Midnight Observations...
I just got done reading all the comments! Oh you guys! I didn't make my post below in a "woe is me" kind of way. I'm happy with the quilting I do. Honest I am!
It was just weird thoughts I'd had since Saturday...where there I was hand quilting on my scrappy scrappy Charlotte's Baskets quilt, with a gammill with a statler stitching its self into a frenzy to the right of me, gorgeous glorious machine quilting to the left of me...and hardly ANYTHING in the hand quilting category, I know that is dwindling, and that is the one thing that makes me so sad.
It was just observations, no conclusions drawn, no "oh please say nice things about my quilting and make me feel better" kind of post. I love what I do and I'll keep on doing it. I appreciate your thoughts and your listening.
As to what I'm doing up at 3:30am?? Heck if I know! Hot flashes maybe? (oh joy, isn't THIS fun?!) I think Chloe commiserates on the hotflashes too...just look at all this fur!(I love her pink belly...so soft!) Actually, she is doing well, she and Oscar are playing a bit and she often flops over like this for me to give her belly tickles. Good swiffer girl!
I'm dreaming of doing a strippy crazy amishy type thing with lots of solids in all colors with hand quilting all in black thread.....maybe now is when I get started!

I hear ya. When I was in a shop last year showing them the project I was hand quilting they all said how rarely they see it anymore. very sad.
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteI thought you would appreciate the "fabric wrapped goodies." The lotion is handmade. The boys custom make scents.Just so you know, I do think I am the "worlds most famous talk show host." LOL
You are sooo welcome.
Best Wishes
Lori : )

ReplyDeletejust went to the quilt show in Sydney and its the same here with hand quilting, although there are a lot of awards for hand quilting and also now master quilting etc.. but I always like to check out the hand quilted quilts..
I love your furry puss puss too, my cat is just as furry and its a pain for them in summer, although Cosmo will get his tummy shaved this summer, as Australian Summers are awful if you are wearing a fur coat! LOL we kept the a/c on last year when we were out so the cat was cool!
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI just came upon your site last week and am so enjoying everything. Just yesterday I put your "quips and snips" on my bloglines, so I can keep up on what your blogging about. I wrote in my blog yesterday that what I like about your site is how you share your knowledge and your love of quilting, as well as the real sense of community (much like that with the knitting world I love too).
You mentioned doing an amishy type quilt and I wondered what book you have open in the picture there.
Thanks!

I love your work! Its so beautiful! and I would love to learn how to hand quilt, but I don't know if I really have the patience for it, I tend to get easily distracted :)
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteI totally love your Chloe. Is she licking that fur-free patch? Maybe she is still nervous.
I too am a hand quilter who occasionally machine quilts. I am still learning the mq'ing and like to not add too much as I like a cuddly quilt not a stiff one.
XOXOXO
Subee
Oh a true ragdoll if ever there was one~! Is that the place where they shaved her from the matts? It should take long to grow back if it is, Pixel looked the same after his surgery.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the hand quilting, I think it's the time involved that scares people off.
Bonnie, I have all my solids sorted and my black fabric ready. When do we start. I have been toying with that idea for ages. I guess you are rubbing off on me. I have a few irons in the fire right now that I blogged about so I have to finish them first. Hugs

Bonnie, I must put my 2 cents worth in, I to love the look of hand quilting, but I think machine quilts are as special. But one question, what are the people that have handicaps ( Arthriris for one ) supposed to do... without a machine I ceratinly couldn't quilt any kind of quilt, and as I enjoy trying to quilt my own, I would be in dire straits.... So I think we all do what we like and some of us what we can... Keep on making yourself happy, thats what its all about... Bobbin
ReplyDeletePS: I love your quilts!
You're entitled to your own Woe is Me moment, but that's all. Enough. I didn't have ONE THING in the show either, and felt guilty about that but snapped out of it pretty quickly when I began to count my blessings, gifts, talents and friends... like YOU! I am going to strive to be the best machine quilter that I can be, if that's not good enough for any judge I don't care... I know if it's good enough for me then it's good enough. Happy to have you in our guilds AND in my Bee! Now, let's talk about everything that you have going on in your life... :) And no, I want my book Bonnie-graphed, thank you, no STAMPED facsimile of your autograph!!
ReplyDeleteIt usually takes me about 6 months to handquilt a Q-sized quilt. I once did a twin-sized in 48 hrs (I counted my hours since I was on a deadline.) My hands/wrists hurt from that experience. I also have arthritis in my hands, but the dr said to keep handquilting to keep my fingers limber. I'm only 41. THAT's another reason why I get my quilts machine-quilted. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of quilting it in black thread. Sounds yummy.

I truly believe you when you say your previous post was not a "woe is me, make me feel better" post...but I'd like to say, for the record, even it if were, there's nothing wrong with needing a little cheering up! :)
ReplyDeleteHand quilting is soothing to the sole,it is portable and keeps your knees warm, hahah. Oooh a Amish quilt is this your new quilt along with the blogging world?????? Happy stitching
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you are feeling "the blues". I think it will pass when you see how valuable and "updated" you are to so many of us out here in cyberland. Things do change and it is sometimes hard to change with them. I, personally, am adjusting to the "new way" of doing things and as one lady said, my fingers hurt too much with the hand quilting now so I send out my best babies.........the other's I try to machine quilt myself. I think quilting has evolved to include a lot of artist's now and art involves so many different expressions............we really can chose what we like! AND, I chose your style. Thanks for such an interestin blog.....
ReplyDeleteI AM INTERESTED IN THAT OPEN BOOK YOU HAVE. WHAT IS THE TITLE. EMAIL ADDRESS: stinberg@mac.com
ReplyDeleteLOL at your cat - got one in chocolate who loves lying the same way - they would be a good pair! Love what you do, thanks for sharing with us fellow crafters :)
