If there were one traditional pattern I could go back to
again and again and again and never make the same thing twice, I think that
pattern might just be a Log Cabin.
I love strong geometric designs along with the ability to
use up a bunch of random scraps and Log Cabin quilts just check all of my
boxes!
I named this quilt ‘Abundance’ due to the massive amounts of scraps I used while making the main blocks, sawtooth sashings, and the border blocks.
I focused mainly on using strips from my string buckets!
Those
scrappy strings and narrow strips?
They
are perfect for this project!

Yes, there is a Grinch in this block!
Along with my love of Log Cabins, comes my passion for foundation paper piecing which results in not only perfectly perfect blocks, but I can dig into my string bins and not have to cut individual skinny strips in odd measurements to make these blocks work.
The curved appearance of the Abundance blocks is due to the strips on the neutral side of the block being narrower than those on the colored side, resulting in an off-center block that adds a slightly scalloped design to the whole quilt layout.
The sawtooth sashings used many of the saved triangles
from doing stitch & flip snowball corners on previous projects. I was thrilled to have a project that would sew up all of those precious saved cut off corners.
Scour your scrap stash and see what you can use as far as small pieces, saved triangles, and saved strips goes.
I bound the quilt with periwinkle 2’’ cut strips for a double-fold binding that finishes at 1/4'’.
Log Cabin Love!
If you love log cabin quilts you will also love the simple scrappy paper piecing of the gently curved appearance of these blocks! 100% foundation paper pieced for scrappy perfection! Printable paper templates included.

Thank you for the chance to win! I see I'm the first entry, small chance, oh well.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been in a funk? That was me yesterday, didn't do a blessed thing. No sewing . Just folding laundry.
It's been hot hot here past few days.
I love Abundance... I need more phone books. I only have 1 small one. I've yet to make a log cabin quilt, so this will be a first. Thank you for the pattern sale. I'm off to purchase it.
Have a Sparkling day
Blessings 🙏❤️
The sawtooth border on each block makes it really special-over the top!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie. Thank you for your generous chance to win. I just love the Abundance fabrics. I'm currently working on a queen size Geese in the Cabin and like you said, not even making a dent in my stash. But I am at least using son's fabric that I've been hoarding for about 20 years. Yikes, did I just say that ?
ReplyDeleteLog cabins are some of my favorites. I need to sew more and add this one to my list! Faye G
ReplyDeleteCan this be used for a bed quilt. Seems it would be very heavy. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteLog cabins have always been a favorite of mine as well. I've made many and am using strings too. I love the sawtooth sashing and will have to figure out how to do a bunch of them - Lord knows I have a bunch of cut offs from many bindings. 40 plus years for me too. You problaly didn't buy some of the fabrics because they ended up on your porch in a bag at some point donated by a loving friend! I've had a few of those myself. I just ordered a pillowcase from Spoonflower of your fabric in white on black. Since I don't know 12 quilting friends willing to make the trip to your retreat center, I'll have to satisfy myself sleeping on your fabric! Thanks for all the scrappy things you do. I love your style. Traveled with you to Ireland last year!
ReplyDeleteLOL, I still have some of that sewing machine fabric that you used on the back.
