In A Deep Freeze!

Brrrrr!  That's about all I have to say for this next couple of days.

This was my view of Quiltville Inn as we rounded the corner yesterday - it looks peaceful, but boy is it cold.

This morning is our coldest yet - it was 15f this morning with a high of 17f expected.  Tonight's low overnight? 8.

You better believe that those sinks will be left dripping!

We had already parked both vehicles down at the bottom of the drive, neighbor Barbara offering up a piece of her parking area for the van.

Come with me on our morning RZR shuttle trip down to the bottom with the plow engaged:

All the way down!

But we needed to get to the inn to check on the ladies.  Here are some things we saw on our way:

It's kind of a vehicle cluster at the bottom of the drive.

But we should be back into the 40s by the weekend and things will thaw and we'll be able to park at the top again.  It's always an adventure.

As we came down the mountain to lower elevations, we saw that they didn't have as much snow and ice as we did up top.

I love the old red barns...

In the warmth of the Quilting Quarters, the quilters have been busy!

While my own Old Town hangs in the foyer - many are making their own versions!

It's so fun to see the chosen fabrics!

This oldie but goodie is coming together.  This pattern is my Hunter’s String Star.  Always love a good red and white quilt - but this one is grand in any colorway, even scrappy rainbow everything.

Love how this is coming together!

Something fun is happening here - I love the plum fabrics.

This reminds me of the bare branches outside -

Sampler just shouts spring!

1930s cuteness!  Machine quilting happening -

Lovely Burgoyne Surrounded blocks -

Ready to add borders!

It's great having the house full and bustling again.  I'm glad this group was able to shift their dates to come early and be all settled in before the snow began.

We are hoping for Over The Porch Rail photos tomorrow afternoon, but it is all going to be weather depending, of course.

As for me - I've been feeling kind of Grinchy.

I did my best to keep news off and just sing along as the music played my favorite 70s-70s-80s songs and drown myself in paper piecing log cabin blocks.

Everything goes in these, and I mean EVERYTHING.

This is how Grinch ended up. Can you see him?

Here's another.

Remember when I first coined the phrase "If it's still ugly you just haven't cut it small enough?"

These blocks prove it's completely absolutely and abundantly true.

And there is no such thing as "That doesn't go with that."  Yes. Yes it does.

This morning from the front porch.

It may have been only 15f degrees but at least the sun is doing its darndest to come out and shine.

Today will be more of the same.

Fun visits with the ladies, perhaps enjoying a hot cuppa in the Hen Den with the fire in the gas stove going.

More log cabin blocks.  Honestly, I do not believe they are making a dent and I need about 30 more to get the job done.  That wont make a dent either.

At this point - all I can say is at least it is keeping me out of the bars! LOL!

And for what it's worth - Russia invaded Ukraine and started this war. Not the other way around. The gaslighting is so thick right now I just shake my head until I cant see straight.

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

I've been failing at this daily for the past several weeks.

How about you?

Have a terrific Thursday, everyone -

  2. I agree Bonnie. I have a hard time keeping quiet these days. I hope those who voted for him are beginning to see what the rest of us already knew.

Sadly, I doubt they are. They think this is the "great America" they bragged about creating. They're celebrating sticking it to everyone. Cheering as things fall apart. Encouraging this. Pardoned prisoners are getting in trouble already. Absolutely horrible behavior at the top and making it "OK" to lie, cheat, steal, bully, steamroll, whatever you want, has brought out the worst in the worst of them. They don't care what happens to anyone else and they'll never admit they are wrong. I don't know when or how this will end... Keep speaking out against it and remembering that you and millions of others would never think or act that way. If there's any justice in the universe, the terrible people will someday have to answer for what they've done, while the rest enjoy glory.

Yes Bonnie these are really scary times. I’m in total agreement with you. Thank god we have our needlework to attempt to block out the idiots.

  7. I find myself looking for things that make me happy- this week it's the local deer herd-up to 10 now- who are running through the neighborhood every day. So fun to watch! And it gives me a moment of peace. I am loving these log cabin blocks too! The Grinch especially!

  10. Sadly, it is not being reported widely, the bodies of the Bibas family were returned by the terrorists, Hamas. Two babies and their mother. Typical show, masked terrorists. They treat it as a festival. There was a booth when kids could try weapons. They celebrate, we mourn.

It is a FILTHY nasty war, tens of thousands of Palestinian women and children dead as well. I am steadfast in the belief Gaza is not the appropriate place for "golden" hotels and casinos.

Still cold here, too! Three above this morning, so better than -9F yesterday. Not getting much quilting done due to too much watching the news and posting reactions on Facebook. Need to get SOMETHING done around the house instead. Found out yesterday that two of the main places I volunteer, the National Park Service and AARP Taxaide (volunteers preparing taxes for free for seniors and low income people) are cutting the programs due to frozen appropriations. Our Taxaide sites are still open because we work out of libraries and Community Centers that let us use space for free, but sites that have to pay rent are closing, due to the frozen funds. Not for sure, but the interpretive program for the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area that I started volunteering for last year has already had a freeze on training new volunteers and now sounds like is in immanent danger of being cut completely for this summer. I need to get downstairs and quilt before my head explodes!

The types of important and necessary places that are getting their funding cut is mind-boggling. Meanwhile, we can somehow afford to fly a jet, the armored cars, and an entire security detail to Daytona so that someone can take a ego-stroking victory lap around the racetrack...

One must speak up when the world is crashing around us. I remember you Hearts for Ukraine effort when Russia attacked Ukraine. I spearheaded an endeavor in our Guild and ended up with 17 quilts for refugees in Poland. I still have a Ukraine flag on our flagpole in our front yard and encourage others to do the same. As Joyce Carol Vance writes, "We are in this together."

I took a class years ago at pigeon forge and have been meaning to come retreat with you! Looks wonderful! Although I remain amazed at how fooled people were i am equally amazed they are surprised by what's happening! I do see people awakening to the realities but it's too late. So I just quilt faster! It's a stress rescue! Let's all keep up the beautiful work! Arlene

BTW it is even colder here today than where you are. Nonetheless I will be going out to meet an old friend visiting from Austin. We will have lunch and visit a quilt store. Just need to be bundled up.

  15. Your site is "go to" every morning. Our world is upside down. No relief in sight. I hide in my sewing room where I can wait for a better world to return. BTW Taxes done by AARP volunteers here - building provided by local health dept So grateful for that

It is -5 degrees here in the Kansas City area, actual temp. We had the snow on Tuesday before it came your way. I will be staying inside and handstitching binding down today. I enjoyed seeing your video and snow pics. Love your posts!

  17. We cannot stay quiet - it could be confused with complicity. Gaslighting about Ukraine starting the war, when it was Putin's invasion of a sovereign nation and having to defend themselves - wow. Just wow. I stand with Ukraine.

  29. I end each day thinking it's one day closer to him being out of office, though I fear the destruction he'll leave behind. Living in the 518 of upstate NY, Elise Stefanik country, I so often feel surrounded by his believers. Reading your words and those of others, such as Mary Engelbreit, makes me feel not only less alone but hopeful we'll survive. When he was elected the first time I cried for 3 days. Now I'm just going to be angry for 4 years.Thank you, Bonnie, for speaking out.

  30. I've been feeling Grinchy lately too! Mostly because I'm not sewing enough! I would love to hide out in my room and not come out. But, nothing would get done outside. I just love your winter wonderland; and I'm glad you got some sunshine. Ours has been MIA the last few days! HA!! I'm loving what is coming out of the retreaters... I can't wait to see the group shots! :)
    Happy sewing!

Those plum fabrics with the seashells are from a designer at Moda who lives here in Maine not far from me. Sweet Fire Road. She is a sweet talented person and I got to meet her at a local retreat.
