For months (or what seems like months) I've had random piles of fabric on my home sewing room cutting table.
It's just another flat surface where anything dealing with sewing room stuff tends to land.
In this case, it was Fat Quarters and larger scrap pieces intended for filing in my fat quarter bins at home.
Yes - my fat quarter storage is at home because I need SOMETHING to pull from at home when not sewing at the QPO, and there is no room for this rack at the QPO.
I can however, grab what color box of FQs I need and transport them back and forth. That part is easy.
Until it comes to putting returned FQs back in their bins.
I've been calling my mom to check in on her, but she is kind of old school. If she hears me doing anything as I call her hands-free, she says "Do you want to call me back when you're not busy?"
She is the one who taught me to never be idle!
So I have to do quiet things. No washing dishes or dinner prep with kitchen noise.
But I can fold Fat Quarters! (Much more appealing than folding laundry!)
It has, however, been two days since that phone call and the FQs are still folded and color sorted and still sitting on my cutting table.
I'll put them in their perspective color bins with the next phone call.
AND. I seem to have brought the Spring Cleaning Bug to the QPO yesterday. Not a machine stitch was sewn.
Since I had gone through those pre-cut rectangles the day before, that opened the door to organizing the rest of the precut squares.
This time I placed each stack by size in zip-lock bags to keep the edges from getting thready and keeping the squares from migrating from one size to another.
Then there was a basket - I went through that too. And another bin. I went through that too.
I made four big scrap bags and placed them in the "Free Basket" in the dining room at Quiltville Inn where I hope they will be adopted and used by incoming quilters!
(That felt good!)
Realizing I had 45 minutes left on the clock before needing to leave for a chiropractor appointment, I dug into the neutrals string bin to cut myself some more squares to increase the variety in my hexie making tin.

Quiltville Quote of the Day -
If not now, when?

Thank you for all you do ! I can’t put in to words how much I appreciate you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Bonnie for being such a source of inspiration! Would you kindly share any info about what looks like a white plastic seam guide in the picture above? Thanks so much, Pam
ReplyDeleteSpring weather in the PNW. No Spring cleaning other than putting Christmas away still. I need a scrap taming day. What day of the week is that? Wish I could come Retreat in February, it's DHs Birthday Month so not good for me to leave that week. Love that you have Fat Quarters sorted by color in bins at home. Happy Hump Day!
ReplyDeleteI did all the organizing last year, thankfully - I'm up to 42 shoeboxes for various sized precuts (.5 up to 4.5" sqs, bit coins, rect 2.5 x 3.5, 2.5 x 5, and many for precuts made to make blocks for scrappy quilts). The charm squares take up all the shelves on an Ikea cabinet, sorted by color. I love being able to pull a box out to make a quilt without having to cut up or press anything. But I still get ideas from you just about every blog post - thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI usually kept my hands busy during phone calls too. When we had a landline, all the light-switch cover plates and the door frames within range of the handset's coiling tether were cleaner than anywhere else in the house.

Well I guess we really are on the same wave length!! I am attempting to do the same. THough mine is far worse than that. Hopefully I can see my floor again soon. Happy stitching!! :-)
