This is the in-between retreats routine.
You know by now that my Tuesdays are full of waving everyone off, starting in on mountainous amounts of laundry and doing all of the things we have to do to make things ready for the next group of retreaters to come in on Wednesday afternoon.
It's a revolving door of whirlwind activity that isn't exactly photo worthy!
Yesterday, I was graced by helping hands of retreaters who started in on laundry loads before I arrived and you have no idea what a lift that was to my whole day! Thank you, thank you, come back any time!
What's meant to say is that I know you come back time and time again to read this page for quilting sharing, but some days not much quilting happens at all and then I struggle with things to write about.
There is a ton of life happening outside of quilting, but you know. Not everything is word-worthy.
But this is!
I have a hexie quilt update!
Click to Play:
I actually recorded this last week. I didn't remember to post it until yesterday. And last night I put the last stitches in to complete the long, long, long diagonal row.
Lola in the sunny spot. Always.
Zoey, also holding the last pieces down as I laid that last motif into place.
I was just starting this BEFORE Covid?!
It's been forever.
It still isn't half-way.
But some things are just worth the time it takes. And what else am I going to do on long flights, bus rides, train rides...
Or while thawing out in the cafe section of the boat in Iceland on our whale watching trip?
I waited until morning light this morning to lay things out to see how things will fit.
Just how long is that diagonal row anyway?
On the diagonal? About 112''
I'm going to be stitching this column in place FOREVER.
I've got my work cut out starting this evening. It's going to take....oh, a week. I think it will take a week of evening stitching to get this column added. At least 5 nights of stitching. Any bets?
My days of course will be doing all of the other necessary things that happen around here.
Son Jeff is coming this morning to mow the lawn and do the trimming.
There are towel baskets to prep and place at the ends of beds. Beds still have to be made.
Porch tables need a wipe down and the porch needs blown off from debris...
It's a full day ahead with not a lot of sewing time available until I put my feet up tonight, but it's all good!
Supervisors at the ready.
And believe me, they are always watching!
Our Abbeygate release was a hit! I'm so thrilled to hear that so many of you have been setting your scraps aside with this quilt in mind and I can't wait to see what you do with this one.

Quiltville Quote of the Day -
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has thought this out loud inside my head!
Sand Castles quilt from my book String Frenzy.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

Your Hexies project is really growing And beautiful. The pets are precious. Work day for you, sewing day and dentist day for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on the Carolina Christmas quilt. I've had it kitted up for a very long time. I thought it was time.
Have a wonderful day
Blessings 💞 🙏
I always have an EPP project or two or three to stitch on in the evening. Currently I'm working on the Haunted Hexie quilt by Verna Mosquera at The Vintage Spool. Great practice with fussy cutting.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful and you will forever remember all the work and time as you sat and hand stitched each piece on and be thankful you did it! I bought a grandmother's flower garden top at a garage sale. It isn't finished and has some extra finished flowers and a bag of hexagons. Because the flowers are different sizes I am going to have to figure out where things go, but I plant to try to finish it and will hand stitch, as the original quilter did.
ReplyDeleteLove the teal hexies and how they mingle through the quilt. It's looking great!
ReplyDeleteI've got too much going on right now to start a new project so this week I've been working on Garlic Knots as my main project and as leader/ender so I can move it along. Happy Wednesday, Jenny
I have two hexie projects currently going, a santa that is not quite half done and a hanging for my front door that also is not quite done along with a few Lucy Boston squares that are in the hand quilting stage so I can get that one laid out and put together. I also have a winter themed embroidery project that has a few more flowers to go. I need several projects going at the same time so if I run into a problem with one I can work on something else until my mind tells me how to fix the issue. I find EPP to be very relaxing and have gotten a few friends going on it also. Happy Stitching
ReplyDeleteIn addition to the quilting content of your blog, I truly enjoy life around the Hunter household and Virginia. I also very much appreciate the positive approach you have towards life challenges and occurrences. Please know that you are appreciated and loved. Cathy
ReplyDeleteTodays job is seeing if I can find backing in the stash for a queen + VanGogh inspired top, then need to find a local to my new landing place long armer....any connections in the Chicago area anyone?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't garlic knots be a great destination for all the 4 patch leaders/enders currently being created !
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you mentioned that you started this before Covid. I have been working on a grandmother's flower garden since summer of 2021. I was starting to think I wasn't getting anywhere with it, but lately I have started working on it again and there is small progress. All the flowers were made in 2021. There are 100 of them. Once I moved back to NC I have started making the joining hexies and started putting rows together. I am on row 3 of 10 now. Just keep stitchin', just keep stitchin'...
ReplyDeleteYour hexie project is coming along, Bonnie! And looking fabulous! You inspired me to start one, too. Am doing blues for the lattice instead of the aquas. I have a lot of blue scraps! Have about 20 centers done & this past week put the first corner together, of 4 centers. DH looked at it and commented, " Guess you'll have it done in about 50 years." I'm 71!!! LOL! He puts up with all the fabrics & scraps, knowing it makes me 😊.
ReplyDeleteI remember watching the hexi Quilts you made for your son's. They took forever too. How many years did your mom's hext words Quilt take. You can do this!! Cheering you on!! What nice retreaters to start the Laundry. Thanks for sharing what you can. Old Town is still on my Q20.
ReplyDeleteYour perseverance is amazing to me. All of the hexie quilts you've made are true heirlooms. The greeters on the porch are the cutest.
ReplyDeleteIt's the Hexi around the world project, it sounds like! But it's gorgeous! It seems the animals approve of it too. Today I am working on the border for my Idaho Square Dance. I wanted it done before I went back to school but life is happening so I sneak in my time when I can. Hope the ankle is healing up! Happy Stitching! :-)
