opted for photos in the dining room instead, and they turned out super!

Rhododendron Trail, a 3 yard quickie, and Grassy Creek in this photo!

A GE Quilt Design made by Sylvia on the left, and Tonni's September Sky  made in gorgeous Kim Diehl fabrics on the right.  SO PRETTY!

These colors glow!

Wonderful finishes, ladies!

Sharon is queen of the 3 yard quilt!

She finished SIX tops while on retreat this past week!

And yes, Pat DID finish her Rhododendron Trail center - these are all of the completed Rhododendron Trail tops from this past week.  Well done ladies!

Of course that is the perfect segue into:

It's mid-February!  And you know what that means?

Rhododendron Trail has been retired from the blog, has been completely unscrambled and rewritten into PDF Pattern Booklet Format and is available for download in the digital pattern section of the Quiltville Store!

I've kept all of the hints, tips, tricks and optional methods in - the full 8 week run of instruction is now in an easier to read and understand format!

I know you've been waiting for this one!

Cabin Corners is also available!!

Sew Many Scraps!

Wondering what to do with all of those precious small saved pieces?

Stitch up a riot of rainbow color accented with red and give it all (including the kitchen sink) a fabulous place to land!

This is a foundation paper pieced pattern with 16 pages of full instruction, and many full color photos to help you on your way to sewing up the scrap stash.

Quilt Size: 84’’ X 96’’

These two patterns released just yesterday, and yes there are introductory pricing discounts, and even a  Rhododendron Trail Cabin Corners Bundle!

The bundle is a limited time offer only available through 2/28/22 so hurry!

And YES!  We are having a Gift-Away!

I'll be drawing for 2 winners who will each receive that Rhododendron Trail Cabin Corners Bundle AND a Color Aplenty fabric roll from Cotton to Quilts!

Head on over to that Gift-Away Post and get your entry in. We'll draw for our two winners on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

My day yesterday was a flurry of laundry type activity.

One of the other things that happened this week behind the scenes - we ditched the instant hot water for the garage laundry because it couldn't heat fast enough to wash a load with hot water.  We went with a standard small electric unit and I was blissfully able to wash on hot immediately, where the "on demand" would have the washing machine load full of cold water before water had a chance to be hot.

Live and learn!

Our next group, Susan's Retreat, arrives on the 23rd and we'll be full of fun and quilty activity once again.  Can't wait!

How are things where you are?  Are you getting antsy for spring? Are you eager to start something new in your quilting endeavors?

  1. HA! I LOVE the rip and cuss 'jars'. My first thought on the rip was breaking wind!! I know..pathetic. Glad it was unsewing rather than the other. Loads of beautiful quilts as always.

    1. Sherrill, I need the rip jar at my house for "the other". You made me laugh so hard!

  2. In northern Illinois, we are prepping for yet another possible snowstorm. I have cat food (most important to my "owners"), and I am making a candy/snack run when I finished this message. As long as the power stays on, I have plenty of projects and my daily walking to get accomplished.
What is it about possible bad weather that makes me want to cook?

  3. The finished tops are beautiful. My Rhododendron Trail got sidelined for a Birthday Quilt I promised for this week to be quilted. My Betsy is rusty. Lots of stops and starts. Gotta get it trimmed up and ready for the binding. Have a wonderful Wednesday.

  4. Once again it is so fun to see what your retreaters accomplish! Thank you, Bonnie. I am going to a retreat next week for 4 days at a fabric shop close by but we do not spend the night. We have a great time going out for lunch together and it works best for me to be at home in the evening with my "hubster." I am getting fabric strips together today for a scrappy project I want to work on. We may bet some snow Wednesday into Thursday. Spring is coming though.

  5. We are having warm temps here in Arkansas TODAY - who knows about tomorrow. I am packing to go to Cedar Hill, TX tomorrow with 5 friends to the 1890 House. Can't wait to go on this retreat. The quote today is correct. Be kind to everyone, you never know who needs it.

  6. We have on-demand hot water. Right before I run the dishwasher, I run the sink on hot to get that hot water going. I don't know if the same thing would work right near your clothes washer. It's not a problem for our clothes washer, because we do everything on cold. We are only washing for ourselves, not for guests coming in.
I'm working on finishing quilts for my guild's quilt show. Months ago, I was going to have "no problem" completing these three quilts whose tops were already done. Now? I'll definitely finish one today or tomorrow and hop on the next one. Tops, backs, and binding are already created. I expect I can finish the second, but the 3rd? Before 3/10? I'll give it the old quilter's try.

  7. The tan strings in Betty's quilt look like cork. It totally adds another dimension. I love that!

  9. I'm off to our group retreat in a couple of weeks, it's only 3 days unfortunately, never long enough but it's great to be there anyway. I have a goal to one day get to a Quiltville retreat, it would be really something special, but as I'm in Australia it's not likely to happen anytime soon.

  10. Can you remind me where to find the spray mist bottles and the handy holder for the ironing board - having trouble locating on your site. Thanks.
