Family, Friends & Quilts!

I got to spend some precious weekend time with this guy!

It's easy to see that Casden is not a "little boy" anymore.  He turns 9 this month! How can that be?

And at nearly nine he is busily engaged from baseball to soccer to basketball and even karate.

Time to come up to Bo-Nana's house?  Not that often.

But Saturday was the day and being the trooper that he is, he jumped right into my van with a group of quilter ladies on retreat at Quiltville Inn to go see some ponies for himself.

Water bottle? Check!

Baggie of snacks just in case he gets hungry? check!  Let's go!

You all know I take photos of brides and grooms wherever I find them - and this time it was at our overlook!  Best wishes to you both!

They got some action shots of a popped open and exploding champagne bottle, and I"m sure the photos turned out wonderful.  It was a gorgeous day.

Photo by Casden.  Great job, buddy!

At the Appalachian Trail!

Jackpot!

There were so many ponies out and about - and Casden's thoughts? "Nana - I thought you said they were SMALL!!"

This grey beast walked right over and past us, and I could see where Casden was coming from - at his height ponies ARE big.

But it was a wonderful day to be out amongst them as we hiked the trail.

And as 8 nearly 9 year olds are prone to do - it was - "Take my photo here, Nana.  Send it to my mom!"

We are doing it!

And I'm so happy we did it together, buddy.

Another Casden attempt - this one a bit wonky.  LOL!

We were told that further around the corner they had penned two mamas and newborns due to threat of coyotes who had been attacking newborns in the area.

So precious to see them nursing..

This one was one day old.  So cute!

I don't think Casden (or the quilters) will forget this day!

And neither will I!

It was a marvelous day!

Made better by being offered the licking of the brownie batter bowl once we had returned to the restreat.

Followed by some fun on the porch swing pushed by Jeff -

HIGHER!!

Out for the count on the way home.

Meanwhile at retreat - a Ghost quilt is coming together!

Stars in 1930s prints!

A tiny pieecd medallion is growing!

Old Town is happening!

More Dawn's Early Light blocks from String Frenzy  have joined the others.

This top now has borders!

Fourth of July from the Free Patterns tab is now a top for Quilts of Valor.

Lap quilt finish!

Beautiful blocks getting their sashings!

Fun conversational blocks are getting their sashings, too!

Good Fortune now has borders!

And myb Abundance log cabin quilt has borders...here i am doing the victory lap of stay stitching around the outside edge.  (Yes, with the top face down so I can watch and keep those seam allowances from flipping the wrong way.

We have a top!

And now for some backing piecing and some loading for machine quilting - so excited to get this in the machine!

Thinking this one might release as a pattern as early as August or September.  Stay tuned!

How was your weekend?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that." - Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. ⁣

Be the light for someone who needs it.

Light may be found in the phone call you make, the encouragement you offer, the laughter you share the text you send, the email with photos.⁣

Be the light - it will light you as well!

    Who cares for the ponies?

They're in Grayson Highlands State Park, so it would fall under state park's jurisdiction to care for them - either by park staff or a contractor.

Are there any state park staff left anywhere right now???

    4. It’s a *state* park (not federal), so the funding stream is different.

Trying hard to have light and bring light, but it's hard these days when all around me, I watch evil triumphing and see so many others complicit with it. Some even think it's funny, people losing jobs and money like they had it coming. Life is like an Ott light right now...true colors are showing.

As ye sow, so shall ye reap. Maintain your own peace/light and it will emanate. Those others will eventually pay their own price for their actions or thoughts toward others. How sad to be them, eh? To feel you need to drag others down to your level or that you're superior to others. All we can do is be the change we want to see in the world. =) Kathy

So hard to watch everything being destroyed and not have the ability to stop it. So hard to listen to the lies about why this is "better." I know there's light and peace in many hearts, but it's being gleefully trampled. Those who will pay the price, that day can't come fast enough.

Your grandson is adorable. They grow up so fast. It's hard for me to believe my youngest will be 15 in a couple of weeks. And the middle boy is a 21 year old Marine! I miss my 3 grandboys. So glad you got to spend time with yours this past weekend. I got to spend time with 3 of my 4 daughters celebrating my birthday. (72 years! Talk about where did the years go?!)

  11. Awe, what great photos in your post today! What a beautiful place to get married... congrats to the happy couple! I remember falling asleep just as soon as we would get on the road going home from G-ma's house. Those were good days. It looks like your little man had a great day that will not soon be forgotten!!
My weekend went way to fast. Time to head back to work tomorrow. UGH... But Easter weekend will soon be here and hopefully I can get some serious stitching time in a long with the mix of family time as well! Happy quilting! :-)
