Florida is still standing!
My flights were on time, uneventful and all luggage was not only accounted for, but arrived first off the belt.
Things are looking up!
And while Texans may be Texas Tough in the face of hurricane aftermath, Floridians stand Florida Fabulous and pull out all the stops to get back on track.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to see when I arrived. My hotel, after all had just re-opened on Monday and here I was flying in on Tuesday. But all systems are go in this area and getting better every day, one step at a time.
And when the going gets tough, the quilters get quilting and that is what we are here to do!
First things first…

I’m thinking this was meant for a handicapped room, which I am not in –but this board stands shorter than my inseam. SO funny. I guess I could iron my outfit sitting down. I was looking around trying to find the “Candid Camera”. I’ll talk to the front desk this morning and see if they can switch it out for me. I stand 5’ 9’’, Look at that counter height!
Dinner at StitchCraft!
The guild girls had planned an easy meal in the classroom of the local quilt shop, perfect for a meet & greet and a bit of fabric fondling on the side. The fabric here is high and dry and many in this area didn’t even lose power during hurricane Irma, they just hunkered in and quilted behind hurricane shutters. Resilient, I tell ya!

It was a long full day, go go go go go…and by the time I got back to my hotel around 9:30pm I realized I was HUNGRY! There is a Denny’s maybe 2 blocks up the road, so I hoofed it on over. I’m thinking DESSERT at this point. But as it turns out, their power just got turned back on yesterday and their delivery of ice cream to restock the freezer hasn’t arrived yet so ice ream was OFF the agenda.
Yes, it’s true!
I ended up with breakfast off the menu and had to pull my driver’s license to prove I am 55. Still can’t believe I’m 55 myself, but I’ll take advantage of the senior menu when I can!
Today we are starting out with Jamestown Landing and a full class of quilters ahead. It feels good to be back in the saddle and sharing my love of scrap quilting with others.

ReplyDeleteThat is one mighty fine quilt shop for the near tropical tip of Florida. I don't envy them the weather, but I'd love to putter around in that shop for an hour or two.

ReplyDeleteO have enjoyed my Senior discount for 5 years. Glad to have you in the Club! Florida gals will have Sew much fun stitching with you and all the fabric around. Rain has come to the PNW and the 'white stuff' has been sited in the mountains. No time to enjoy Fall.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were able to keep this engagement, and I'm sure it was a special happiness to the quilters to have your visit/workshop to look forward to in the midst of all their worries lately. My Aunt Elsie used to say that we need something to look forward to all the time, and it must make you feel good to know that you were that 'something' for these quilters.
ReplyDeleteI visited that shop last winter while in FL. Chris Dodsley had written about it on her blog and since it was less than an hour from my brother's house, I just had to check it out.
ReplyDeleteOh Bonnie. Getting carded for over 50's was funny. It's always a surprise when you realize that life has been moving on and now years older. I know everyone there was so happy to see you after all they've been through. Enjoy your time with them and Florida.

I was last asked for ID in my mid 30's when buying a bottle of wine at the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteI am now in my mid 70's and that same grocery store just automatically figures in the "senior discount" without asking for ID---:-)
