More Yellow, Please!

The building of the Screaming Yellow Backing Blocks continues -

I need 36 and am more than halfway there at this point.

The process is so fun and relatively mindless. I only have a couple of rules for myself -

1. Keep strips no narrower than 2'' at the edge of any block - we don't want seams gagging up on other seams.

2. Press things open where you can to minimize bulk.

3.  Don't try to be too matchy-matchy.  Throw in some whimsey and fun and things that otherwise just "would not go"

4. Find ways to use the shorter off-cuts from trimming one block in another block.

Optimum goal: Use any piece until it is complete gone with no more left to put back in the bin!

I'm using my biggest Olfa Frosted ruler so my blocks are trimmed at 16 1/2''.  It's a great size.

And even though all of this fabric is completely unrelated - it works!

Here's a sample layout with 16 blocks - when I finish the other "plain" blocks without X-Plus blocks in them the X0Plus blocks will be scattered apart a bit more.

I'm having fun with it without having to think too hard and I think that's what I needed right now.

Tula got a Get Well Soon card from Lucky 2.0 and Janie! HA!

And yes, Tula is getting the good treats.  She loves Churus, but prefers we squeeze the whole tube onto a dish for her to lick up. She gets one after every round of meds.

I wish I could say the eye was even looking better, but honestly it's a bout the same.  We keep up with the meds schedule.

She also received a 2-week antibiotic on our first visit and Hubster Dave will be taking her in while I'm in Morocco for her second.

That 2-week shot is the same routine we did while trying to beat her osteomyelitis.

She did beat that. I'm hoping she can beat this too.

And those asking after Flash. He's still around, knows when I'm there it's time to be fed. I can't tell if he is missing Tula or not, but he won't miss a meal.  He still stays 6 feet away, ready to bolt if I make a fast move. Still very feral.

We did a thing.

My stitching corner is close to a sliding glass door - the cabin is mostly glass on two side which is great when the temps are fine, but in the cold cold cold, it gets chilly to sit here and stitch.

We had an old pole in the garage, and Hubster to the rescue - he 3-D printed the hooks to hold the pole.

I hung my Monkey Business over one section of glass wall, leaving the door free to slide open.

It makes things a bit shady in the daylight, but at night when I sit and stitch it creates a bit of a buffer from the window cold.

I've also had requests to share what's on my stitching station - and really, it's not fancy!

It's a wooden tv tray.  It holds my sewing basket my hexie fabrics are in the hexagon tin, the border I'm working on is folded on top of the hexie tin.

I've got a heavy glass divided relish dish holding needed tools,  a couple of 3D printed reject box bottoms hold hand/foot lotions and my eye glasses cleaning cloth.

My mug is sitting on top of an antique Dutch tile that I brought back from the Netherlands years ago. It makes a great trivet!

You can see the wicker laundry basket holding my hexagon quilt in progress close by.

And the ever present box of Kleenex. One in every room. Kind of like ChapStick. And seam rippers.

This photo was taken before we hung the quilt so you can see that cold window just past the couch!

Can't wait for this to get here!

Just one of the items from the Quiltville Zazzle Store that Forest Jane has added with our Lupine & Laughter Logos!

I like a big mug and this one is 15 oz. It's gorgeous!  She does such a great job and the proceeds help her purchase the supplies she needs for the sewing classes she is teaching at her local library to those in need.

You can view the smaller mug HERE.

And you can always add our logo to t shirts, bags, hats, keychains, anything!

Start on the inside, and the outside will take care of itself!

At this age there is very little I can do for the outside, so I'll keep working on the inside where it counts!

Have a terrific Thursday, everyone!

I can relate to the hanging the quilt over a cold window. My son hung his HS grad quilt over the sliding glass door in his first apartment and of course the sun faded it royally so I made him another! I love your yellows, and the pieced backing. Happy stitching to you and have a wonderful trip. Dawne

  2. We have cold glass expanses too so hubby tacked little brads around the window/door trim and I cut/sewed fleece with buttonholes to fit. Now in the coldest of winter I hang the fleece on the brads and button us in for the night. By day I fold the fleece back and clip it, or roll it up and clip it at the top. I used white fleece (from JoAnn, RIP) so if I have to leave the fleece on by day on the coldest days, light still comes in but cold air doesn't. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do when winter takes a swing atcha!

I came upon a cold window trick I just had to try and it works: bubble wrap! cut the bubble wrap to fit the glass, spray the glass lightly with water and press the wrap onto the glass. It works for me. Ellen T.

I love the backing for the x plus quilt--maybe more than the front, lol. Have you named this quilt yet? --Sue
