I spent the weekend quilting away - just like you knew I would.
I'm not sure why the push to get this done and dusted and the binding put on felt like such a "Must Do" but all I can think is that we can only take care of the things that are within our own grasp at the moment, and I grasped on to this.
I could make a difference with this. At least to these random scraps I could!
And I thought I had a brilliant idea for coming up with a name -
After all, with our mysteries we are a fan of paint chips, no?
Hubster needed to stop at Lowes and so I wandered back over to the paint chip area thinking that I MIGHT find a creative inspiration for a name on one of these yellow toned little cards.
There were shades named:
Afternoon
Pollen Powder (Achhoooo!??)
Banana Cream. (I really have an aversion to naming quilts after food. I just don't like to.)
Daffodil
Optimistic Yellow
Lily
Cheerful
Rayo Del Sol (Good name for a Mexican Restaurant?)
Golden Plumeria
Solaria
Butter Up (LOL!)
And my favorite of all:
Peach Tickle. Hahahahaha!
Let's just say that the paint chip as a name idea was a no-go.
So I gave that idea up and continued to quilt.
I chose a soft yellow thread (Maybe we can call IT Butter Up?) and an edge-to-edge design called Random Clams by Jessica Schick for the quilting.
Best news of all - NO BROKEN NEEDLES (I worried about that with all of the seams front and back) and I had no quilting machine problems. Whew!

I'm binding with a yellow on yellow stripe - I had a piece just big enough in the yardage stash.
So last evening I was feet up with thimble on and started stitching it down.
First mitered corner! Looking good!
And if you once again read the title of this post, I did come up with a name.
I'm calling it Sunnyside.
Kind of like Sunny Side Up.
Or on the Sunny Side of the Street.
Sunnyside it is, because that's what this quilt looks and feels like to me with that wonderful yellow.
On the Tula side of things. She's not doing that much better, I'm afraid. I need to call the vet today.
I leave tomorrow for Morocco, so Hubster Dave will be taking her in to be seen this week.
He will be administering meds and taking care of her while I'm gone.
I did catch this zoomed in photo of Flash after putting his breakfast down.
Still living by the 6 feet away rule, and always on alert for movements that are too close, too fast - and he bolts. It is what it is.
And I can't wait for non-freezing temps so I can clean off the mud frozen to the porch floor.
And since it is Monday - we've got a bit of Gift-Awaying to do!
I'm drawing for 2 winners who will each receive a Stardust PDF pattern from me and a Facets of Blue color roll from our friends at Cotton to Quilts!

Time is precious. Make an effort to make even the smallest of differences in making this world a better place for everyone to live.
Lots of thoughts on this Martin Luther King holiday.
Find something to be grateful for today -

Your quilt name give me a sense of warmth when it feels like 1 degree where I am!
ReplyDeleteThe quilting pattern is perfect and the quilt certainly looks like it could be reversible😀.
Safe and smooth travels to you.
You should share the story behind the song “Stay on the Sunny Side.” It is really touching and inspiring.
ReplyDeleteIt must be a sign of the times and my anxiety level but when I looked at the picture of the paint chips, I read the upper right hand chip as "Peace Talks". I then clicked the picture and got a clearer view and it is in fact Peach Tickle, Bonnie's favorite name. I suspect we would both like my mis-reading more.
ReplyDeleteAs a person who doesn’t love yellow, I found your Sunnyside quilt uplifting this morning. Even though I live in SoCal where it will be close to 80 today, the world seems so dark. Thank you for this ray of sunshine.
ReplyDeleteRandi
Thank you so much for not going with Golden Plumeria. hahahaha
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to read that the eye isn't resolving like you would like and that's especially hard when we are leaving them for a while. My kitties are sending purrayers for an outcome that will allow her to be healthy. It may limit her option of being an outdoor cat though.
ReplyDeleteI love to read about your thought process when it comes to naming your quilts and seeing your quilting your design close up.
Safe travels!
We have a one eyed cat outdoors and she does just fine!
DeleteI love the quilt. But I’m worried about Tula. You’ve done an amazing job with her. Hope Dave can do as well
ReplyDeleteThank you Bonnie for this ray of sunshine and to remind to always be kind.
ReplyDeleteI love the way your quilt turned out to be double sided! And Sunny Side Up is the perfect name for it.
ReplyDeleteI'M sorry that kitties eye is still looking bad. I have a cat with one eye. She doesn't
ReplyDeleteeven know it and is a great hunter. She got into a fight before we got her. She is the best kitty I have ever had and the eye doesn't seem to be an issue for her.
I hope you don't have to go that route but it will work out fine in the end if you do. Good luck.
I like the name for the yellow quilt. It makes me smile.
I love the binding choice. I have/had that same fabric. Also had it in pink on pink and lime green on green. Mostly small strips and scraps are all that’s left. I got them all at Joann Fabrics years ago. (So sad it went out of business.) Wish I had more of those fabrics. Sue
ReplyDeleteIf this lovely quilt lived at my house the back is the side that would be showing ! Perfect for a gloomy January day.
ReplyDeleteLove the name! Love the binding choice! Love all the fun yellows! This one is definitely another Bonnie Hunter Winner!
ReplyDeleteWe had a cat who had to have an eye removed and she barely seemed to notice. She certainly felt better after then she did before. I always feel so bad for sick or injured kitties. She's lucky to have you to care!
