Some days we just have to put it all out on the table, decide which is the most important and let other things slide off onto the next day's to-do list because...moment's like this only come around so often!
Rain in the forecast - but ladies wanted to sew before going to the quilt shops after lunch.
Could I get anyone to break away for a 45 minute nature hike? Just a quick 2 miler?
Don't let those grey clouds fool you!
It may have felt a BIT cooler, but that building up of humidity had us rethinking why we had showered, powdered, lotioned and potioned before going out.
Though we are not as muggy as these folks from SC/GA are used to, it's still a two-shower day.
Facts is facts!
We took our "first timer" (far left) all the way to the NC/VA state line and back!
How low are our water levels?
This lone kayaker is likely dragging his butt on the bottom.
I stopped on the bridge to zoom in on the dam...
NO water flowing over at all.
I've never seen a drought like this.
This worries me.
It should worry everyone.
We did get *A BIT* of rain last evening, but it isn't likely to make a dent. We really need some good and drenching *raining for days on end* kind of rain. We are about 20'' lower than normal for the year.
Back at retreat - things are coming together!
Lupine & Laughter is coming together on Patty's design wall.
Something with layer cakes and charm squares happening here.
Aren't these adorable?
It's called "Pushing Up Daisies" by Lella Boutique
We all loved how her iron matches that flower centers in this photo. LOL!
More sampler blocks have been added to this design wall.
And Hazel stole the show with her porch rail acrobatics while we were enjoying lunch. Such a funny girl.
After lunch I had barely an hour to pull some things together - I needed to leave at 2pm to go see the neuro-muscular guy in West Jefferson...so I dug through some smaller "lesser loved" pieces of yardage to find a backing for my sewing machine stitchery. (Yes, I know it needs a name and fast!)
I wanted something that would pull the back in to tie in the narrow black inner border and I think this will do it. It's a Hoffman I've had for a long while as I just didn't know what to do with it - it was a gift from a friend. This is the time to use it!
AND - as luck would have it -
I have a batting chunk that will work that I didn't have to piece.
Up on deck today - I need to stay-stitch around the outside edge to keep the seams from popping open during quilting (Victory Lap! YAY!) and then can load it and choose a quilting design.
The retreat ladies are heading back out to the OTHER quilt shop today - not suer when, but they've got a busy day ahead as well.
Hike today? Not sure. I don't think so. Forecast calls for more rain (No complaints!) but we'll see if it really follows through or not.
Any weekend plans on your end?
