What a fun and lively group we had yesterday for our Jamestown Landing workshop from String Fling!
Our time flew by so quickly, and we really did make the most of it.
Several quilters had never tried string piecing before, and I think we’ve got them hooked!
The neutral strings in both of our workshop days while here with the Gold Coast Quilters in Boca Raton play such an integral role in the quilts! We are learning to combine a variety of neutrals into a pleasing whole that adds so much more texture to the quilt than one big piece of yardage could never accomplish.
We are looking at things a bit differently and sewing with reckless abandon!
My favorite part? The swapping and sharing going on. The best!
Fun door prizes from Vintage Textile Soak!
We had not just ONE quilter putting Y2K Millennium fabric in her quilt, but TWO! One in red, one in blue. Cut it small, and who will know? So much fun!
My thanks to the folks at Vintage Textile Soak for making my students so happy.
Blue Y2k with just a bit of sparkle!
Vintage Textile Soak to you too!
It was a day for string piecing blocks!
A day for cutting triangles with the Essential Triangle Tool!
A day for shouting out to friends who are missed -
And a day for “Why didn’t I think of this?!?!”
GENIUS!
A fun time was had by all!!
Marvelous day!!
You will catch the rest of our classroom activities in the slide show below:
Afterwards, several of us gathered for dinner at 2 Georges, along the inter-coastal waterway.
Cloud cover, light on water. Beautiful!
Beautiful evening!
Blue tarps remain on the roof at 2 Georges.
Quite a few places had power returned just this week after Hurricane Irma's wrath last week. Clean up is still in full swing and there are hundreds and hundreds of power trucks and other maintenance vehicles from states all over who are helping to restore things to normal here, bit by bit, one day at a time. The sight of downed trees and debris is everywhere, it will take a while. And this area fared well compared to many other parts of the state. I’m glad I was able to come!
I’m still waiting to hear how Aunt Gail and Uncle Tony fared on Puerto Rico with Hurricane Maria. No word yet. I finally had to turn off the weather channel. Prayers are most welcome.
Today is a non-workshop day. It’s Rosh Hashanah! I’ve got plans to tour around a bit with some of the guild ladies and join them for lunch. That will be nice. Tomorrow we’ll be back at it again with a Roll Roll Cotton Boll workshop.
Shana Tova to those who celebrate! A Sweet New Year to you!

Everything you create shares a little bit about who you are. Don't hold back!
Hi Bonnie
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very fun group. I think about half dozen of your quilts are in by list. Am getting together the fabric for string piecing. Love all your quilts. I'm looking forward to your visit to Oregon. Trish
While you are in Florida - watch for Hydro One Power Gangs from Ontario -- many, many workers from here are down there helping out as well.
ReplyDeleteMy prayers to you for news from your aunt & uncle. Looking forward to the day when I can take a class from you and enjoy all this fun!
ReplyDeletePrayers for your Aunt and Uncle...and all in Puerto Rico.

ReplyDeletePray that everything is okay. Peace be with you.
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful that you chose not to teach on Rosh HaShanah and posted about the holiday. Many teachers would have ignored their Jewish followers. You are very special. I wish you a healthy happy year.
