That Silverlight Plug-In!

I write my posts in Windows Live Writer which allows me to do MORE with my blog than blogspot composer does.

For instance, I love to include slide shows of my workshops!

To view the slideshow--your computer, be it a Windows product or an Apple product ((computers and ipads included)), may ask you to download a plug in called SILVERLIGHT.

This is NOT a virus. In fact, for those with imacs who are reluctant to download anything -- you can find it even referenced on the Apple.com Website: The information below will tell you about the plug in and I hope you will feel safe enough to use it. I have friends and family who are also mac users, and they have NO problem with this plug in at all.

If you want to view the slide shows, it is up to you to decide to install the plug in. I won't be changing my format. It will be you that will find yourself missing out, when the fix is SO SIMPLE!

From Apple:

Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of media experiences and rich interactive applications (RIAs) for the web.

- Deliver media experiences and rich interactive applications (RIA) for the web that incorporate video, animation, interactivity, and stunning user interfaces.

- Seamless, fast installation for users, thanks to a small, on-demand, easy-to-install plug-in that is less than two megabytes (MB) and works with all leading browsers.

- Consistent experiences between Macintosh computers and Windows-based personal computers without any additional installation requirements.

- Create richer, more compelling web experiences that take greater advantage of the client for increased performance.

- Many more features.

- Support for new application types and business models.

- Dramatic video quality and performance improvements that raise the bar for creating rich Internet experiences.

- New features that dramatically improve developer productivity such as .NET RIA Services.

- Many more enhancements.

System Requirements:

Mac OS X 10.5 or later
Mac OS 10.4.8+ (PowerPC): Silverlight 1.0 only
800MHz PowerPC G4 processor, 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor, or higher
Apple Safari 3 or Firefox 2 or higher
Safari 4 (Intel only)

I hope you will consider adding the silverlight plug in! I know you won't want to miss any of the fun, and I am posting this info here so that I have a place to direct people to when I get emails asking me why they need the plug in, the safety of the plug in, etc.

If you HAVE a mac, and HAVE installed Silverlight, would you please leave a comment here letting people know how it has increased your viewing pleasure of this blog? Thanks so much!

  1. I have an iMac at home and an iPad. I've installed SilverLight. It allows me to view the slide shows Bonnie posts just the same as on my Windows machine. I've not had any problems with the installation. Go ahead and give it a try! It's much more fun viewing the pics this way.

  2. We only have macs in our house and I had no hesitancy installing Silverlight. It works great and I don't feel left out from seeing the slideshows. Thank you, Bonnie, for all the effort you put into providing them.

  3. I've installed SilverLight and have had no problems. Just do it!! And stop bothering Bonnie with such trivial problems so she can do the millions of tasks she needs to do to bring us this website which we all love. I enjoy the slide shows; so much fun seeing the different fabric combinations.

    Happy Quilting!

  4. I have an iMac, and was one of those bothering or was it asking-- Bonnie early on when she started this format using Silverlight. I have chosen to not download yet another program to view slideshows. I'm sorry if that disappoints. I just look at the thumbnails of the pictures on my iPad and widen them with the expander touch which you can do on an iPad, or iPod or iPhone. Works for me. Pictures are nice, but I also enjoy just reading what Bonnie has to say as well.

  5. Hi Bonnie,
We are an imac family and have had no issues with Silverlight. I can now see your slides (and sometimes before I couldn't...not sure why).
    No issues.

  8. I don't know any other blog that requires this plug-in and I read many. Maybe Silverlight works fine, but I have not installed any Microsoft products on any of the Apple computers I've ever owned or on my iPad and I never intend to do so. Just my personal decision!

  9. I downloaded Silverlight quite a while ago and have had no poblems on my macbook. Not sure why anyone would not want to do it, knowing that it is not a virus! It does help me to enjoy all of your beautiful photos!

  10. There's more than just windows and mac out there (I am using neither right now)...

I would so much rather have pictures as stills, slideshows and the gizmo that pans around just make nice pictures harder to look at.

  11. I have Silverlight and really don't know what to do with it. But I also am not very savy with this thing. I have pictures on it and don't know where to find them. I have never had problems seeing your slide shows. Thanks Bonnie, I also use windows live through Goodle Chorme as it is faster.
