And Off They Go -

This morning I am waving a fond farewell and wishing safe travels to the Naughty Room Quilters who have brightened everywhere they've been in the past week!

It has been WONDERFUL!

Usually with every group there is someone I've met on my way - either through teaching for their local guild, or a show, or a lecture - or perhaps even an international trip.

There are several of these ladies that I've known from other occasions in other places, and to be able to open this lovely old home for them has been such an honor.

Shirt deboning!

There was a prize for the first one done.

It had been a while since I have cut apart a shirt - and oh, the feel of the fabric in my hands - and a pair of good, sharp shears.

I'm getting that hankering again!  I loved making Sugar Top earlier this year using those lovely shirt fabrics.  I'm wanting to dive right back in to that shirt bin and make something warm, cozy and very plaid!

I do believe that everyone shared parts of their shirts with each other so they are well on their way to enough variety to start something.

I grabbed a few design wall shots before heading home yesterday afternoon. Progress has been made, and I had a great time teaching Jared Takes a Wife (Free Patterns tab) to this lovely group of women.

Noemi's blocks are coming along!

I started a small projected of my own yesterday.

I was doing a clean up of my cutting table - and I had the demo pieces for Rocky Road to Grayson right there - I only needed to sew on some yellow background triangles onto a few of the units, and then decide what to make with it!

I'll share what it came out to be in tomorrow's post - but in the mean time:

This quilt was so much fun to make!

The consistent placement of the red star points in the sashings also make this quilt look a bit more color-planned.  All of the yellow backgrounds add an air of scrappiness but they still read as ONE color.

And while the neutral strips in the sashings are random - the blue sashings come from one constant fabric.  Also another way to give a quilt a sense of a planned outcome.

It just works!  

I used the Creative Grids 45 degree ruler to trim my string pieced units.

I printed my block quarter templates on Carol Doak’s Foundation Paper.

The laundry race begins this morning as we get the Naughty Room girls out on the road.  Housekeeper Susan will be here at noon to start putting things right - The Stitch Mob girls are already on their way, hitting Hamilton Missouri yesterday for some shop hopping at Missouri Star Quilt Company - they will roll in to Mouth of Wilson, Virginia after lunch time tomorrow.

And here we go again!
