Halls, Walls & Waiting!

I put the finishing touches on every space at Quiltville Inn while waiting for the Pieceful Hearts gals to arrive from North Augusta South Carolina and beyond.

Thunderstorms in and around our area hampered and delayed their drive a bit, but luckily no rain was falling here as they began to arrive.

There were a few later stragglers that had to deal with a bit, but all are in safely!

I was so grateful for this as I sat at home working on a binding and listening to the summer thunder roll.

With this retreat - being the first one past July 4th, all of the decor needed to be changed out for SUMMER.

I put my smaller Ditch Lilies quilt on the round entry table, and hung our newly released Fireweed quilt on the wall.

Do you change up your decor with the change of seasons?

I love the more graphic optics of Licorice Twist and hung it in the Hen Den.

I love that the on-point setting gives the neutral areas a petal-shaped appearance!

This one came completely from my neutral and black string bins.  No Fat-Quarters were harmed in the making of this quilt!

And just when I think I'm getting my strings and strips under control, look what showed up in my mailbox yesterday!

These two over-stuffed mailers (I'm sure the postal person was laughing as the "flat rate" envelope was pushed to bursting!) contained a plethora of scraps and strips that I don't have in my own stash, things I've never seen before, things I can't wait to dig into!

What kind of string quilt adventure can I get myself into now?

A huge thanks to Joy in Alaska for making my day and sharing her love of scraps with me.

If you click back to THIS POST you'll find a photo of Joy as she met our train at the depot with a huge sign as we were passing through.  Best memories!

With the Pieceful Hearts gals all tucked in and dry, what is up for my day?

I'm pattern writing!

The PDF pattern for my Abbeygate quilt releases on 7/16/25.  And yes, there will be a gift-away including beautiful fabric rolls from Cotton to Quilts

I was able to get photography done yesterday in between cloud bursts.

The best thing about a rainy day?  NO SHADOWS!

And great for close up photos showing tiny quilting stitches.

Getting this quilt ready to release as a pattern has me also thinking about the NEXT tile inspired quilt.

I just can't stop with these.  The inspiration from all of the photos I've taken of church floors, pub floors, front stoops, tiled walls and ceilings, hotel lobby floors...it's all there, begging to be made into a quilt.

And I know I will want something in my hand quilting hoop by fall to carry me through the cold winter months.

Things are percolating and will come together in due time.  But first things first.

What's up for your Thursday?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

PSA: Seam rippers have little razor blades in the curve to cut your thread.

If your seam ripper is not slicing your thread easily, it may be time to retire it and get a new one.

Seam rippers go dull just like rotary blades go dull and need a replacement!

Dull seam rippers become stitch pickers and are much harder to work with.

It's an awful job, but one done best with a sharp blade in the ripper!

Have a terrific Thursday, everyone!

  3. Quiltville Inn is lovely decorated with your new quilts hanging and laying on the entry table--so inviting! I'm starting to decorate our home quilted items. I have 2 quilts hanging on a quilt ladder in the corner of the livingroom, and there's a small area in the entry way that I can hang a quilt that's less than 45" wide. I've also made a few narrow ones to hang on the door.
The overstuffed envelopes from Joy...what a sweet surprise! Have fun digging in, Jenny

The other thing about seam rippers is that many people (including me) use them with the little ball pointing up away from the fabric. I’m given to understand that the ball is supposed to go down, between the two pieces of fabric and the sharp pointy end stays visible above the fabric. This insures that the fabric below stays separated and doesn’t get cut. It takes deliberate practice to change one’s habits but my seams seem to rip faster when I do this!

You make the BEST scrappy quilts. Great use of your scraps and I love that others so willing share with you. If I did the same thing I'd have a "hot mess". LOL AH the seam ripper. I learned long ago that they definitely get dull however I have a good friend who says they don't. She, of course, argues that point while she struggles with her incredibly old seam ripper. I just snicker and keep my mouth shut. It's not worth yet another discussion. LOL Darlene

Joy told me she was going to send you strings. We have be friends forever and she is a master of charity quilts for local causes. I just quilted a fast one she put together for a police dog who had been injured and one of the places she supports is Quilts for Cops. Love the picture of her.

After having been to Quiltville Inn last year as a sub in a group, it is so fun to recognize the spaces as you trade out the quilty decor.

  8. I don't have enough things made to really change out decor... maybe I need to get cranking on it! :-)
I just love the Abbeygate! I have a plethora of blue scraps to deal with. DO you need some?! I am working on my log cabins still, hoping to get Idaho Square Dance at least into top form before heading back to school at the end of the month. (Huge gulp here... UGH!! ) HAHA!
I'm glad the new retreat group got in safe & sound. It sounds like they will have a good weekend to "burn some thread" as we say around here!
    Happy stitching everyone!
