From One Coast to the Other …

Has anyone seen Los Angeles?

I can’t find it amongst the smog!

Oh, it’s in there all right – it just hasn’t burned off yet.  This is June in California.

And this is nowhere near as BROWN as it was when I was growing up in the state.

This was the long leg of my trip – and as some small airports (Destination, San Luis Obispo!) don’t have access to all air carriers, I had to take an airline that I don’t usually take.

My route with United took me from Greensboro, NC Northeast to Washington/Dulles and then coast to coast to Los Angeles, where I finally boarded my last flight into San Luis Obispo.

It adds about an hour or more in flight time versus connecting in Atlanta, but what’s a girl to do?  Grin and go with it! Or SEW with it, as the case may be!

I didn’t get as far as I wanted -

My eyes were heavy and I napped instead!

Still, it felt good to be putting some of these little diamonds together – and it seems like I will be doing A LOT of that on my off hours this week – I left my machine piecing project on the cutting table at the cabin.  Good grief.

Selfie with the Navy!

The cool thing about flying out of Dulles – more than HALF our plane was full with clean cut and well dressed Navy folks heading off to San Diego.  I felt like a proud mama!  My grandfather on my dad’s side was Navy, my 2 brothers were also Navy.  So Go NAVY!

It’s just such a contrast as compared to those who want to fly in their pajamas taking no care of their appearance at all.  I do think we as a society have lost something.  We come at our worst, instead of our best.  It has made us care less some how.

Little plane to San Luis Obispo!

No smog here!  Just beautiful blue skies and sunshine!

And I fell in love with the slogan and hashtag as found right in baggage claim: #slocal Why Rush?  Check this out:

"No offense to fast, but slow is good for your soul. Slow can set you free.

When the rest of the world is racing to the end, slow gives your life the attention it deserves. Away from the noise and the chaos of crowded streets, slow shines a golden light on the world. A world you've been too busy to see.

In this place, slow is not falling behind, it's the freedom to catch up with the things that matter most to you.

Soon enough, you'll see a world that's just your speed. SLO CAL"

What a terrific ad campaign!  And the guy’s voice – so SLO and even…..mesmerizing.

So I am embracing the SLO this week.  I plan on some time hand stitching by the pool.  Some time walking in the evenings to stretch my legs and smell the eucalyptus and the star jasmine!

Heavenly!

Bloom where you are planted! This is the color of my childhood, growing up in San Jose California from 2nd grade on through high school. I have always loved California poppies and it brought a huge smile to my face to see them blooming in the sunshine today. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿงก . . Pink oleander, agapanthus, bougainvillea, jacaranda, bottlebrush, bird of paradise- other favorites I love to see here. . . This girl is toast after a long travel day. I've been up since 3:30 a.m. East Coast time which is 12:30 a.m. West Coast time. My body clock is all askew and I am doing everything I can to stay up till 9:00 p.m. tonight to try to kick this body clock into Pacific time! . . But so excited and happy to be here! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ‘ . . . . #quiltville #bonniekhunter #quiltntravel #california #californiapoppies #poppy #poppies #cheddar #orange #color #quiltlife #bonniehunter #quilter

To catch the last evening rays on vibrant geraniums.

To play with the quilters all through the day – and enjoy every SLO moment of my time here!

Our workshops are being held in Atascadero, and the show itself starts Saturday in San Luis Obispo.  I’ll be there for part of the day on Saturday, I hope to see you there too!

Did you catch our June ‘19 Quilty Box Gift-Away post from yesterday?  It’s a great one and you are going to want to enter to win ON THAT POST. Drawing to happen Sunday – the morning I fly home, so get your entry in!

Also – and this is big news for me.  I have arranged a guy to move my longarm machine from Wallburg on up to the QPO in Virginia.  I haven’t longarm quilted anything since November, and it is a dream come true to have this become a reality.  The logistics of this whole thing coming together have been quite the tap dance.

  2. I'm happy your long arm is moving to the QPO. One more step in the process will be completed soon.

Two to three weeks ago I made a 34 hour road trip with a friend and her grandson. We took eight days for the drive stopping at museums, waterfalls, national parks, and look outs along the way. It was a slow, leisurely trip and a relaxing time and true vacation. I was surprised at how rested I felt at the end. Good advice.

  5. "I do think we as a society have lost something. We come at our worst, instead of our best. It has made us care less some how." Love this quote of yours Bonnie! If we do the basics of caring for our bodies, homes etc...it will naturally spread out of us into other areas of our lives. I think it spreads from the inside out.

  6. I agree with Susan above - love the quote. It is too bad that we as a society don't seem to care any more how we dress/look which is reflected in our behavior.
