Son Jeff has been working his know-how and has power washed all of the flaking old paint from the cinderblock walls and has begun the big job of repainting.
Our weather was misty awful all day yesterday, so not much painting was done, but he is also prepping to repaint the garage that is next to the inn.
It's time to spruce up these two eye-sores. But we need the rain to subside before actual painting can be done.
Still - progress is progress, right?
Meanwhile in the studio -
My Abundance quilt center is together!
It spent many days on the "design floor" as I dealt with all of the other goings on happening here...but row by row over the course of many days - we have a quilt top!
I'm not stopping here. In order for all of those tiny scrappy triangles to not disappear off the edge of the quilt, I need to frame this with something darker.
But choosing just ONE border fabric will overpower all of the scrappy piecing in the center.
It needs to be something coherent - but not too different than what is already gong on.
Small courthouse steps log cabin blocks are being made for the finale on this quilt.
And this is the magic of paper piecing. I have sized them so the repeat will work with the finished size of the quilt center. (YAY! MATH!) And everything will be contained within this scrappy colorful frame.
Notice that theses are all colors only - no neutrals!
Binding color to be determined after I get this border on and see what speaks to me.
One angel on my shoulder is saying "It needs a border."
The other angel on my other shoulder is saying "Yes, it will take time to piece nearly 80 of these, but you've got time and you've got fabric that needs sewing up so just do it."
Listen to your own angels and don't let what anyone else's angels are telling them to tell you what to do.
I know this is right for what I want to see on this quilt finish. I'm excited about it.
Bonus - the strips in these border log cabin blocks are so very very close to the colored strip widths in the center log cabin blocks that it ties them in coherently. Yep.
Ivy on the deck beyond the sliding glass door.
She says "You've got this mom!"
The April Quiltvillians checked in yesterday afternoon - in the misty rain and fog that continued all day.
I'm excited to get over there and see how their night went and see what other kinds of quilty mischief we can get up to today.
High today of 74 - perhaps we can get a road hike in this afternoon?
What's up for your Thursday?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
Someone else's opinion doesn't define your reality.
They don't have all the facts. They are not you.
Go on and chase your dreams and make your decisions based on what’s good for you.
You are the one who knows why you chose what you did. Keep your eye on that goal!

DeleteAbundance is so beautiful! I love the layout design. The QPO is looking really nice with it's new paint. Your son is so good to do that.
ReplyDeleteAbundance center is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove today's quote. Jenny
Bonnie, I love your creative mind! I know I never would have thought of the court house steps block to border your gorgeous quilt. And that's where you are the super successful quilter you are and I just sit back and wonder where you get the ideas! When I have a plan in mind whether it's for a quilt or a new direction in my life, I get opinions on how I should proceed. Even though I welcome and listen to other's opinions, the direction I take is mine, solely mine. Most times I do what I've planned, other times I see the wisdom and creativity in others and take their advice. To me, that's the beauty of having valued friends that I can trust. Now, if anyone gets critical of my plan or my idea and throws negativity at me, I shut down and change the subject. But I'm dealing with people in person. You're dealing with opinions here. Know that you and your work are loved, respected, and maybe a little bit envied too. I absolutely love reading your blog every morning and though I don't post often, each and every quilt I've watched you make here is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove that you have Quilt Angels. Follow your own Muse. Use It up! Yea for the Son taking charge while dad is recuperating. I agree no Quilt block needed on that Oult Post Office. Enjoy your hike
