Over The Rail, Take Two!

It's March!

What else can we say?  One minute it is bright blue and sunny, but the wind is crazy wild, and the next minute it is cloudy and gray with the wind moving those clouds across the sky with speed that seems only possible in movies with special effects.

Whatever the case - it took us two tries on two days to get decent photos of all of the gorgeous quilts displayed by Irene's Sewciologists -

Don't believe me? Here is what happened on the sunny warm, blustery day:

Sunbeams! The sunbeams!

Every photo I took had this streak of light through it - ALL. OF. THEM.

And I didn't notice it until I went to edit them the next morning - and did I mention the wind?

Well, rats!

So the next day - it was the day of fast moving clouds and we needed to get to the porch when there was enough cloud cover that everyone wouldn't be backlit by the sun - This is what we get with a west facing porch!

The sky isn't as pretty - but at least the wind wasn't whipping the quilts around!

ChilhowieIrish Courthouse and Roll Roll Cotton Boll from String Fling.

Another Chilhowie, a cute dinosaur quilt (pattern by Elizabeth Hartman) Easy Street from MORE Adventures With Leaders & Enders, and a Ruby Jubilee (Quiltmaker Magazine) in green!

Log cabin, Bargello, On Ringo Lake and a finished churn dash top!

And as they say, sometimes Take Two is just what is needed to get the job - in this case the photos - done right!

Can you see how black the sky is to the rear right in this photo?  It wasn't but 20 minutes later and the sky opened up and photos would have been impossible -

What counts is that we got it done!

This morning the Sewciologists are on their way home to their destinations - some as far as Texas!  Others are making their way to Florida, Maryland, Kentucky and other states.

I love how Quiltville Inn has pulled friends together from every corner to connect, laugh, sew, take walks, eat yummy food (Yes, Irene does all of the cooking for her 3 retreats a year here!) and strengthen friendships.

If you are a "single" quilter without a group, please drop Irene an email at cs@cottontoquilts.com and let her know that you are interested in joining one of her retreats.

It's laundry day for me - load 1 & 2 out of 12 are already running and I am putting the finishing touches on this post from the QPO studio next door.

I've got one day to flip everything and have the house ready for Nola's Bonniacs arriving tomorrow afternoon!

If I get a chance - I'll be laying everything out today and getting ready to web this top together - that's in between loads of washer to dryer, etc.

But at any rate - the blocks are done and that makes me happy!

How about you? What is on your plate for this last Tuesday of March?

Sale ends Friday!

Price reverts to full on April 1st.

As you know, we drew our two winners for the New River Star gift-away yesterday.  I can't wait to see their projects as they make this quilt!

Get your pattern now while it is still on sale!

Timer just went off - time to go flip to the next load.

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Anger is one letter short of DANGER! It doesn't solve anything by itself.
It builds nothing, and it can destroy everything.
Some things will bring anger to motivation to make a change for the good and that can be positive.
⁣Some angers can be held inside until they fester and hurt only ourselves.

Throw that kind out, replace it with something constructive!
Vintage quilt found in North Carolina.

Have a productive Tuesday, everyone!

  7. Love that middle block on the bottom row of your "wisdom" post at the end of this email. Aren't we so fortunate that we don't have to piece tiny little pieces to make our squares? So reminds me of the depression days my Mom talked about. Thanks for your blog. I look forward to it everyday. Polly Blank
