Thanksgiving Wishes!

Happy Thanksgiving from our home to yours!

I'm going to try to keep this as short as possible so I can enjoy our little Thanksgiving on the mountain as much as possible, with as little computer work as possible!

Our plan this year - so different than most - is to focus on SIMPLICITY.

We are planning Japanese hibachi on the Blackstone grill with steak, shrimp, veggies and fried rice.

I am excited.  Preparation is nearly nothing - the rice was made yesterday.  The remaining prep work is just slicing and dicing.

And yes, there will be pumpkin pie -

I'm looking forward to much movie watching accompanied by more hand stitching.

The plan is to queue up Hillbilly Elegy on Netflix, followed by a binge of something or other.

My brother Scott and I have a plan to video chat with Dad since we can't be together this year.  Scott is in Idaho, Dad is in Arizona, and of course I am the furthest away in Virginia.  But it will be good to see their smiling faces and hear their voices regardless.

I hope that your holiday is peaceful, uneventful, safe and secure.

And may we wish Thanksgiving 2020 a fond farewell through the rear window as we leave it in the history books.

Kicking off Mystery Season with a SewPad Special!
For those wanting to get a jump on arm chair Black Friday shopping -

I wanted to let you know that my friends at SewPad are offering FREE PRIORITY SHIPPING on SewPad orders within the USA using coupon code PEACE at checkout!

I have received emails from several folks raving over how much they loved the SewPads they ordered previously.  Some were waiting for another "free shipping" opportunity to order for husbands and more. Now is your chance!

Mystery Season brings hours, days and weeks of anticipated clues and sewing! It can cause back/hip discomfort.

We all know that quilting is a sedentary sport - and we need to take care of ourselves, so we can keep on quilting longer free from pain.

Earlier in the year we shared info on these medical grade seat cushions that are life changing for me.

This thing is a miracle. It is such a wonderful addition to my sewing studio and will cut down on my Chiropractic visits saving me money in the long run.
  • Gel Comfort Seating for Quilters!
  • 1/2” Thick Medical-Grade Gel Filled
  • Cushions & Supports Your Hips & Back
  • Sit Longer in Much Greater Comfort
  • AirMesh® Cover Keeps You Cooler
  • Feel Better at the End of the Day!
  • 100% Made in the USA

Receive free priority shipping on your SewPad order using coupon code PEACE at checkout.

Code MUST be used to take advantage of FREE PRIORITY SHIPPING.

Sale ends midnight on Monday, November 29, 2020 and is also limited to stock on hand so hurry! (If they sell out, the sale ends, so don't wait!)

Orders must be shipped to a USA address.  International shipping not available, as these weigh in at at 4 1/2 lbs of ultimate seating comfort!

This is the time to be thinking of your holiday gift-giving to quilting family members and friends.

But remember - it's not just for sewing!  Try it in the car for long trips.  When we get back to life and can attend sporting events - think of bringing it for bleacher seating.

Your body will thank you!

This has been on my mind -

This is something that has been in my thoughts for all of November as people post things that they are grateful for, hash-tagging things with gratitude, etc. (for once I'm kind of glad that Instagram has blocked recent tag reading here in the USA - but does anyone know when "recent" will be back on?)⁣
For those who are grateful and not hurting, that's wonderful.

For those who find themselves isolated, hurting, disenfranchised, financially strapped - I just want to reach out and let you know that you aren't alone.⁣
You don't have to "suck it up" and find SOMETHING to be grateful for when you aren't feeling it.⁣
Your pain is valid. Your loneliness is valid. Your fear is valid. Your thoughts are valid - you are valid just as you are.⁣
It's okay to allow yourself to feel these things. They are normal, natural responses to what is going on around you.

The important thing is that we do not set up camp and stay there forever. You'll move on when the time is right for you.⁣

And I guess I am asking that those who are effusing their abundant gratitude for innumerable blessings all over the place, please take note of those who may be a little bit sensitive through these difficult times and feeling a bit less than. Lift them if you can.

It's not that sharing of abundant blessings and your gratitude for them is bad - it's just that it can cause someone else to feel less worthy, less blessed, left behind.

I think you can get my message and what I'm trying to say here.

And just to bring some giggles to the table:

"May your stuffing be tasty. May your turkey be plump. ⁣
May your potatoes and gravy have nary a lump. ⁣
May your yams be delicious and your pies take the prize, and may your Thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs!” —Anonymous.
To all of us in the USA - Have a memorable and safe Thanksgiving so that we can look back next year, grateful to gather and never live through this kind of weird hard year again!⁣
I'll catch you here tomorrow morning for Grassy Creek, Part 1!

Much love -

  6. Happy Thanksgiving Bonnie. I'm greatful to have found you a few years ago. Our family rarely gets together for Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving day so it really isn't much different this year other than not getting together for pizza on Saturday. A Zoom meeting with my daughters is on deck this afternoon. Blessings to you and your family.

  19. It's just the two of us this year for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Very different than having everyone here and house company for 4 days. There will be pie involved. There will be a call ahead pecan pie pick up from the back of my car. I will actually start the mystery on time this year! We watched Hillbilly Elegy last night. Lots of rough language but the bonds of love between family is very touching. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

  32. Thank you Bonnie K Hunter. The thankful and being made to feel out of place for not having overwhelming thankfulness can be an issue, especially for individuals suffering with depression.
I hope to keep up with the Grassy Creek, but the husband is having fits on every move I make in life and 65 is a difficult age to make an even more difficult choice. Enough said.

  39. I just wanted to say that I really appreciated your post addressing how public focus on being thankful or expressing gratitude can make somone having a difficult time feel. It's not that expressing things things are bad in and of themselves but with the way that social media can paint an idealized picture of peoples lives and by comparidon make you feel as if your own isn't as good, so too can the expressions of gratitude or happy holiday stories make people feel more lonely, more isolated and if they are struggling that they are somehow at fault. We do need to remember those who are having a difficult time and let them know their pain is real, that they don't have to pretend to be happy, and that they are not alone in this situation. Our country is still struggling with the pandemic, people are still hurting due to lost jobs, lost loved ones and other hardships of life. We who are blessed need to reach out to those who are in need and one way is to be sensitive to their feelings. Thank-you for saying this so well. Thank-you for encouraging thoughtful behaviors from this community and I am so looking forward to the enjoyable quilty destraction of the unfolding mystery quilt project.
