The QPO had a visitor yesterday!
She comes around occasionally - usually when the retreat house is empty and there isn't a lot going on over there. No one to put on a show in exchange for kitty treats.
Tula Tallulah Lou will often take up residence under my car (I am always very cautious to make sure she isn't under there when I start my engine.) just watching - because she KNOWS I am in there.
We had temps in the 70s and I had opened windows and left open the back door when I saw her sneaking around just to see what she would do.
Would she come in? Or stay out?
I put out a few treats - Yeah, sorry, Tula - those were dog treats I know and not as good as the kitty treats, but it was all I had on hand there.
She came in a bit, wandered around - but when I shut the door to see what she would do if I kept her inside - she freaked.
I caved and opened the door and out she went.
Still - it was a first. She knows I am not a threat. She comes into the garage when I fix her food every morning. We've got quite the routine. But this QPO thing...she still isn't sure.
I'd love it if she would find a comfy spot and curl up for a nap while I worked, but we are a long way off from that yet.

I did get the top together!
That last seam joining the two halves was taken with much satisfaction.
And just in case you are wondering - YES. I did use Y2K fabric in here. It just never goes away.
Then came the trimming up.
And I had a bit of a slippage of the ruler accident, trimming things closer in one spot than I intended to. That binding is going to nip off a bit of points in one spot.
But I am NOT fixing it. It is a scrap quilt. It's part of the story. It's not about perfection - it never was.
At any rate - when doing trimming of this kind I use a SMALL ruler. I'm only going point to point and I can easily move a small ruler where a larger one is unwieldy. Use the right size of tool for the job.
Victory lap taken!
From the depths of the stash - 2007?
That's not "THAT" much older than the Y2K fabric! LOL! It's a weird sort of peachy pink that never went with anything. It must have been on deep discount because I had 6 yards - big enough to back the whole quilt without going scrappy.
Done deal.
Today I'll get it mounted in the long arm and start in on the quilting.
The block pattern for Square Pegs is found in my Addicted to Scraps Column in the July/Aug 2022 issue of Quiltmaker Magazine. Digital copies are available.
The full PDF pattern for my Square Pegs quilt will be available later this summer. Stay tuned.
7:30 am??? What is the retired man doing?
Someone give this man a real job because he is making me feel guilty about not cleaning and vacuuming behind the washer and dryer myself.
What's next? Behind the fridge?
I think I'll let him. LOL!
So all of yesterday was spent assembling the Square Pegs top. Other than a few things I did at the inn, I didn't leave the retreat premises until dinner time.
I'm kind of expecting the same thing today. Which is fine by me!
How are things shaping up for your Wednesday, wherever you are?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
Family is not only an important thing, it's everything.
And that goes for the family we choose to make as well.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!
My retired hubby vacuums and does the windows! Big treats for me. Oh and he takes care of the kitty litter box. Can’t beat that!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely let that retired man keep cleaning! What a gem! I've been reading your blog for a while, but what does QPO stand for?

DeleteQUILTER'S POST OFFICE... it was originally a post office and Bonnie turned it into her "office"! Please, anyone, correct me if i'm wrong... Cats in Carlsbad CA
DeleteHer office used to be the local post office, I think, so Quilting Post Office? Someone tell me if I'm correct.
DeleteQuiltville Post Office.
Deletequiltville post office, I think.
DeleteHappy Wednesday to you!
ReplyDeleteI agree, let the retired man be.
Yay, your quilt top is becoming a flimsy. It sure is beautiful.
Still raining here in south western Massachusetts. Dark and dreary.
Good day for a nap!
Have a Sparkling good day!
I really like this quilt on point! i will continue to amass little squares and wait for the pattern to arrive.
ReplyDeleteI’ve had a good chuckle here. My son-in-law moved my dryer over the Christmas holidays to clean out the vent and I don’t think I had vacuumed back there in 10 years.
ReplyDeleteLove the way this quilt is coming together! And congrats that Tallulah is getting braver about being closer to you and venturing inside. Hope the door didn’t set her back.
ReplyDeleteI spent yesterday stitching on my Embroidery Machine. No blocks were webbed or sewn. Smart to use a small ruler on those points. I love an on- point Quilt. Go Dave Go. My hubby putters in the yard and does my dishes so I can sew. Almost dogwood time in Walla Walla. My favorites. Tulips narscissa, daffodil and hyacinth are blooming now. A few Strawberries have Peas planted between. Yum.
ReplyDeleteRetired husbands are the BEST! And loving animals complete that happy home. I love hearing your voice on your short videos. Thank you for all your quilt-y insights and fun. Sharon in Texas
ReplyDeleteThat was a BIG step for Tula!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why I didn't see it before, because the line of four squares, like hanging crystals of a chandelier, took me by surprise. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI too cleaned behind the dryer yesterday, but that was because I had pulled it out to troubleshoot the reason it wasn't heating up. New part on the way! (And the innards and surrounding area roughly 5 pounds of lint lighter ).

I really like your backing fabric. More power to him, I say! I am doing the final step in webbing a top together today and can't wait to see my project together.
ReplyDeleteI think Tula is such a pretty kitty!
ReplyDeleteLove this house/schoolhouse quilt. Yummm.
ReplyDeleteha ha ha...i had a friend once who raised 5 kids; when her husband retired he followed her around the house and adamantly confronted her saying she was doing the laundry all wrong...LOL...after 30 years no less...
ReplyDeleteI love how you did your sashing with the cornerstones on the diagonals rather than each corner. It looks like strings of beads now that it's assembled. Love this so much! Can't wait to buy the pattern.
ReplyDeleteHa!! I had to think for a minute when the full name came out! Did she get another kitty? Oh, no... it's Miss Tula! But, yay! That is a huge step in her coming in to see what is going on. Maybe one day she will get used enough to the noises to curl up and sleep! I love working with a kitty close by.
ReplyDeleteKeep the hubs finding those old cobwebs... he's fine! Mine finally went back to work driving a school bus after a few years. He loves it!
Loving the new top, another great happy scrappy! Today was a crazy day, so glad to have a little bit of quiet. Have a good evening!
Peach is one of my favorite colors. That backing is lovely. Great quilt all in all. There are just sooooo many I want to do. Which first???? Hmmmmm
ReplyDeleteI love that Tula Tallulah Lou trusts you and has found her person, even though you are her "at a distance person." Keep trying with her...continue to leave the door open but don't shut it the next couple of times she wanders in. She needs that reassurance that she has a way out. Maybe the next project for the hubster is a cat door at the QPO that you can leave unlocked for her while you are in there, but lock it when you aren't (don't want other furry visitors making an appearance). If she knows she has a way to escape she will get more comfortable spending time with you in there and may find "her QPO sport."
ReplyDeleteThe utility room can't be that dirty - hubby is cleaning in his bare feet :)
ReplyDeleteMy retired fellow took over the cleaning and laundry and I let him, ha ha. Love this quilt. I save all your addicted to scraps articles and want to make a few scrappy quilts, but right now I have alot of quilt projects going on.
ReplyDeleteMy sis & I keep a 4-inch square of rug gripper by cutting mat to put under edge of rulers to prevent slipping🐣
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! I'm adopting that immediately.
DeleteCarolyn
Definitely safer to do it himself than to make a comment about noticing the dust ;) love that kitty adventure--I think these furry friends are pretty smart and she knows that being social means treats!
ReplyDeleteI have devotions for my local club later this month. I found what I wanted to use today, poems on Happiness. Today’s quote fits right in. I have it written down to use. Love how your quilt is coming together. Judy
