This was under my needle yesterday.
The “Green Irish Thing” (Yet to receive official name and shown in yesterday’s post) is begging to be completed. And it will be. Soon.
But yesterday’s agenda necessitated spending a bunch of time between Quiltville Inn and my Quiltville Post Office. I remembered right away to pull the green and neutral 1 1/2’’ strips from the Scrap User’s System drawers and put them in my van so I wouldn’t forget for evening sewing time.
I have plans this morning to play hooky with my friend Martha. We are heading out to go look at a treadle machine she is interested in, and that meant getting all mail order caught up yesterday so it can just be dropped off this morning on my way to meet her.
And I had Andrea and her hubby come from Yadkin Valley Quilts in Elkin, NC come up in the afternoon to tour the inn and to make plans for the retreat the shop is hosting in April.
I was delighted to hear that in their “previous” life this lovely quilt-shop-owning couple used to cater events and they are all on board with providing all of the food for their retreat. We even talked about a grill as there will be home smoked meat to delight everyone’s senses – and taste buds!
There are still 2 spots open for the April 2-5, 2020 dates, so if you are a single person without a group (Or you and a friend!) please contact the shop at the above link for all of the details. There will be door prizes and goodies and more, and I know a grand time will be had by all.
I between all of this – I loaded this lovely!
And I had just the perfect backing for it! When I taught at Stitchin’ Heaven last April (Yes, the road trip that inspired our Frolic Mystery!) I received a gift pf 2 yards of this fabulous Texas fabric – it’s a digital print with all things Texas (Including the Stitchin’ Heaven boot and logo!) and I knew it needed some place special to land. there was just enough for the back of this smaller version of my Irish Courthouse pattern which measures just about 46’’ x 46’’.
Lola in the sunny spot -
She was going to have to move at some point!
Franken Batting in the making!
On the spool holder is a pre-wound bobbin that for whatever reason would not fit nicely in the bobbin case. I’m using it up as top thread!
A simple zig-zag does the trick!
When we moved the long arm up here to Virginia, and everything I needed to go with it, I brought a HUGE bin of batting scraps with me and it has been my goal to use up these smaller pieces in smaller projects. I have used a ton of batting pieces for the placemats and table runners. And the volume IS going down!
This is the extra pieces of silk blend from Jason’s hexagon. I only needed to cut the length in half and stitch them side by side and the piece was big enough to have it ALL GONE. Once quilted, you can’t feel that there is a seam there.
I simply set the machine on the longest-widest zig-zag setting, overlap the edges about 1/8’’ to prevent gaps and away I go. This way there is no fusible glue in my batting and inside my quilt. Just cotton thread.
In the quilting process!
Small quilts finish quickly!
I had this trimmed and ready for binding before heading home to fix myself dinner. It was getting dark by the time I left, but I just couldn’t stop until it was done.
And yes, ,this will be a digital pattern in the future, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Dresden says – “Hurry up and get on with it already!”
I want to have the binding on so that I can sit and stitch with the ladies at next week’s retreat! Pieceful Hearts group from Augusta, Georgia – I am ready for you!
I have heard from several of you who are excited to be participating in the spring 2020 session of Free Motion Quilting Academy starting February 17th! The start of the course is only a week away. You will have such a great time learning how to machine quilt your own projects on your own machine.
Let 2020 be YOUR YEAR to learn something new!
This morning’s sunrise -
What we do makes a difference! Yes, even the little things mean so much.
However you spend your Monday, make it a good one!
What is the note on the side of your Millennium?

ReplyDeleteI love the border on that quilt!
ReplyDeleteHello Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know if I shouldbe happy or sad...I am OBSESSED with wonky log cabins and courthouse step blocks I just sewed 80 Halloween wonky log cabin blocks into the cutest top ever! I have waiting another 80 Halloween courthouse steps, enough for two Christmas log cabins, and am working on a black/gray/brown one with neutrals on one side. This is the year for making a dent in the scrap bins! Just sayin!
I wish I could see the sunrise from our house. I might have an incentive to get up earlier. We get the glorious Texas sunsets, but they are are usually coming in the kitchen window, blinding me as I’m trying to wash dishes..😂😂. I love seeing your kitties enjoying their new surroundings. They are so funny! Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteDresden and Lola look st content and happy in their new home, they just love being with you. Your beautiful quilt is just darling and I definitely think this is one I will try in the future. Just working on step 9 of frolic and I’ve made a mistake so I sew a fair bit of unsewing to correct this. I thought I’d been so careful clipping my sets together but hey ho, I will get it right just need to remove host’s from the 2 neutrals and 4 patches and put the correct one in lol.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time with Martha.
Love and quilty hugs
Anne xxx
