Pieceful Hearts, Start Your Engines!

I'm thinking back to the time when I was in my early 40s.

We had just relocated from Texas to South Carolina - It was 2003.

I was invited to drive an hour (Not a big thing when things are so spread out.) and come to a Sit & Sew day with the Pieceful Hearts Quilt Guild of North Augusta, South Carolina (Yes, right on the other side of the river from Augusta, GA!) and meet some folks.

I was new to the area. I knew no one.  But a sit n sew day to get to meet folks?  I was all in!

For years I drove that hour drive at least once a month if not more to gather with these wonderful ladies.

And here we are 22 years later - and they have been coming to retreat at Quiltville Inn for 5 years now.

How can 22 years go so quickly?

The ladies were busy stitching when I walked up the front steps and into the house. (I had to ring the old door bell as they'd locked me out! LOL!)

The joy I feel seeing projects in progress on design walls, and learning about quilts being made for great grandchildren -

Time marches on and the quilters keep quilting!

Beautiful sunflower applique happening here!

I have not seen this one opened up yet - and I can't wait!

There are some real fiber artists in this group!

Fox in progress -

This is the photo she is working from.

Look at those eyes!

And here I am playing with squares and triangles?? We each champion each other.

I always love a classic log cabin quilt!

Something fun is in the works here!

This autumn leaves quilt will be ready for fall!

Super fun Jelly Roll quilt - love the colors.

And so many cute featherweights just humming along.  It makes me smile from my toes to my nose.

Ille's handwork is always scrumptious.  I love seeing what she is working on with her woolies and embroidery embellishments.

Fantastic lunch on the porch - everyone needs a porch break!

The rain came and went throughout the day.  Luckily the big downpours were short-lived and not happening during lunch time.

The quilters are in the house - let the rain fall when it does.  As long as it doesn't pour during lunch or dinner.

Extra Exciting!  And this is for ALL folks who have been on retreat at Quiltville Inn (or would like to.)

Patty's daughter Kala has designed Quiltville Inn fabric and has it available in her Spoonflower Shop HERE.

She originally designed it just for a challenge for the Pieceful Hearts ladies while on retreat (They each received a piece to make something.) and was a bit shy about making it available for EVERYONE.

I explained that ALL of our retreaters and retreat wannabees would love to purchase some!

She's got the fun Quiltville Inn sewing notion print available in multiple colors...and I'm just thrilled that she is offering it to all of us.

And here's Kala!

My hope is that she will do well enough with this to consider designing more fun things, not just for Quiltville Inn, but for quilters in general.

Yes, I know Spoonflower can feel outside your budget, but a half-yard goes a long way.

My hope is that Quiltville Inn retreaters will use some Quiltville Inn fabric on group challenges, on little trinket retreat gifts for each other and that we will give Kala the "favorite auntie" encouragement to keep going!

Of course, I would love to see what you make with this fabric - so email me a photo!

I'll be adding a tab to Kala's Spoonflower page to the top of the blog for easy reference later.

Let's make things!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Simple doesn't mean insignificant.

That's it That's the Ted Talk.

The simple things you do today ARE significant!

Oh, and since it/s 7/11 - have a slurpy for me if you live anywhere near a 7-11!

I think the nearest one to me is a 2 hour drive.

Happy Friday, everyone!

  1. I love that you used to cross the border to go stitch with these ladies. Treasured time. I just learned one of my PNW retreat cabinmates passed away. She was a big fan and I always looked forward to seeing her Quiltville Mysteries at our Tri-City show.

  11. My chances of making it to a Quiltville Inn retreat are slim for several years, but I can buy the fabric! For sure it will appear in my next Quiltvlle project!
