Never Goodbye, but See You Later!

Look at that sunlight streaming on the right!

It was a sunshine Sunday when we quickly grabbed this photo off the side porch at Quiltville Inn – we needed as much shade as we could find, and also have The Hubster Dave playing photographer standing in the same shade – or we would have been completely washed out!

These gals were SO prolific during our time together – New quilt projects started,  tops-in-progress were completed, even binding was hand stitched down during quiet time in the Hen Den.  I loved the ever present bursts of creativity and idea sharing that happens whenever and wherever quilters gather.

And I loved teaching my first workshop to a retreat group.  12 in a class is WONDERFUL!  Our class was Blue Ridge Beauty from my book Adventures with Leaders & Enders.  It’s available in the Quiltville Store for just $19.99.

I loved showing the ladies how to easily cut the triangle pairs already matched together – from strip sets using my Essential Triangle Tool.  Easy Peasy!

And then, of course – the HUMOR!

Do we tell her? Or let her keep searching? LOL!

#dontleanonthedesignwall

No worries, after the photo was taken, she was told where the missing block had landed, and everyone had a great laugh.

We ALL drooled over Sue’s beautiful blue Featherweight.

This beautiful Bernina is Barb’s.

Have you ever seen a Bernina Jubilee before?

I hadn’t!

Sylvia had made great progress on her Frolic Quilt by the time she was packing up.

Barb’s Blue Ridge Beauty in recycled fabrics is SO lovely!

And those little Wild & Goosey blocks are the bomb!

I am missing these happy faces already!

I love watching the quilt block play -

Twist and turn those blocks to so many different variations!

We started echoing a heart here!

From our workshop block play -

Pooling everyone’s blocks together to see what we could do.

Zigzags are fun, too!

Another heart!

Oh, I love where this ended up!

Having full design walls is the BEST thing!

Seeing them empty after everyone picks up – is so sad!

Sharon’s cute farm quilt for a grandson!

These little fellas are on their way back to Alaska!

These belong to Nancy –

Pattern designed by Lorna McMahon of Sew Fresh Quilts.

Several ladies had left earlier in the morning while I was busy getting the day’s mail order filled and to the USPS.  They had long drives ahead of them.

More left right after lunch with rounds of hugs and “Can’t wait until we do this again!”

Some are planning trips up to Alaska to now see where Nancy lives!  I think this is all so great – the quilting brings us together, but the friendship binds us!

I left the few remaining as I had a dentist appointment and couldn’t stay longer.

The house was empty and silent when I returned.

But my heart is full!  We’ll see you next March, ladies!

And in the mean time -

Ideas are flying -

WHAT IF:

What if I shrink the Blue Ridge Beauty block, use leftover triangles and scrappy four-patches and play with some of those alternate layouts???  Do I dare? Oh, this could be fun!

The only thing on my agenda today is laundry.  And we are about half-way done, using both the washer/dryer at the inn, and also the one here at the cabin.

In the future we are installing a commercial washer/dryer set up in the garage/shop.  But that has to wait for a while.

In the mean time, there will be rounds of block cutting, kitting and sewing while one load washes and the other tumbles.

I’ll be smiling through the quiet, remembering the happy boisterous quilters whom I am sure are taking NAPS today!  They deserve it!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Sometimes plans can be interrupted by stumbles and hiccups and even large roadblocks, but it doesn't have to be the end of the journey!

Santa Fe String Star from my book String Fling available in the Quiltville Store.

What’s up for your Tuesday?

  1. That cute Koala is a design from Lorna McMahon of Sew Fresh Quilts. She helped to raise money to help the koalas in Australia by donating the proceeds of the pattern. Cool lady and awesome pattern designer. I just made her Bikini quilt for my granddaughter.

  2. Tuesday in Mississippi is my favorite day of the week. It is the day I get together with 9 Quilting friends. We hand stitch, laugh, share, teach and most of all support one another. We bring our own lunch, alternate our homes and the hostess provides dessert. I come home renewed, refreshed and “exhausted” from laughing so much.

  5. I love the idea of shrinking the Blue Ridge Beauty blocks. I mostly make large bed quilts but have discovered I can make three mini quilts with the left over scraps or units from every big quilt. It's fun to have a little something made from the left overs! It was great seeing those quilts hanging from that beautiful front porch, I'm sure it's one of many many more pictures to come!!

  7. Such beautiful quilts hanging from the quiltville inn rails, and another bunch of lovely ladies. Really like the different ideas for blue ridge beauties so pretty. The koala quilt is going to look amazing and so nice the designer is helping the Australian disaster.
Thank you for sharing some of the fun with us
    Love and quilty hugs

  9. About 20 years ago my mother-in-law gave me that same Bernina (from her aunt), except mine doesn't say "Jubilee". Interesting, maybe it was a special promotion? Nice machine, quiet and solid with a nice stitch.
