What a Quilt Showing!

Would you like to be driving by while all of this quilty show and share is happening off the side porch at Quiltville Inn?

SO many beautiful things - some top finishes, some fully quilted and finished projects brought from last year's workshop to this year's airing of the quilts with Debbie's Bitter Bees.

And yes, all of the yellow shirts were coordinated - not the same shirt, but an effort of "Bring a yellow shirt for picture day.  I love it!

Last year's workshop was Split Nine-Patch from the Free Patterns tab. The opportunities for a plethora of arrangements are what make this traditional block so much fun.  Have you made one?

We used my Essential Triangle Tool for the half-square triangles in the quilt, but you could also easily just use your favorite method keeping in mind the unfinished and finished sizes of your desired units.

Beautiful trip around the world in springy rainbow colors with another split nine-patch in blues.

Another split nine-patch set in a big X layout!

Asymmetrical setting of equilateral triangles - not sure of the name of this pattern or the designer.  If you know it, leave it in the comments, please and thank you!

And another split nine-patch finish from last year's workshop start.  I love how different these all turned out!

A couple of cute quickies -

And I'm talking about the quilts, not the quitlers! LOL!  Strippies and bricks make great quilts when you need a gift in a hurry.  The one on the right is vintage.  So special!

Pretty pastels followed by a Happy Scrappy Houses from the Free Patterns tab. Always fun!

A very masculine quilt in West Point grey/black/gold for a special cadet. And  wonderful colorful rainbow bargello - both waiting for binding.  We ran out of time!

I'm always happy to see a gorgeous Old Town finish!

And one not to be forgotten that didn't make the porch -

This came out to show while we were working on our string pieced borders for Spanish Rose.  Strippy quilts are perfect as a quick sew-up for a baby quilt.  And I love these gentle spring colors.

We definitely filled this retreat as full as we possibly could.

And in the 5 days they were with us there was a quilt shop run, a hike up to Grayson Highlands to see the ponies, and another hike the next day on Bear Branch road - and we still had all of this time for awesome meals, loud laughter, scrumptious desserts, a 3 day workshops, and all the sewing time one could want.

This April marks the 7th anniversary since we purchased this wonderful property with the dream of turning it into a retreat where folks would return and return again.

Where the halls and walls would ring with conversation and laughter and abundant creativity.

Where friendships would strengthen and grow and deepen.

I feel like we've done that and more.

Thanks to all of you who cheered us on all throughout the past 7 years.

Miracles are everywhere. You just have to stop, pay attention and appreciate the little things.

Little things like: My lilac bushes at the top of my drive have sprouted tiny little green leaves.

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

  5. Wow! What a blog post. Love the split nine patches. Haven't made one. But the different layouts from these great quilters have certainly inspired me. Love the yellow shirts. What a fun idea. And to top it off, signs of spring and words of wisdom. What a fabulous way to start the day.

  7. I made my Split Nine Patch in 2009 for my youngest brother and his wife. (That was the year I made quilts for all of my siblings: 3 brothers and 3 sisters.)

  10. Amazing how many variations there were of the split nine patch. You'd never guess they were all made from the same block. Happy Anniversary Quiltville Inn and a Quiltville Daily Quote we should all try to practice.

  11. Oh, yes... I would LOVE to be the one driving by and seeing a beautiful porch like that! How close are you to Gatlinburg?! LOL!! We are going for our first vacation in forever in June, as soon as school gets out. We are both so looking forward to it! Another great round of ideas... but especially admired the solid gray with the stars! I immediately thought of a backing idea! Lovely split 9 patches! Great weekend... safe travels home everyone!

  12. Bonni, Sorry I'm a day late commenting on Monday's blog. Can't help but notice that Tula is sure getting "fluffy" under your good care. Also loved the quote on Monday. I try to keep my face mutual but have had several people tell me that they know exactly what I'm thinking just by looking at my face. Happy Spring. Polly Blank
