Sunday night was for pumpkin stitchin’!
There was time to spend a couple of hours after dinner just cutting up some greys, stitching some backgrounds and stems onto these beauties.
They make me smile so much! I think I’m completely addicted!
I first started these YEARS ago. The poor few assembled pumpkins with black background have lived in the orange string bins as a forgotten UFO for I don’t know how long.
But when following an Instagram challenge to sew with a “color of the week” in an effort to annihilate some scraps, they were uncovered, resurfaced and pulled front and center.
First things first: I had to re-measure everything because I had forgotten what I was doing.
And then I had to think on settings because I remembered why these stalled out. There had to be space around them for the pumpkins to float, and I didn’t like the sashing that was my original first thought.
And then an idea hit me:
More like a whole laundry basket hit me!
What if I used these beautiful greys instead of black?? And the play began.
And as of last night, this is what I have!
And there will be more! There needs to be MANY more.
And it may get set aside while I have to tackle some other deadlines as well, but I’m not letting them get so far back in line that I forget them.
This is likely NOT how they will end up…there are other things I want to add, but there needs to be more pumpkins first.
I am SO happy to be using these beautiful gifted greys that came from you! It makes me smile to touch each piece. To press, and cut and sew. I’m still thanking you!
And we had some Quilt-Cam fun in Facebook yesterday!
Pattie watching yesterday’s Quilt-Cam Live on Facebook!
Can you see she’s got me on her phone AND on her laptop? IT WORKED! She writes:
My husband is watching with me. He says he has never seen me so excited.Upstairs on my Avante is one of your designs. Mountain Majesties, Tumblers and Strippy X. Thanks for generosity and great designs.Pattie (Danni O'Brien) from Moreno Valley, Ca
Pattie’s Scrappy Mountain Majesties from the Free Patterns Tab.
Pattie, this is so pretty in blue and yellow!
If you are on Facebook, you can still watch Quilt-Cam by going to my Quiltville Facebook Page and finding the pinned post at the top of the page. It will stay there until we do the NEXT round of Quilt-Cam scheduled for Oct 25th, 8pm. [instead of 9pm. We are going into winter hours!]
If you are NOT on Facebook, you will find it now embedded into Yesterday’s Post and archived under the Quilt-Cam tab at the top of the blog.
And I can say this. If it lags, if it stops, if my lips are not in synch, it has to do with YOUR CONNECTION not mine. This was as perfect as perfect can get with streaming from a tablet with an external camera, and we went for about 70 minutes with no problem from my end, and that makes me SO happy.
I think this Quilt-Cam - the NEXT Generation - is going to help me reach more of you where you already are, in Facebook.
If you didn’t know where to go yesterday, IF you are IN your news feed or elsewhere in Facebook at the time I go live an announcement will pop up on your screen that says “QUILTVILLE IS LIVE” and you just click that announcement or come to my page to find it.
If you are on the page too early, you might miss it because the page has to refresh to show Quilt-Cam as the newest post at the top of the page. So keep refreshing the page until it starts. It’s something new, it may take a couple of times for you to figure out how to watch, but be patient. It’s there. You just have to find it, either in your news feed or on my page.
Over 1,000 comments. WOWIE!!
This screen capture was just after our broadcast ended. I tried to get one with a smiling face, but capturing a live video as a still photo while someone is talking is always a crap shoot!
While there was no way to answer each and every comment, I want to thank you for hanging in there with me and learning something new together. It’s going to continue to be fun. And we will continue to learn. We’ll do it together.
Quiltville Quote of the Day!
This I strongly believe. There is too much of this going on.
Just create from your soul.
Vintage string quilt found in Sisters Oregon. This one did come home with me! I wish I knew who this quilter was, she knew how to sew with abandon!
Have a wonderful Monday, everyone.
love the pumpkins, I loved quilt-cam yesterday it was the best I have gotten for awhile no stopping and spinning. thanks for the mini lesson on leaders and enders I do them but this was a great reminder on how to work on same project
ReplyDeletethanks for all you do for us great tips and tricks waiting for mystery info ..
I have all the blocks made for the 2015 mystery just need the design wall free but will get there.
I watched part of the video on your blog and then on youtube - but were in sync and perfect pictures. So glad you got it all sorted out in the end and well done to your son for all his techy knowledge. Loved the pumpkins you are making :)
ReplyDeleteThanks to your inspiration, I am headed out to photograph the pumpkin patch at a local church.....the pumpkins are lined up in rows and rows for sale on the church lawn. I think that will give me inspiration on how to arrange my string pumpkins. Thank you, Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteBonnie! The greys look great with the pumpkins. Can't wait to see the final project!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Bonnie. Your quote is perfect for today for those who posted complaints -- after all the time, thought, and hard work you spent to get to be able to do Quiltcam yesterday for us -- without consideration of any of the other stuff you are doing to serve us when I am sure you would rather be enjoying your family, home, this glorius weather, and more stitching time. Perhaps you could frame that one and ensure it is visible during Quiltcam from now on. Now I better go quilt something and stop criticizing those people. (Just had to say it because it really rankled.)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that the string star quilt came home with you! The quilter is definitely an ancestor of your heart. At first I thought it must be one of yours. Good genes shining through!!! Thank you for all the effort you put into making Quilt Cam possible. There is no one I regularly sew with, and this makes all the difference. I am an only daughter and now have so many sisters, a lifelong desire, because of quiltville. Have a joyful day Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteYay for Quilt Cam, enjoyed it very much, thanks again and great pumpkins.
ReplyDeleteQuilt-cam was great yesterday, good picture and sound for me. Thanks for sticking with it, it will be worth the effort! I missed the first 20 minutes, but that was because time got away from me so I'll have to go to the archive to see what I missed.
ReplyDeleteYour new book is the best yet - I don't know how you will top it LOL.
Well, as a non-technical person I have no idea how you configurated this latest version to produce yesterday's Quilt Cam but it worked marvellously for me. I'm not on Facebook but I was able to catch it through the embedded link in your blog post. I live in the UK, woke in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep so watched Quilt Cam. Loved it, went back to bed and slept beautifully! Thank you. I don't like Hallowe'en either but loved your pumpkins! The way you have made them float is really clever. Thank you for persevering with the new technology.
ReplyDeleteQuilt Cam yesterday was so great! So glad that it can still be archived because I usually don't get to watch it live. Thanks for being such a generous member of the quilting community. I'm currently making your Smokey Mountain Stars for a friend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great clear picture and sound here in New Zealand. Thank you for all your hard work.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, I read your blog every morning before getting out of bed, it is a great start to my day. This morning I watched quiltcam on You tube, sound, picture and spending time with you in your basement was awesome. Thank you for sharing your love of quilting. Kindest regards Lenore (Australia)
ReplyDeleteLove the pumpkins, loved the Quilt cam and love how inspirational you are...
ReplyDeletePretty pumpkins and the turquoise pops in them are totally outrageous! Thanks for sharing your process in such a fun way.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to watch Quilt Cam live but did view it through the embeded link and it was very clear, so stops, starts, fuzzies - just perfect clear pixs. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSooooo cute!! Just love the gray! ♡
