My world became winter white starting around midnight on Friday morning.
Not that I was awake to see it all start - I didn't catch it until daylight's arrival. Stretching and yawning, opening the window blinds to find that my world had taken on a snow globe appearance.
And it continued to fall all day long.
There is something to be said for the joy of a snow day - even a snowed in weekend - when you don't have to worry about catching a flight out anywhere.
By afternoon it was still coming down. Click to Play:
That pork tenderloin I talked about? I gave up on the crock pot idea and went for the air fryer instead:
And simple! Not a recipe really - I started with a pre-marinated and garlic & herb seasoned tenderloin.
I removed the tenderloin from the package, and coated it with about 1 tablespoon of olive oil to prevent drying out.
I cut it into two pieces so it would fit the air fryer basket. Preheat the air fryer at 400 degrees for about 5 minutes. Place the tenderloin pieces in the basket. Cook at 400 for about another 20 minutes. until internal temperature reaches 145-160 degrees.
Let tenderloin rest on cutting board for about 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
That was it. It was AMAZING.
I served it up with baked sweet potatoes, steamed broccoli and a salad.
I am THRILLED with your response to Grassy Creek. Seriously overwhelmed by encouraging replies after our reveal.
I wanted to do a quilt with a more "masculine" feel. One that wasn't overrun with neutrals (as seems to be with all things modern) yet have a contemporary appearance. I think we achieved that!
I also wanted something with a bit of an autumn feel - our fall here this year was just splendiferous - so much color! And to be HOME to enjoy it was one of the greatest blessings (or side effects?!) of 2020 for me.
I really did throw everything into this quilt as long as it fit the color families we were using. One of my favorite sashings has a Halloween spider on it - Spiders are a sign of good luck, and I felt it only appropriate to throw that in the mix. Along with fire fighting Dalmatians of course!
I love little fabric surprises that aren't really noticeable until you get up close and personal with a quilt.
A side joy to this layout?
In between the churn dash blocks in the bottom row - do you see hearts? Look closely!
Do you see it now?
I didn't notice them until it was coming off the quilting machine - and I know that we all put our hearts into everything we make.
Here they are right at the edge of the quilt, all the way around.
This morning's sunrise through an ice covered rain chain.
It's 23 degrees on the mountain as I type up this post. We have a high of 29 expected today.
I have nowhere I need to go, no place I need to be than right here where I am.
I have a quilt in progress, Netflix to watch - happy and healthy and warm inside.
Today I am full of gratitude for little things.
That's my focus through the weekend.
Small Joys.
And that bird feeder is going to need more seed.
How about your weekend where you are?
Are you working on putting your own Grassy Creek quilt together?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
If there is no growth without struggle we should be growing leaps and bounds by now!
Looking forward to a very snow covered sunny day ahead.
I'm spending Caturday in the quilt studio playing with cutting fabric and sewing it all back together.
I'll catch you back here on Monday - have a wonderful weekend!
The snow is beautiful. We have not yet had any snow here in St Louis this year. Yesterday I made two of The Grassy Creek blocks and I really like the way they look. Thank you, Bonnie. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful day in the neighbourhood : ) The birds have been busy there. I love watching our feeders and the variety of birds we see. A downy woodpecker is our newest visitor at the suet.
ReplyDeleteWe are celebrating a grandson's birthday and a late Christmas with daughter and family, just 6 of us. I was up at 5 this morning and working on the mystery. I hope to get it together this weekend, but maybe not the borders yet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous place you live in! I miss the look of snow but not having to shovel it....lol. Grew up in South Dakota and live in Georgia now. Thank you for the wonderful mystery quilt! I look forward to them every year! I love the challenges you give us to be better piecers. Thank you again.
ReplyDeleteMy day is reserved for sewing my mystery blocks and I'm so excited to see how mine will look! Thank you for this wonderfully fun project! You have made covid lockdown times more bearable for all of us!
ReplyDeleteGrassy Creek is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you so very much and enjoy your Caterday! Love you, girl! ❤️
ReplyDeletewhen i read 5 yards of gray fabric for Grassy Creek, i though it would be a bit somber and quiet... HA! ha ha I say! The grays fade, the vibrant colors take first place and I'm just on #3, so have a way to go, but loving how colorful GC is! Enjoying, vicariously, the snow, it IS beautiful... and i don't have to shovel or drive in it! Again, health & happiness and thanks you, Bonnie. Cats in Carlsbad CA
ReplyDeleteGood morning Bonnie! We’re putting Christmas away this weekend. Then I plan on putting together at least a couple of blocks. I chose to do Christmas colors for this mystery. Hopefully it will do justice to your fabulous pattern. Thank you so much for everything you do for us. Enjoy your weekend hunkering down in the mountains doing whatever you want. ❤️
ReplyDeleteI have been out of town since the reveal and I am anxious to get home this evening to work on my Grassy Creek! I am glad you are not feeling so down because of the nit wit comments!! Forget them, pick yourself up, straighten your crown and carry on. You are more lovedand admired then you know!! Enjoy your weekend!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful quilt! The snow looks lovely. Glad you have it and not me. LOL Thank you for the recipe for the roast. I have a new air fryer that is upright with racks. I am going to try this. It looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved snowy days! So peaceful. I used to pray for them when I was still teaching. Don't get me wrong; I loved teaching and the kids but it gets to be a grind when you have to get up at 5:30 in the morning every day.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.
Love the snow pictures, so peaceful and pristine! Have a great weekend 'chilling' in your favorite way.
ReplyDeleteYour snow video was beautiful and you are so blessed to be comfy and cozy for the weekend. I will be working some more on my #Grassy Creek clues, no rush, just a steady pace. Arkansas is been getting some snow (light) for Sunday night and Monday - we will see. It will not be as spectacular as yours. I am finding peace in the turmoil because I know who is in control.
ReplyDeleteThat unspoiled, quietness. Almost the world washing away the hate of the last few days. I know it will take more than that, but it gives me hope. Hugs for a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteSooo envious. We want more snow as our last snow is now dirty and it needs some freshing up!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your beautifully peaceful snowy weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhen I finally found the heart I wondered how i missed it the other times I looked for it. I am still working on my epp hexie wreath that I saw on pinterest. No pattern and I needed to make it smaller to fit where I want it and the bow is becoming a challenge. Lots of quality time with my little seam ripper. Mu printer is only black and white so sometimes it was difficult to print as it is not the greatest quality of print but I usually don't need good print. With everything that is going on in our nation this week I needed something to work on that I am enjoying even if i need to rip and restitch it's fine as the hexies are only 1/2" so they are quick to take apart Happy Weekend to all who reads the greatest blog there is and a special thanks to Bonnie for giving of her time and knowledge so generously.
ReplyDeleteI love waking up to total silence and knowing it snowed during the night. So peaceful, especially if the wind stays down. Here in Nebr. any day without wind is a treat in itself. If I hear the wind I just want to roll over & go back to sleep.
ReplyDeleteAlways serene to see an undisturbed field of snow. Peaceful and just what is needed for a snow day/Sew day weekend. The tenderloin looks delicious. I loved seeing the hearts all around the outer part of the Grassy Creek Mystery. We need all the Love we can give or get! Much Thanks and gratitude to you!!!
ReplyDeleteNow I really want an airfryer. Could you tell me what brand you have snd the size? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful, love the hearts! Apropos given the events of this week. I've saved all the instructions as I still have 3 mystery quilts in various states of completion. This week I finished Step 3 of On Ringo Lake!
ReplyDeleteI’m happy to look at your snow from the warmth of my living room. It is beautiful, but I hate the cold! Guess that’s why I’ve never left Texas. However, they are predicting 6-8 inches of snow for central texas tomorrow.🙁. We’ll see if that happens..it usually turns to ice instead. Have a wonderful weekend everyone! I will not be leaving the house. Trying to get 2 quilts webbed, so hoping to get some progress done on those.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the recipe! Am anxious to try it. This Saturday I will be working on the assembly of the mystery quilt. Still pretty chilly out in Oklahoma so sounds like a good thing to do! Thanx for all you do Bonnie!!
ReplyDeleteI love all of your snow pictures. Watching the video of the falling snow transported me to my walks on those wonderful bygone days when I could actually hear the snowflakes falling. People here in CA don't believe me when I say that but it's true. Thank you so much for lightening my heart today.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that you have spiders in your quilt - I had some orange with black spiders -- had to include it!!! Love this pattern - thank you for all you do!! Enjoy your media free Sunday
ReplyDeleteCan hardly wait for my grassy creek to be finished. Here in montana close to the crow Indian reservation we have some darker greens thanks to the georgios pine trees in our mtns in the distance so some darker greens also. This has been a FUN project. Thank you. Linda b
ReplyDeletelove the view out the windows.....the snow is so pretty........
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your little slice of heaven. You take and post such beautiful pictures! Today we went and did some furniture shopping before the weather took a slight dip tonight into tomorrow. I plan on putting together one block of Grassy Creek, and then I will continue to work on the pieces. I always love the reveals, though I feel sad at the end of them because there are no more surprises on Fridays. :( I think it will go perfectly with the new couch that we picked out today. Hopefully I will get it done before it comes in. That tenderloin sure looked good. We have a pot of soup in store for tomorrow, not yet sure what is on tap for tonight as we have company on the property. Have a good evening/ weekend! <3
ReplyDeleteSame temperature here in Michigan but the sun melted my snow. :( I am sad I don't get to start the last step of this beautiful quilt today. Unfortunately major nausea from pregnancy and watching my potty training son filled my day. He is going to bed soon but alas, I'm out of juice. Good thing hubby has our son tomorrow so yay!!!! Although there is no hurry I am excited to get going. Yay strings!!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteEvening Bonnie - couldn't find any other way to contact you but wanted to let you know!
ReplyDeleteOrdered Jan 4th, received PDF same day, received ruler today. One happy camper here, been wanting that ruler for years and have had saved for that long the URL for the video showing how to use it.
Sometimes it pays to wait until after a potential rush on an item, especially after the release of the Mystery QAL or a new book. Now, if only I could get into my sewing room - it's a pigsty in there.
Thanks Bonnie - Brenda
Thank you for the reveal. Enjoy your snow! It is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreetings All (especially Bonnie!) - That pork loin looks incredibly delicious! When they were giving out common sense in cooking - well, I was in the wrong line so to speak. I would deeply appreciate any hints and suggestions as to how to cook such a pork loin in a crock pot. Can I put veggies such as red potatoes, sliced carrots, onions, and mushrooms in with the pork? Thank you for any hints and please enjoy a few giggles for me! Many Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletePerfect timing for the recipe! I had been wishy washy on whether to buy one but yesterday I finally committed. Your recipe will be the first to try since I have a pork loin in the freezer which I'll take out today. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all you do. Thanks for all you share. I LOVE the look of the Grassy Creek quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteYou see hearts on the quilt I see Santa. Look at the block at the very bottom of your post above the word “is”. Don’t you see a red Santa hat and beard. With a little tweaking you have a perfect Santa.
ReplyDeleteHere we are in southern Connecticut by the shore and no snow and none coming!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful, peaceful place you have there! Sew away the day!
ReplyDeleteI also love to through surprises in my quilts! I have Betty Boop, frogs, chickens, dogs and cats! The hearts are fun. I am looking forward to seeing mine come together!
