Quiltmaker May/June ‘19 Gift-Away!

We are headed full on into Summer, my friends!

I grabbed up a bunch of goodies yesterday on my way to the airport to pick up my friend Lori who grabbed a red-eye overnight flight to come spend a few days with me during my Spring Break home!

There will be time for sewing when it rains – but we are counting on intermittent bursts of fair weather for hiking around these parts!  SPRING in the Blue Ridge!  More on what we saw yesterday further below – but first – THIS BIG Gift-AWAY!

Now hitting news stands near you!

Check out the beautiful color on the cover!

There are so many wonderful projects in this issue.  Quilting Magazines are STILL the best bang for your buck – several great patterns for less than you would pay for a single stand alone pattern anywhere else.  I LOVE perusing magazines and seeing what different fabrics things are made with, and envisioning my own.  It sparks a long line of ideas I can’t wait to did in and try.

Lynn Carson Harris’s article about her love of tiny blocks!

This was our yesterday!

Knowing that Lori of Humble Quilts loves to hike every chance she can, and also knowing she’s never been to this corner of Virginia before – I plan to give her as much hiking as her little heart can handle.

And her heart was definitely stolen by the Highland Ponies that roam wild DOCILE all over this section of the Appalachian Trail.

There should be a sign for the Ponies – “DO NOT PET THE PEOPLE!”

They come right up and nudge you with those soft noses. What are you supposed to do?

Stop right there, pony!  Don’t come any closer! LOL!

Came up from behind and nudged my knee.

Stop petting the people! LOL!

More fun from our time with the ponies in the video below.

We hiked a bit over 2 miles – it was a perfect warm up!

I enjoyed giving her a tour of Quiltville Inn and the Quiltville Post Office, showing her what we have done to date and what we plan on in the future.  We grilled chicken skewers and grilled baby asparagus for dinner along with some sautéed yellow squash and a delicious salad.  It is so fun to have another woman in the kitchen to make meal prep full of fun conversation.

A long hot tub soak and evening chat while watching the stars soon followed as soon as it was dark.  From there I could feel Lori fading – she really didn’t sleep much on her overnight flights and did the best she could to stay up until bedtime here so she could reset her body clock ahead 3 hours and not wake up at 2am.

I wonder which trail we will choose to hike today?  And if rain should fall, we’ve got machines up and ready to sew.

You don't need to have it all figured out to start making progress towards where you want to be.

If we wait until we are ready, we'll be waiting for the rest of our lives!

  1. Wonderful pictures. I spent a few years near the Blue Ridge Mountains just outside Morganton, NC. I can still recall the wonderful smell of the mountain laurel as we traveled up the yellow mountain highway to Lake James.

  11. Those ponies are awfully cute. They look like our miniature horses, who are definitely attention hogs and who are well aware of how cute they are.

  12. If all those ponies were not different colors it would be tempting to think you were were showing us the same three ponies,,,,, hehe.
