Last Stitches In!

It's done!

I put the last stitches into my Goose Feathers quilt and it is done done done!

To be honest, I'm a bit over the aqua for a while.

Between this quilt, and the aqua in my hexie quilt and both quilts pushing for a finish - it's been an aqua overload.

I still love this color, and I'll come back to it, but let's take a break, shall we?

I keep my bindings narrow.

I love a tight, narrow binding.  I generally use 2'' strips, double-fold, sewn on with a 1/4'' seam.

It adds just a touch of color at the edge - as the red does here.

Sometimes I'll have my binding match the color of the border if I don't want the binding to make a statement, but this time I did.

I feel like it just needed that little pop of red at the edge.

As to the backing -

A few retreats back we had a gal bring yardage color coordinated in large bags, and it was sold by the pound.

I bought a bag of neutrals because it had all of this Moda spiderweb in it.

Spiders aren't just for Halloween!

There wasn't quite enough to make it work, but this other neutral piece was also in the bag - I've also used the second neutral for the hanging sleeve, so now BOTH lengths of yardage are out of the stash (already!) and I've got the backing trimmings to add into the Scrap User's System for future quilt tops.

It all plays a part!

Be looking for Goose Feathers to release early Fall.  We've got several other things in the line up before then.

And that's not the only finish on my radar -

Evah has been on a roll!

And I love her blue scrap stash - so pretty!

She started, pieced, and quilted this quilt in the 2 weeks since the String Rings pattern came out!

This girl has been on a roll!

I'd love to know what colors you envision your own String Rings quilt to be.  Are you working on it?

Yesterday was an out and about day for me.

After taking care of a couple things at the inn, I headed to Marion for my deep tissue massage.

WOW.  I think I found a gem who can really help me!

My appointment was at 11:30 - it's a 45 minute drive to get there.

I did some needed shopping when I was done...and headed home.  I was home by 4:30.  There was no machine time yesterday...I was too noodle-y!

However, Ollies (do you have an Ollies discount store near you?) was having their 4th of July 15% off EVERYTHING sale and I picked up this cat bed for Lola.

She is always burrowing under a quilt or blanket and I knew she would crawl right in and love it.  She does!  At 16 she is worth the pampering.

Feet up in my recliner, stitching on one of the last 3 large hexie motifs. This will be surrounded with.....MORE AQUA.

Today - YES. I'm doing the finishing up on what needs to be done graphic and step-out wise for our next Leader & Ender challenge.

I should have that ready to go soon.

And maybe I'll spend some time working on my Romania quilt. Ideas for borders are starting to gel.

What's up for your day today?  Do you have family coming in for the holiday weekend?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Never. Celery is just not something I crave!

And I also know I'm not the only type 2 diabetic out there.

What are some of your best tricks that keep you in line and make you feel like you're still treating yourself?

Have a terrific Thursday, everyone!

I learned in recent years, that with health issues that are affected by the foods I eat, I can no longer “treat” myself with food. I now view food just as nourishment for my body to keep working properly. My treats usually involve a trip to the thrift store for something special..usually shirts for my stash. Sometimes I’ll order a special fabric I’ve been eyeing, or a special gadget or ruler I’ve been wanting. Other times it’s a kitchen gadget. The last “treat” was a Ninja Creami. My husband and I love it! We can take healthy things like fruit and make ice cream that is delicious! If I do treat myself with food, it’s a trip to the Asian market the next town over to buy Japanese sweet potatoes.🤣

  2. Treats: pair almonds with your bites of chocolate. The protein/fat/fiber provides some balance. Last night at 5pm, I had my dark chocolate and 1/4c almonds for dinner :-) If you're a person who has dawn phenomenon, consume your carbs before 3pm and have a protein/veg final meal. It gives your body plenty of waking hours time to stabilize and wind down.

I too am a Type 2, for a treat I will have an Unreal Bar. They come in two flavors dark chocolate caramel peanut nougat bar or dark chocolate coconut minis at Costco. They have no artificial sugar. The peanut ones are 90 calories and11 carbs and the coconut ones are 70 calories and 8 carbs. My A1C is currently 5.7 with medication. I will have one of these when I need some sweets. For just a plain treat my go to is cashew nuts as the protein offsets the carbs. I buy the bars at Costco but they are sold through Amazon including other flavors.

  4. Love Goose Feathers but can understand why you are ready for another color. I am not diabetic but l have never craved celery either.
