Mach Mob Down a Holler -

Yes, there is a Puerto Rico flag hanging in front of Quiltville Inn.  And it is staying.

I put up the flag in front of Quiltville Inn before picking up family at the Charlotte Airport last week.
My Uncle Tony is from Puerto Rico, has been married to my Aunt Gail for nigh on 30 years and this was the first time I was meeting him in person.

(Before this point he was referred to as my "Invisible" Uncle Tony as I had no proof he really existed. LOL!)

The flag was a huge surprise to Uncle Tony- we didn't tell him ahead of time what we had done to welcome him to Virginia.
Tito Tony and Auntie Gail spend half of the year in Puerto Rico and the other half of the year in Florida.
The story goes that when Florida is too cold in the winter, they go to Puerto Rico to warm up!
We also got to celebrate Tony's 70th birthday while they were visiting here.
We were all concerned with hurricane Fiona hitting Puerto Rico over the the time they were here, with more flooding, loss of power, and devastation to the people who live there.

And though family has all gone home, I have decided to leave my Puerto Rican flag up in support of the people of Puerto Rico as they begin to rebuild and put their beautiful island back together.

Family Trek!

(And Tony in his Puerto Rico Shirt!)

Don't let this active photo fool you!  With my healing foot, someone's bad knees, someone else's hip problem, and someone's recovery from heart problems and other leg issues - we were quite the group! LOL!

But we got out there for short walks in nature just to restore our souls.

I've come to the conclusion it's not how far or fast you go - it's just that you GO.  Am I right?

The creak along Bear Branch Road.

This creek makes the most wonderful burble.

This is where I explained what a "Holler" is.

Basically a holler is a very narrow valley between two mountains.  Bear Branch road is a holler.

I say that a holler is way too narrow to really be considered a valley.

Autumn blooms on the hillside.

A holler is a place where the sun comes up over the mountain late and sets behind the other mountain early. After the sun sets, it’s still a couple of hours before it gets dark.

A holler is shaded by the sun being behind this mountain, or that one, for most of the day - unless it is straight up noon.

I'm so glad I got to share these mountains and hollers with my family while they were here!

There was more of this going on behind the scenes at the QPO Studio yesterday! Are you getting excited?  I am!

And yes, that rotary cutter IS closed.  It's face down on the mat, and what you see is the blade guard. Not the blade.

And yes, I am working on our Triple Treat Leader & Ender challenge while I get this year's Quiltville Winter Mystery ready for you.

How are you coming along on yours?

I spent some time yesterday cutting more of the squares/rectangles needed for the "L" portions of the block - and oh my did I cut through some OLD OLD OLD scraps.  Some mine, some gifted to me.  It's going to be such a fun quilt.

This also happened!

For fun, I brought Ditch Lilies over to the inn and put it on the queen bed in bedroom 5.

I love how it looks here!

From another angle -

And of course you saw that this week was the pattern release for Ditch Lilies!

WOW!  Just WOW!  I am so thrilled that you are liking this quilt!

If you love bear paw units, blocks that chain, and log cabin blocks - this is the quilt for you!

And yes, I know the gift-away sign up was a bit different.  My regular way of using a 3rd party app to collect names and email addresses was not working. That site must have been having issues.

So on the gift-away post you'll find a google docs form.  Just put in your name and email address.  The only thing it doesn't do is tally the total number of entries we've had so that you can see - but I can on a spreadsheet.

Please only enter once.

Susan's Quilters are In The House!

I snapped this photo as quilters began to arrive yesterday afternoon.  Our weather has been fabulous and I know they have a great retreat week ahead.

Today is also a special day as my friend Sally is driving over from Roanoke for a visit.

To add to that - the van is at the car fix-it place having the windshield replaced due to some bad rock chips that were about to spiderweb out as soon as defroster season starts - so my day will have me running home after Sally departs so that The Hubster can drive me back over there in one car to pick up the other.  It's a circus!

What do you have in store for this beautiful day? I hope something quilty gets some attention!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Gratitude helps keep things in perspective and there is so much to be grateful for.
While Jingle Bell Square was made with Christmas in mind, what other colors can you see it in?
Jingle Bell Square quilt from my book Addicted to Scraps on sale in the Quiltville Store.

Have a terrific Thursday, everyone!

  3. I'm in Minnesota but headed to a family funeral on my husband's side today in Iowa and one on my mother's side in Nebraska Saturday. These are distant enough relatives that personal grief isn't an issue, but time with family is. Nibble on my mid-arm for sale from someone living close to the Nebraska one. It would be a bonus if that got sold and I could deliver and set it up for her on the same weekend. My brand new true long arm is on its way! Really looking forward to a new adventure with a computerized true long arm. I have a pile of tops just waiting! Lots of sewing room flip-flopping (and painting the new one) to do before I can have them set it up, though.

    1. If you don't mind, why are you giving up the mid-arm machine? Does it take less room than the "true" long arm you are replacing it with?

  5. I'd love to make it in fall colors--harvest colors more than leaf colors. Living on the prairie, I love to see the colors of the crops changing. But the trees are awesome, too. There IS so much to be thankful for!
