15 mins of sewing....test block..

This is my 3rd post today? I wasn't going to post this until later, but I wanted to show you the mock up sample block with the music fabric. The size quilt I decided to do uses 30 12" blocks set with sashings and cornerstones.

At first, the inner star didn't show, the fabrics were too neutral...so I brought in a brighter gold for the inner star. The outer star is the black with gold music stuff, and the 2"X3.5" rectangles are the sheet music fabric.

I'm not a big novelty fabric person....but when the fabric fits the person that I'm making the quilt for, it is fun to put something in that has personal meaning for them. I can honestly say that this has the "feel" of a Bonnie quilt, but the music is my choir director all the way!

  3. I love your colors - I made the same quilt block from Jackie Robinsons pattern with Red White and blue for my son. Love the scrappy version! Keep it up!

  4. I've always loved this block and wanted to do it. I found it in block
base! It's called blackford's beauty so it is a traditional "public domain" type of block.. :c) I thought it would look great in scrappy plaids too!

  5. Love the way this one is coming together -- and what a great way to use those novelty fabrics.

  6. I don't know Bonnie - it still has that sort of scrappy look about it - and the novelty music fabric is subtle enough to be pertinent without being in your face - it's looking lovely - can't wait to see the full top

  7. Funny, I don't even consider those to be novelty prints...

You would need a fat cat playing a guitar for it to be a novelty in my book. The staff, staves & notes are like flowers or starts or polka dots/stripes to my way of thinking.

  12. I made a quilt with music fabric and found it to be pretty assertive visually. You've done a good job of balancing the fabrics so that music doesn't dominate everything.

  13. I absolutely love the sheet music fabric. You have put just the right fabrics with it that it is not overwhelming. I am not at all big on novelty fabrics, and I would not have thought "novelty fabric" at all in looking at your block. Beautiful! Bren

  16. Love the use of the music fabric, but I think using the yellow really makes the block.
