Big quilts with many small blocks take a long time to make.
But they are like potato chips, and when they start coming together and you see how your fabrics are playing and fitting into what your vision for them was as you were planning and preparing - it's a wonderful feeling!
Winter Blues workshop day 2 commenced at noon, after a delicious brunch and everyone eager to dive in.
And as I was walking around the Quilting Quarters, I also saw the OTHER projects that were being worked on in between class times.
Holy moly! This is gorgeous!
Oh fun!
It's from the Perfect Five book by SEw Emma and uses charm packs.
Even a memory bear was made, stuffed and ready to be delivered to its recipient. These quilters are burning up the midnight oil and they keep on sewing!
Extra Chilhowie blocks became a runer ready for binding!
Workshop day 2 had us working on some strip piecing of the alternate blocks in Winter Blues.
Whoever first invented strip piecing and then subcutting - we owe our love of quilting to you!
Adding to that - whoever first came up with chain piecing after units are cut - we love you forever!
Making good use of the extra cutting table set up in the front foyer -
Machines were cruising along -
More sewing and trimming happening at every cutting spot -
Precious little strip sets with such fun fabrics!
HA! Newspaper print is perfect for the centers!
This black/white version is going to be fabulous!
Forget about keeping strips neat in their bin -
Dig, baby dig!
Little cuties!
And sweet vintage 301 machines!
And we even got out mid-afternoon for a leg stretch down Bear Branch road!
I love these troopers who came with knee replacements and limited mobility - we've got to move what we can when we can so we can sit and sew more quilts!
This happened yesterday too - in the morning before class started in the afternoon.
I finished up the Cat in the Flowers kits for my upcoming trip to France, Germany and Switzerland!
Wheels up in about 2 weeks!
Our Christmas Market tour for December is full but there are a few spots remaining in my Morocco trip happening in January!
Come spend the worst of winter weather somewhere warm with me!
June 2026 has us heading to Romania and I can't wait to discover the culture, crafts, cuisine and traditions there. It's been a dream of mine for a long time.
Evening Binding Time!
But I had to move Lola first -
She has already claimed by Stardust quilt!
I've made it down one side and have just srarted the second side - here's a glimpse at how the scrappy blue binding is playing along - I think it was the perfect choice for this supser scrappy blue string quilt and the crazy use it up backing.
Today: DAY OFF FROM CLASS! It's a free sew day for everyone as many wanted to go hit some quilt shops and do some other things on retreat.
I'm all for it. There may be another walk opportunity as well.
We'll resume Winter Blues tomorrow with demos on setting this monstrous thing on point, and fionish up on Monday with border building.
And into the weekend we go!
