It's A Top!

Look what came together!

And I am so tickled.

Done before all of the leaves are on the ground and the grass goes brown.

The Muddy Creek Misfits dwindled from 9 to 7 as one by one folks left to attend Saturday weddings and other anticipated events....sometimes life gets in the way of quilt retreats, but we squeeze in all of the quilting we can, gather for as long as we can and fit in as much fun as we are able.

The remainder of the group headed home yesterday morning so I had a day to get this ready for quilting.

A final press was in order...

Well dang!

That fabric is like a magnet, wanting to go back up against itself!

Oh well, it stays.

And here too.  How does this always happen?

Do not care at this point.  It stays.

One victory lap to secure all the seams at the edge -

I am so happy that my pressing worked so that everything nests throughout the whole thing! Whooowhooo!  That makes me happy.

I was thinking of hand quilting this one so I pressed the triangles to one side...but with everything going on, I think I'm going to machine quilt it.

The only thing I may have done differently if I KNEW I was going to machine quilt it was to press the half-square triangles open to eliminate some bulk when making the blocks, but the longarm can pretty much go through everything and it didn't hinder me in matching points.

We have a top finish!

And this is good - with everything happening with Jason I just can't wallow.  I have to sew through my feelings and I know there are many who will understand.

More progress has been made on making arrangements and I am so grateful for all of those who have reached out and are working behind the scenes with offers of meals, of driving, of temporary lodging until we find out just what we are dealing with as far as Jason's recovery and rehab go.

The many prayers and well wishes and stories with positive outcomes are lifting us tremendously.

The thing I keep reminding myself of is a Martin Luther King quote:

We can't see the whole staircase.  We don't know what the road ahead really is.  But we can take the first step, and then another step, and then another step after that one.

The steps will reveal themselves as we go along.  And this is where we are.

Flash looking handsome on Saturday as I went back and forth.

Leaves have thinned out enough to reveal the old woolen mill buildings behind the inn.

And look!  I was even able to clear the cutting table of strips once the quilt top was complete.

Dinner out on Saturday evening -

Jason had texted us when he was back in the land of cell reception that he was on his way home from his camping weekend.  We snapped a selfie to let him know we were out at BBQ.

And here we are at Monday.

Our Lahinch Gift-Away happens Wednesday!  So don't miss that -

I think that just about covers everything for now.

What's your plan for today?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

I spent the first half of my life gathering it all.

Now I'm spending the second half of my life sewing it all up and having a blast!

Happy Monday, folks -

  1. I love that quote from MLK. It's hard to actually do but it's so right. It's useless to fret about what one doesn't know but so natural to do so. I know all scenarios are different but my youngest brother had a brain tumor at the back of his head when he was 16 and he is 59 now......prayers for you and your family...and for the skill of Jason's medical team.

When I was working I always said I was stock piling for retirement. Now that it is here it is so true. Hugs for your whole family as one day at a time reveals the next step. ☮️💜

  4. Continuing to keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Remember to take a minute to breathe when you aren’t able to calm your thoughts with the hum of the sewing machine.

The grace with which you attend to your beautiful family and acceptance of what is beyond your control is beautiful. God has blessed these doctors to take care of things and, thankfully, then you can step in to help keep his spirits high while healing. Bless you all on this journey.

I'm laughing so hard at your quote of the day. I just finished making quilt #5 out of a sweater-sized plastic tub of fabric. The lid now snaps on the tub but it is far from empty. There are many more tubs like this and fabric on shelves, so I will be immortal for sure!

I am wishing Jason a speedy and complete recovery. Am glad to hear that that you and yours have been wrapped up in care by the Vancouver WA area. I'm glad to know that all the details of caring for someone when distance is involved are settling out.

  8. Seeing it all together it reminds me of one of your mysteries that I did inspired by a beach photo, with soft greens and blues joing the sand coloured fabrics. Nature's beauty is so wonderful! I cant wait to see what marvelous colours get used once you release this pattern.

Bonnie, I love your latest top. We got to Asheville yesterday and spent a few hours today on the Parkway. More gold than tan down here and I kept wondering how I would quilt this year’s colors. Shalom to you and your loved ones!

  10. Awe, Flash is looking as handsome as that new quilt top! :-)
Glad to see him coming around more, as we all knew he would.
As with everything, always keep looking at the positive side of things. It does no good to wallow. Sewing helps me work through things as well.
Today I bound a couple of table runners and bookshelf covers for our classroom. The sewing room is cleaned up & ready to sit idle for the week. Happy stitching!

Catching up after several days offline. I love the quote from MLK. I send the best wishes to Jason for successful surgery. And for the family that loves him I send true wishes for hopefulness, courage, energy to be there for him. So glad you are finding ways to be with him. You do so much for all of us all year long, now it is time for you to spend your time and energy with and for family. Henriette Area

  13. Will this quilt top be called "Muddy Creek"? It would work and where you finished it as they left.....
