Evening Edition, Free Kindle Book ((From a Quilting Author!))

This is really exciting!

I received an email from Kristine Rolofson to let me know about a free ebook she has over at Amazon right now!

I finished the latest book I’d been reading, so I was very excited to find something sweet and easy to fill my late evening hours while up at the cabin.

We bid farewell to QuiltVilla late this afternoon.

 

It will be a couple of weeks before I can make it back up there again.

 

The sign over the side door that leads into the kitchen says There’s No Place Like Home.  And more and more the cabin IS feeling like home to me.  Can’t wait to send some more time up there.  And it is SO NICE that I can get there in 1.5 hours.  Or get home here in the same.  It’s a short jaunt up the road, but a world away.

Labor Day Yard Sale!

Happy Labor Day, 2013 Everyone!
 
If you are new linking up with us for Yard Sales, there are a few rules.
 
These items need to be QUILT RELATED. Patterns, Books, Fabric, Notions, Partial UFOs…whatever you want. This is for gently used –white elephant type items, not new-sell-at-retail-stuff or new crafts you have made to sell.. Understood? Think YARD SALE.
 
And you MUST have a blog to list items for sale.

You can not just link to an Etsy store...we want it more personal than that. Etsy is great as a shopping cart, but please link to your own  blog below. Your own post can direct to Etsy from there.
 
You must link your blog post back to THIS POST URL not just my whole blog --

 
You write the post on your blog, you come back here and link it up. It is up to you to decide how you are going to interact with your buyers. I’m going to use etsy and paypal. This has worked well for me in the past because I don’t have to answer 50 million emails, esepcially since I am out of town up at the cabin –and then figure who ordered what first.

When it Rains it Pours….AGAIN!

And it’s raining again…for the 2nd time today….

In the mountains storms roll in fast…but stay long enough to drench everything in sight before moving on.

This photo was taken just a bit ago ---it interrupted some bush trimming ---Good for the bushes, but bad for our plans to get the yard in shape this weekend.  Rain coming down in SHEETS!

The lightning and thunder were so close I begged off of staying on the front porch to watch it rage….that was too close for comfort for me!  It was flashing and booming and VERY VERY close.  I felt safer in the basement.

This is some of what’s going on here: 

I’ve been sewing strips!

I’ve been cutting and making a complete mess at my cutting table!

And this may not look like much but ---

I’ve been digging through all the smaller scraps and short strips and cutting pairs of half-square triangles for this year’s Split 9 Patch Leader & Ender Challenge.  I need a whole variety of half-square triangles to make the blocks happen.  So I’m focusing on those right now until I have enough variety to start making the blocks themselves.  I've been using them as Leaders & Enders all weekend long so far, and what you see in the green basket are completed, pressed and de-dog-earred ones ready to roll!  The stack in front are those ready to be sewn as I need an ender.  They are piling up quite quickly!

Oh, and today’s funny:

This how you know the sports fan in the house is bored with all the rain and deeply depressed over last night's Boise State Loss to Washington. He has separated out the Boise State colors from the back-stock of m&ms.

Rain, Rain, Rain!

Yesterday was brought to you by the color BROWN!

The afternoon the sky opened up and just dumped itself all over our end of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

I mean…..it didn’t just rain…it was HOSING rain.  BUCKETS!  Cats & Dogs!

We have a large trash can on the side of the house, and it was full by the time the rain was done.

The Hubster wanted to go to town for some stuff, but when he got down the mountain, a guy stopped him and said the road was covered with water and it would be at least an hour or so before the run off slowed down and the road was crossable.

Where does the run off come from?

The creek that runs along the right side of the road, then crosses under the road through a culvert to the other side happens to be the direct path of water that flows over our water fall.

So instead of going to town, we went to the waterfall itself to see what was going on.

WOW!  It was running rampant and muddy brown….what a difference from when Mickey was here just a few weeks ago!

Needless to say, there was no going to town for me!  I stayed behind and sewed all day.  Isn’t that what Labor Day weekend is about?

And to go along with the muddy brown of the Buck Mountain Waterfall:

My summer favorite!  A creamy brown rootbeer float…while sewing at my creamy brown two toned 301A!

There will be more of the same going on today – in fact we had a huge sleep in.  I can’t believe it’s 10 am already as I am writing this, but then again, that’s what Labor Day weekends are for too, right?  Naps and Sleeping and Eating and Sewing and just BEING with no stress.  Bliss!

Tonight there is a gathering of neighbors down at the pavillion for a BBQ of “Bring your own dinner” --- we may do it.  I’d like to meet more folks from the area.  But then again, I do like my away-ness as well.
