Brookgreen PDF Pattern Gift-Away!

Who says Friday the 13th is a spooky no-good day?

I love Friday the 13th - and it's perfect for a new pattern release, and a Gift-Away to go with it!

Say hello to Brookgreen!

Simple shapes and easy piecing create a stunning repeat of pattern and secondary designs, inspired by photo taken of vintage tile floors white traveling.

Full color photos, Optional piecing methods, and directions to press for success!'

Brookgreen finishes at 80'' X 80'' but is easily customized by making fewer blocks for a smaller quilt, or more blocks for a bigger one.

Add to the length by simply adding more rows.

Border as desired!

I've taken so many photos of tile floors, walls ceilings everywhere I have traveled.

Tile designs are found everywhere, on walls, ceilings, and especially underfoot.

The hard part is getting people to move on so you can get photos of floors without the legs and feet of strangers in them....

Well dang!  Right in the middle!

And find yourself taking more photos of tile floor designs from entryways, pub and shop floors. There is so much quilty inspiration!

These photos that I have saved for inspiration have been calling me to finally “DO SOMETHING” with them.

I don’t know a single quilter who would not exclaim “Look! A Quilt Design!” when walking into a restaurant, pub, church or other public space where tile designs can be found under foot..

"Ordinary folks" may think nothing of these entryways and hallways, but I don't know a single quilter who would not feel just a bit giddy when walking across these floors!

Even more fun – these designs can easily be worked up in fabric, using simple shapes and units that we already know by name. Square, rectangle, diamond, triangle, and even more complex units such as square-in-a-square or flying geese.

I set out to interpret the design that became Brookgreen by digging into my burgeoning stash of scrap strips and squares, going for as much variety as I could within the color families of taupey caramel, deep rust to brown, springy grass green and neutral. (more white than beige.)

I found myself on a mission!

I started this quilt last fall, also surrounded by these same colors as the leaves began to change.  I love sewing WITH the seasons instead of ahead or behind them.

There are many half-square triangles in this quilt, all cut with my Essential Triangle Tool.

I talk about this a lot, and it is always worth mentioning - chain piecing is your friend, but do yourself a favor and cut your chains from behind your machine when they reach ironing board length.  It keeps things from getting tangled, and pulling on your chaining threads!

Variety is key!  I also use cookie sheets (that have never seen an oven) to lay things out, along with little baskets to keep other pieces sorted.

Many of my squares simply came from my pre-cut squares drawers - adding more variety cut from strips I keep on hand as needed.

I quilted Brookgreen with a sandy tan thread in an edge-to-edge design called Swirling Leaves by Jessica Schick. Swirling leaves were exactly what I was seeing around me!

And while it looks complicated, it's not!  Brookgreen is a ONE BLOCK quilt. And I've included pressing instructions so you won't be fighting seams or wondering which way to press.

And now that we are reaching spring, these are also the colors I see as the grass on the hillsides go from golden tan to verdant green.  Trees are getting their buds.  It won't be long now until spring leaves appear.

A dark rust print cut in 2’’ strips binds the edge in a double-fold 1/4'’ finish, keeping points intact at the quilt’s edge.
