At first, the inner star didn't show, the fabrics were too neutral...so I brought in a brighter gold for the inner star. The outer star is the black with gold music stuff, and the 2"X3.5" rectangles are the sheet music fabric.

I'm not a big novelty fabric person....but when the fabric fits the person that I'm making the quilt for, it is fun to put something in that has personal meaning for them. I can honestly say that this has the "feel" of a Bonnie quilt, but the music is my choir director all the way!
Bonnie
That is such a pretty block!
ReplyDeleteI love it Bonnie! Very, very nice... classy.
ReplyDeleteI love your colors - I made the same quilt block from Jackie Robinsons pattern with Red White and blue for my son. Love the scrappy version! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI've always loved this block and wanted to do it. I found it in block
ReplyDeletebase! It's called blackford's beauty so it is a traditional "public domain" type of block.. :c) I thought it would look great in scrappy plaids too!
Bonnie
It looks good.
ReplyDeleteLove the way this one is coming together -- and what a great way to use those novelty fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI don't know Bonnie - it still has that sort of scrappy look about it - and the novelty music fabric is subtle enough to be pertinent without being in your face - it's looking lovely - can't wait to see the full top
ReplyDeleteFunny, I don't even consider those to be novelty prints...
ReplyDeleteYou would need a fat cat playing a guitar for it to be a novelty in my book. The staff, staves & notes are like flowers or starts or polka dots/stripes to my way of thinking.
I'm very impressed with this block. I think it will turn out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteWhat a talent at putting fabrics together. I love the musical notes and the way you place them to run in the blocks.
ReplyDeleteHe's going to love it, Bonnie. It looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour Blocks are looking great! How exciting to do a trunk show too!
ReplyDeleteI made a quilt with music fabric and found it to be pretty assertive visually. You've done a good job of balancing the fabrics so that music doesn't dominate everything.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the sheet music fabric. You have put just the right fabrics with it that it is not overwhelming. I am not at all big on novelty fabrics, and I would not have thought "novelty fabric" at all in looking at your block. Beautiful! Bren
ReplyDeleteAbsolute love this block and the colors!
ReplyDeleteLove how you have lined up the musical fabric so it almost looks like stripes! Very nice and very Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteLove the use of the music fabric, but I think using the yellow really makes the block.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked Blackfords Beauty and as usual, you've spiced it up just right!
ReplyDeleteI love the music block! Beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your music block, and very sad about the dog and the antique quilts! That broke my heart! Tracey
ReplyDeleteps don't overdo it, you sound very busy!
