Play Stupid Games, Win AMAZING Prizes!

Before I give a quilty update - I have a conession of utmost stupidity to make.

I took this photo this morning.  Hubster Dave and Son Jeff headed down the driveway on the tractor.

Because why?

Because last evening I drove home in the rain, was headed up the driveway as usual - electric farm gate doing its thing to let me pass...and I saw Hubster's headlights coming down.

There is no way for two cars to pass...so as I was closest to the road, I thought I would just back out and let him pass, and then I could go up...easy peasy right?

Though I was watching what I could through my rainy muddy back up camera - I couldn't see that my rear tire on the driver's side was headed for a soft hole made softer by the rain.

I got stuck in the hole!  Spin, spin, stop.

I felt so stupid!  Why do we beat ourselves up this way?  It could have happened to anyone, especially in the rain.  Hubster Dave took me up top and we left the van at the bottom of the drive, one tire in a hole, until this morning.

This morning Jeff & Casden arrived early, and the two men folk took the tractor down to use the winch to get the van out of the hole and back up to the top.

Zoey & Mabel watching the trator action through the bedroom window -

Jeff driving the freed van back up to the top!  Hooray!

It just took two men, a tractor, a pull strap and better weather than trying to do it in the rain to get it done.

Needless to say, breakfast is being cooked upstairs by said men while I type up this post.

Gettin stuck was a stupid game. Having these men in my life is an amazing prize.

Yesterday the retreat was half empty as a couple of different groups of ladies went on their way to fabric shop hop  - some going this way, others going that depending upon what they were in search of.

The Virginia quilt shop hop is going on and they were bound and determined to visit what they could!

That meant there wasn't a lot of design wall change up going on through the day.

But I love these Star Quarters happening here!

More trees are happening here.

Sudoku in wool is up over here!

Inspiration from this pattern in Quick Quilts magazine.

Someone's feeling baggy over in this corner!

These look cute, fun and useful!

Someone is going uber tiny!

Tiny block kits from Alison Glass & Guicy Guise!

I love minis!  My only problem is that they don't sew up enough fabric fast enough and I'm drowning in scraps - so I just keep sewing them up. LOL!

You just gotta love quilty friend shirt coordination!

I can hardly wait to see what they are wearing today.  This took some planning!

Did it make a dent?  Doubtful.  But I'm sure having fun trying!

I am hoping (if I counted right) That these are the last half light/half dark string blocks needed to get my current blue strings project together.

Around 3:30pm several of us headed to the back porch at the inn, with plates of crackers and cheese ball and veggies in hand.....I depapered with a bit of help from my friends and these are waiting for me to stitch big blocks together today.

Last evening - all by mkyself, home alone - and pouting about my van being stuck at the bottom of the drive, rear tire in a hole for ALL to see.

There was emotional support chocolate.

And a couple of episodes of Harry Wild on Acorn to keep me company.

A couple more evenings on this motif and it, too can go into the done pile.

Today - mid-retreat laundry, and more sewing.

It's the weekend.  I'm putting things in low gear and just plan to enjoy the next couple of days.

Got anything fun ahead for your weekend?

  1. Sorry it happened to you but it could've happened to anyone.
I finished sewing block A for Bear Branch...and cut everything (I hope)
For block B. And the border too. All this happened yesterday.

Awwww, don’t sweat it, Bonnie. Men just love the opportunity to use their heavy duty equipment. I’ve done worse! Like get my car into a hay field in a snowstorm at 11 at night and not be able to get out in 4 wheel drive!

  3. Don't feel bad about the van; it happens everywhere. My hole turned out to be a sinkhole and I got caught on the edge. Huge rain storm, and I really thought since it was a neighborhood street it was just oveflow from the sewer and would be no problem. I was wrong. Walked back home (still raining) to get hubby and we had to call a tow truck.
Such fun with the ladies' shirts!

  4. Country roads with no lights and lots of rain - been there and very scared of the ditch. It's all over now!

  7. Backing up in rain is harder on narrow driveway. Sorry you got stuck. Good rescue from the guys.
Distractions, hahaha. My garden is mine right now. Gotta take flowers in to the Fair soon, hoping they bloom on time is the problem. My Chilhowie Quilt will go also.
Have a great Weekend. I love matching shirts! And shop hops.

  8. We also have a private road where only one car can pass at a time and it gets tricky when one of the neighbors is going up and one's coming down, especially in the dark. And living in the Pacific Northwest, it's almost guaranteed to be raining too, making the back-up camera useless. Solution! We discovered that by putting a dab of Rain-X on the camera lens made it useful during those moments. We just reapply the Rain-X every couple of months and it helps to see when it's dark and raining.

Hey, at least you had some rain, think of it as a celebration of moisture.

When something like that happens, I always wonder what the conversation is between the men folk in our family - probably just as well I don't know! Daughter & I are going to lunch & out shopping - birthday cash going to her just to spend on HER. We LOVE thrift shops in our family (we raised our children that way to teach being frugal) - so I suspect that's on the agenda today. Doing this shopping/lunch day extra early as her fella is taking her away next weekend in celebration, too. She's a single mom raising our granddaughter & 2 extra girls, with no support from their families. Lots of mothers here who just turn their kids loose to fend for themselves, with no money & don't care. One of those girls was 'sofa surfing' various friends' homes from age 12! She now has her own bedroom & has had for the past year, the 2nd girl is over at our daughters home more than her 'other' home with her great-grandparents...she shares a room with our granddaughter. Her mother has 3 kids in total, receives SS for each child (father died) & none of them live with her. The other two (much younger) live with grandparents, as their mother doesn't want them either. Our daughter struggles financially but she's making it work, and all 3 girls are thriving. My hat's off to her - 3 girls at 16 are a real challenge but our daughter has the patience of Job and loves all of them.

-- It's better than the time my husband and I were in high school and "went parking," only to get stuck in the mud on the side of the road like that. Try explaining that one to your parents! No, I'm not leaving my name!! LOL
