Root Beer Floats and Binding!

The only thing that can get me to put my needle down and take my thimble off is the presentation of a yummy root beer float in the evening as we wind down the day.

And yes - that IS a Pepe le Pew conversation glass!

How many remember when certain fast food restaurants give these out with your meal purchase and you got to keep them?

This one was a gift for hubster Dave after he kept talking about "Remember when we had....?"

Yesterday was not much of a sewing day as the Christmas in July group checked out by 10:30 and there were about 12 loads of laundry to see to and all that goes with flipping the inn for the next group arriving today - the August Quiltvillians.

We grabbed a few friends last evening and headed to pizza (Tuesday is free senior drinks! HA!) after they and hubster Dave had spent the day kayaking the New River.  No one was in the mood to cook.

But as we are officially old folks and left at 5:30 to head to town, we were back in plenty of time for me to finish up the binding on my little Old Town quilt.

That is AFTER I finished up the root beer float!

Here she is!

I think it turned out rather cute - and today I'll put it on the coffee table in the Hen Den. After all, there are chickens and roosters in that outer red border...

And more roosters in the Poland inspired floral backing.

And with that out of the way, I've settled back into this.

As I've decided to add another diagonal row to make the hexie quilt wide enough...I'm going to need two more end fill-in pieces and since they are boring to make (all neutrals) I'm going to kick them out FIRST instead of waiting until the row is ready to put together.

It will take a few evenings...but I've got a good start on one of them here.

Zoey begging for attention with paws on my knees as I sit in my favorite hickory rocker and attempt to enjoy my morning coffee on the front porch.

"Put your phone down, mom, and pay attention to me!"

Today there are beds to make, finishing touches to put on. Quiltvillians will start showing up around 4pm.

The last loads of laundry (towels) were put in the dryer just before I left last night so I'll have that taken care of.

Pressing stations need new freezer paper.

Porch tables need to be wiped down and things need to sparkle.

Maybe I'll get some stitching time in later this afternoon before they arrive?

It's Wednesday.  Who knows.

Just a reminder:

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

I also spent some time with the garage stash yesterday trying to reconnect some solid colored pieces with their cohorts in one bin and struggling to get the lid back on.

I gave up on "she who dies with the most fabric wins" long ago, now I'm struggling to believe that "she who sews it all up before she dies wins."

But I'm having fun trying!

Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

  3. I guess "boring" is in the eye of the beholder--I find your neutrals quite fun to pore over. They're far more interesting and far-flung in topic than anything in my stash!

  4. We love floats, especially root beer floats, and having them in an awesome glass is even better. Yes, I recognized the special glass from the fast food chain. We participated in the meal purchases many years ago, and have a few different series sets all boxed up in the basement. Need to unbox and use them!
Little Old Town table topper is so cute, and so is Zoey. Happy Wednesday, Jenny

  5. I collected the Looney Tunes Glasses ar College every Friday. It was a long walk up the hill with my glasses wrapped in paper. A few got broken and replacements have been found in thrift stores. They are getting expensive. I guess fabric isn't the only thing of value in my house. The Beanie Babies were a bust. My stash has taken over the Basement. My kids call me a Hoarder. I laugh and tell them it's not hoarding if it's fabric. It's insulation. Love that Rooster fabric.

Don't know if you do alcohol but if so, try RumChata with your root beer and you will get an adult beverage that looks like a root beer float and doesn't taste like alcohol.
Love seeing the progress on the hexagons. I want to do a hand piecing project using Kaffe fabrics.
