Yesterday was Day One of Studio Re-do, Up-do.
Which meant, EVERYTHING on the back side of the long arm had to be moved out so that the new cubbie shelves could go back there.
First - You never know how much stuff you really have until you move.
Second - Redoing how you do things means coming face to face with it all over again.
I took this photo AFTER vacuuming. The lint bunnies had been breeding between the bins at the front and the Scrap User's System drawers at the back. Oy!
Son Jeff working his magiox with a hex wrench to put it all together.
I'm so happy that he is willing to help!
Meanwhile, enxt door -
Pay no attention the Hubster on the roof blowing out gutters.
Big rains came yesterday afternoon and I'm so glad he took care of this while the morning was nice. I just can't watch him doing any of this kind of stuff, especially after he was hit by that falling treee during hurricane Helene almost a year ago.
YAY!!
Time to place baggies in bins!
For those who don't know..I use gallon sized zip lock bags and roll my strips in bundles to fit. This keeps wrinkles away and stops edges from getting rheady and ravelly.
Here's where we are so far. I'm short a few bins - they are on order. (I didn't know how many I'd really need/want)
Bin of pinks.
The bins don't slide in/out as well as I'd like them too, but neighter then did the plastic drawers - but the SPACE! Room to breathe!
I sort by color family. Inside each bin are baggies with strips in sizes of 1 1/2'', 2''. 2 1/2'' and 3 1/2''.
I don't store strips larger than that - I'd rather cut those wider strips from fat-quarters, yardge or larger scraps.
I have enough bins that I have devided some color families even farther - my toastier tans now have their own bin instead of being lumped in whith the white/cream neutrals.
Aqua now has its own bin - not lumped in with the blues.
Yellow and orange are now stored separately, gioving them each a bit mroe breathing room.
It's not a big change from what I was doing before, but this just feels better.
But the rest of this stuff?
Jeff is going to take the old plastic drawers and use them for his tools and storage in his basement. I have moved the 3 drawer units that hold scrap squares to the right side under the cutting table. It will be easeir to put squares in the bins as I cut them.
I have several bins of shirt parts...begging me to make another quilt with shirts. Need to make a dent there.
I have piles of bigger scraps, pieces and yardage sorted by color family to be pieced into backings.
There is a large pile of blue on top of the cutting table that will be a backing for the blue string quilt I just finished - which I think has a name! Stardust!
One thing I know for sure - I am not allowed to buy more storage bins. No more bins. Sew it up or part with it. NO MORE BINS!
And this is where I was ehn this started to happen:
The Stitch Mob is here!
I was presented with a cute zipper bag full of strips! And I have an organized place to put them now -
However, I took the neutrals and cut them into squares for my current hexie project - I was needing some more variety, so instead of saving them for a later date, I'm putting them right into a quilt right now.
One more motif finished while whatching Harry Wild on Acorn.
This morning - Ivy & Lola staring it out with airplane ears.
I'm headed over to see how the Stitch Mob ladies settled in - and see what more I can tackle in the studio today.
