I think I've gotten everything laid out where NONE of the same fabrics are touching each other (Heaven forbid they do!!)
And I'll spend some time this weekend getting this top put together.
There is something about sewing that is soul centering. Like the activity of putting pieces in order in a quilt allows my mind to put pieces and timelines and to do lists in order at the same time.
Quilting is not an act of denial. It's a method of stilling the chaos.
You know what they say....Go on and kill them with kindness 'cause you just can't kill them!

Favorite accidental fussy cut!
It's been many years since my last trip to Alaska, but in amongst the sandy colored strips I was using for this quilt was a strip from a fat-quarter I had purchased. With MOOSE. Because, Alaska.
Somehow most of the other fabric squares I cut from that strip just had moose legs, or moose heads, and rarely a moose survived the rotary cutter to show his whole body, but in this case...this moose makes me smile.
Scrap quilts just bring me so much happiness - and all of the memories of previous places I've been and the memories that we made are in the fabric pieces.
If you've purchased special fabrics for a commemorative trip quilt that you just can't seem to get around to, I would encourage you to take one strip off of those saved pieces and USE THEM NOW in a scrap quilt. It turns every quilt into an instant memory quilt.
Speaking of memories - let's all laugh at that paisley triangle that is just below the moose print.
How many of you still have any color variation of this print in your stash? It's OLD! Be a bit passive/aggressive and cut it up and sew it in.
And can we just all clap that the points in this photo are mostly okay? For this week, that is accomplishing something.
Over at the inn...
Susan has been diligently strip pieing on a kit she's had for a while. The fabrics are lovely.
This will be beautiful!
Got a kit hiding in the depths of the stash? Kits are GREAT retreat projects. Easy to simply bring and work on - no packing stress needed.
Leaves and nine-patches for the Pineberry quilt are coming together!
Another cute and quick finish made from a Halloween layer cake.
I love these bocks!

Quick fun with an adorable Halloween panel.
Just because the pattern shows a Christmas panel, doesn't mean you have to stick with Christmas!
Got a panel you love but aren't sure what to do with it and wanting to do more than simply just bordering it? Check out other panel centered patterns by Lisa at Bearhug Quiltworks.
Of course, hard sewing quilters need their sustenance!
Diana used her culinary skills to create this beautiful charcuterie board for all to enjoy.
It's almost too pretty to eat. AMOST!
Lola on my lap this morning.
So many comments and well wishes for our son Jason. I can't personally reply to them all, but I have read them. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We know this is going to be a long road ahead.
He sent photos yesterday of where he was camping in his converted van. And the news from him is good and positive.
He said he slept for 12 hours straight. (Fresh mountain air will do that to you when you have zero cell service, can't doom scroll on your phone and can't watch movies late into the night.)
The only reason he was able to call was that he had decided to LEAVE that campsite after a bunch of hunters rolled in early in the morning to set up their campsites - hunting season opens this weekend!
Having enough of that....he has now moved on to a state park where no hunting is allowed.
I'm waiting for the next update.
We have some leads on short term rentals in the Vancouver WA area, but are still in the research phase. Day by day things are falling into place.
It also helps to be able to stay busy somewhat.
I will likely have more info by Monday.
10 days from today that tumor will be gone. I'm keeping my focus on that.

Beautiful place to clear your mind and and enjoy some quiet time. The trees can give you good energy.
ReplyDeletePraying for your son, your family and all involved. One suggestion while you're researching housing. Sofa beds are NEVER comfortable. I have tried putting a memory foam mattress topper on them etc.... It most likely wouldn't be comfortable for your son's recovery and you and the hubster will need good sleep to be able to care for him.
ReplyDelete"Quilting is not an act of denial. It's a method of stilling the chaos."
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely correct. I get my best thinking, calmest considering, and quietest problem solving done while feeding fabric under needle and thread.
I love the concept you introduced a couple of posts ago about fabric wanting to rejoin itself, which is why "samsies" always seem to find each other despite our best attempts. It explains so much....
Wishing for you that "the worst" you're girding yourselves for turns out to be so much better than expected or hoped for,
Carolyn
Hugs and prayers for Jason. Hope you find the perfect Vrbo and his prognosis is great. The waiting is the hardest part. Sorry and best wishes!!
ReplyDeleteBonnie & Family: Hugs and prayers are being sent to you. I live by one day at a time, and one hour at a time sometimes. TG for quilting! It brings us back to present and center. You are a great inspiration! Frederica from CA
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, sending prayers for your son, for quick recovery and I pray for your husband and you and your family at this difficult time. God Bless all of you.

Prayers for Jason, you, and the whole family. Calming yourself and connecting with nature are ways to stay positive. And positive thinking can go a long way with health problems.
ReplyDeleteThere's a fun quilt shop in Vancouver (where my daughter lives) that we visited when we were there. Fiddlesticks is the name. For when you need a break :)
ReplyDeleteGood idea. Pet some fabric. Hug a bolt. And I'll bet any sewing machine shop or quilt shop would lend Bonnie a machine if she just walked in and said hi. Hopefully there's one reading these comments that has already offered. Or a local guild that has reached out. Quilters take care of their own!
DeleteMy prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. It’s so hard not to be where you need to be because of life’s commitments. Let your mind be at ease and trust the medical community who care for Jason. Blessings !!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the scary news. Wishing Jason the best out come. Family and support are the best medicine for now. Praying for all of you. I love, love this new quilt you are working on. The color speak to my soul. I love most all of your quilts. I rarely make any one else patterns. I always get so many complements. Thank you for all you do.
ReplyDeleteFilling his bucket for the road ahead. The outdoors is glorious therapy. Yay Jason! Hugs to you all.
ReplyDeletePrayers and hugs for all of you. I understand what you as a mom are emotionally going through, as I have similar feelings as my youngest was just diagnosed with MS. We hurt for our children, fear for their future, and try to be strong and positive. They may be adults, but they are still our babies. Good luck in finding just the right place to live while you care for Jason and help him heal.
ReplyDeleteJason sent some beautiful photos. Lots of prayers for all of you.❤️
ReplyDeletePraying for Jason - and sent a prayer request along with my neighbor who is a priest, as he headed to Rome yesterday for the Jubilee celebrations. Sending all the strength and good wishes for him.
ReplyDeletePraying for son and your family. Praying you find a place to stay.
ReplyDeleteSending prayers for Jason and your family. Also praying for his surgical team. May all go well and recovery be swift. Worry only about your family Bonnie...all else will still be there when you can return. Gods blessings to you. Jennie
ReplyDeleteGlad Jason is updating you. The Mountains re so pieceful. Sewing there was fun this week. I loved it. I webbed some Blocks that were on time out. Now they aren't a UFO. Fun food at the Inn. Keep sewing. It calms the crazy.
ReplyDeleteHunter Family “You Got This!” 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻🤗
ReplyDeleteI’m very sorry to hear this news . My mother had a brain tumor at 84, & my brother-in-law was diagnosed with a different type of brain tumor in 2019 at 68 just after he retired. His retirement isn’t what he expected but he’s been here to see his kids marry & his first grandchild. My sister has become a fierce advocate for him. Sending prayers for comfort & healing
ReplyDeleteDear Bonnie, My thoughts and prayers are with your son and your family at this time. Please thank your son for sending such beautiful photos. They made my day! Roxy in Hudson, WI
ReplyDeleteSending love, prayers and blessings to all of you, Bonnie.
