Some of This....and Hummingbirds!

Did you ever have one of those fractured days where you didn't accomplish much of anything?

Of course, you have - we all have.

But more happening here....it meant getting yesterday's blog out and doing all of the answering of emails and getting mail order out, feeding Flash and Tula at the inn, and then getting the towel baskets ready for the arrival of Nola's Bonniacs today and some other last minute things to get the inn ready -

That was almost done by 11:30am when I had to head to Jefferson to meet Dave at the bank - he was returning from getting his case removed from his right wrist (Now in a brace, yay!) in an effort to finally get our bank accounts moved to a local bank.

We'd been with Bank of America for nearly 40 years.  Personal accounts, business accounts, mortgages and all.

The nearest B of A branch to us is  close to 2 hours away.  And while we can do most of our banking online there are times when we need to go to a branch or ATM for this or that.

It was just time to be LOCAL.  And moving/closing accounts is a headache.  I think they count on that so that you won't do it.  Automatic payments need to be moved, all of the things. It's just UGH.  And yesterday was our third trip to finally get things - well - finalized.

Pink dogwood in the parking lot at the bank -

Needless to say, this cut into a huge chunk of my day and by the time I got back it was after 3pm with only 2 hours to spare before heading home to fix dinner.

This is where I have been heading for quite some time.

Worked in autumn colors of dark chocolate, caramel, rusty oranges accented by a splash of sky blue and toasty cream.

I'm calling this one Lahinch, a small seaside town in Ireland we stopped at for lunch and a walkabout after visiting the Cliffs of Moher. in June 2024.

Street signage.

Lahinch in English, Lehinch in Irish - it goes by both!

Going back through these photos - I could surely go for a bowl of seafood chowder served with wonderful dark brown soda bread! Dairygold - delicious Irish butter.  Mmmm.

Walking along the sea wall -

And yes, it was windy!

And can you see that I'm wearing my jacket? Always wear layers in Ireland in June.

I loved our time in Lahinch. I bought a wool sweater in Lahinch! And a claddagh ring. And now I'm making a commemorative tile floor inspired quilt/

I've got more work to do on the blocks before I can put more together. I needed more chocolate/neutral half-square triangles so cut those yesterday.  Today I'll sew and press and start putting more blocks together while waiting for Nola and her group to arrive from Indiana.

This also happened!

Monday evening I picked up a couple of new hummingbird feeders thinking it was about time to put them out.

Yesterday morning I made the syrup, filled the feeders and hung them out, even though it was not a very warmish day and we had rain projected all day.

Look who is visiting already!

Hummers are my favorite - they don't ask alot of us.  They don't spread bird feed everywhere, and they don't poop on my porch.

I love their little humming hellos as they swoop on by, get a quick drink and fly off into the trees.

I have been anticipating enjoying them through the summer.  It's here.  Yay!

I've got my work cut out for me today - and I'm headed over.  Son Jeff is painting the garage today and he just called to say he is already there and setting into work.

What's up for your day?

Oh, hummingbirds are my absolute favorite. Here in Ct., we won't see them for at least another month. Your new quilt is going to be another beauty.

I love the look of those hummingbird feeders! That first block of the Irish tile floor has two nearly white blocks side by side in the center - pulls the eye right in and doesn't let go. Changing banks - we did that two years ago. This past weekend we drove to Cape May, NJ, and noticed that the last toll plaza showed us that "we hadn't paid the toll" from our speedpass planted in our car window. Got home and checked it out. It was still linked to our former bank account. We quickly (online) moved it to our new bank!

  5. Your first Lahinch block is adorable! Love the mix of colors.
    The pink dogwood is gorgeous!
I have a hummingbird feeder just like yours. They're such beautiful little birds. I'm currently working with an older line of hummingbird fabric using Tula Pink's 100 Modern Quilt Blocks book.
    Happy Wednesday everyone, Jenny

If I was smart to ad a picture, I’d share my pictures of the floor in Christ in Dublin and Straw chapel in Drapperstown where my in laws were married. Guess I had better get moving with Waterford! You’re going to fast for me Bonnie! I still have to layer my Burgoyne Surranded from our February visit to Quiltville! Jean Keenan

  14. Bonnie I’m sure you know Nola’s group is fantastic and I’m a Bonniac here, however, never got to Quiltville with them. I’m one of those last minute people in July with Christmas in July group from VA beach area. This year they are bringing my fav quilt store owner Lisa with them! Hope you all have fun, enjoy, and tell those Hoosiers to make us proud!
