This is what I woke up to this morning.
Actually, it was what I woke up to in the still wee small hours as Zoey jumped off the bed around 4am and I knew that if she didn't settle somewhere it was because she needed to go out.
So I padded down the stairs, turning on as little light as I could just to see my way so I don't bruise a hip on the kitchen island, turned right to go towards the back door by the laundry nook, turned on the outside light and. OH. MY.

Don't worry. We have warmer weather coming up. It should hit 37 today to get things melting. There is no snow in the forecast over the next several days so getting out of here Tuesday to get to the airport shouldn't be a problem.
But at this point January seems to be lasting forever.
A 4pm chiropractor appointment had me leaving the studio at 3pm so I could get home, change, grab hubster Dave and head to town. We had some errands to run after.
But during the studio time I did have I was able to stay stitch around the big yellow beast. (Not it's name..but I'm working on one! You have to try them out for a while before you find one that fits!)
And then I moved onto shifting big yellow backing blocks around until I found what I thought was a pleasing enough arrangement and began the assembly process.
I used up so much stuff in here!
For the new folks in the back - I often piece quilt tops and pieced backings in two halves - and then join the halves to complete the top/back.
It just makes it easier on less unwieldy than watching it grow row by row and get heavier and heavier.
Tada!
The quilt top is 90''. This is 96''. It's not quite enough to allow for margins when long arming so I will be adding a bit more to one side, and I'm putting on a fake header at the top - neither of which will be quilted into the quilt, they just give me a bit more wiggle room to keep the top on the backing.
All will be trimmed off when the quilt is done.
I'm thinking of some sort of Baptist Fan panto at this point. Soft yellow thread. Something to add a fairly traditional texture.
I'm ready to start tackling that today!
How about you? What's up for your weekend?

ReplyDeleteCelebrations continue today for my Birthday month. The family was busy on the date I was born. Glad we don't have any white stuff. Stay safe. Maybe some Quilting tonight. Quilt Show entries need to be ffinished for the forms to be filled out by February 1st.
ReplyDeleteBonnie how about “I Call It Mellow Yellow” for a quilt name. I love your backings as much as the top.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing your morning post and your expected reaction to what you woke up to once again in January, I think the quilt should be called "The Yellow Snow." As in what you shouldn't eat. LOL!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see this quilt I think, SUNSHINE. It is so warm and welcoming, just like the sun that we all look forward to after a long cold winter. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteMy weekend will be spent putting together more of the mystery quilt blocks, sewing an overflowing box of 1-1/2" squares into four patches, and some hand quilting done on Carolina Christmas - nice variety!
